We are experiencing this down in south Louisiana, with The Times Picayune in New Orleans. After 175 years of publishing a daily paper, they are now going to 3 days a week, concentrating on their Nola.com website, instead. I am aware that a few friends are losing their jobs or being cut back dramatically.

The publisher for The Advocate, Doug Manship, here in Baton Rouge, came out with a statement right away, stating that their family had NO intention of cutting back on the production of it's daily newspaper. Thank gawd!!!  I am of the generation that grew up with reading the daily newspaper. I looked forward to Sunday's paper & the tiny pleasure of coffee &  reading it cover to cover. Something about the smell &  feel & print ink all over me, speaks to traditions. I am also a hold out for reading a hard copy of a book. It's that "touchy, feely (sp?) thing about me.

I pay for content by subscribing to our home town newspaper. As of yet, I have not or will not, pay for content with NYT or Washington Post, etc. It's funny that Buffett has changed his stance. But then, that's why he is The Oracle. He can do what he wants. I will still be subscribing to my local paper.

Jack is an extremely talented writer, errrr, dictator in this case. Mr. D is the talented typist :-)

You know I love JB, so this was a real treat to read. ....however, I love YOU to the moon & back. That said, "Happy...happy birthday, Top Chef !!" You are one in a gazillion. And, let JB have at least one cupcake. xoxo

DanGordon Yipppeee....that's what I wanted to hear...your website traffic during & after promo. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you stated. I've read the comments women leave under one of pins....yeppers, they want to show it to their significant other, boyfriend, etc., because, like me, it WOW's them. They repin to their particular board and start "following" all of your pins. Happiness....

Glad that I "pulled you into the convo"...are you subscribed to ginidietrich blog???? I hope you will be now. Thanks, Dan, for your comments here.

ginidietrich You already know that I'm a Pinterest addict!!! When I found it last year, I went bananas!! I'm visual and it definitely appealed to me and my creative side. What I've found is that I will see something that "grabs" me & then click through to see if the there is a website or blog that will either explain more, show tutorials or where I might purchase an item. I have an entire board devoted to "paint chips"....wall colors that I love and save. I'm certain that Benjamin Moore or Valspar don't have a clue that I will be buying their product as a direct result of pins via other folks out in the universe. (that sentence was entirely too long.) I also love the "quietness" of pinning,...not like FB, thank goodness. I see a great advantage for folks that are "selling" whatever, to pin it to a board. I have found wonderful artisans there....and lots of them link back to etsy or their personal blog/website. Yippeee...then I spend more time looking through all of their designs, etc.

When I first saw dangordon pinning jewelry, I smiled really big & thought, yeh, great idea, Dan.

Heck, Danny Brown even has a Pinterst button on his blog, another plus, as I see it.

And speaking of other sites, has anyone here been to Houzz.com. Similar idea but wowza...great interactions between professional architects, landscape architects, interior designers...yada....yada...yada. Check it out & let me know what you think.

I see the value in both of these, however, since we are discussing Pinterest, I LOVE it!!! I have nothing to gain monetarily , but I sure have & will buy products because of this platform.

One of my favorite people that follow & comment here on SS. It's really nice to know he really does have a heart (sounds like a movie character) that's BIG & mushy...*sigh*

He's smart, funny, and opinionated. I'm always scanning the comments to see what "The Chief Alien's " has to say about your topic and others comments. I'm a BIG fan. Thanks ginidietrich for adding more insight into "da man!"

Howie Goldfarb ...you #ROCK !!!

PJProductivity Exactly !! Talking about it, is a start. We need to have conversations around depression & suicide. btw, this is National Suicide Prevention Awareness week.

FrankDickinson Amen, Frank. Depression is a bitch. I've been there...in that deep, dark hole. I've fought it off & on , for the last 30+ years..and oh yes, debilitating anxiety, enough so, that I don't want to go anywhere. It takes a lot to ask for help...it takes courage. It also takes courage to kill yourself. I know because I've been working (volunteer) for 15+ years in suicide prevention & intervention field and for the last 4 years w/ loved ones left behind to grieve after suicide (post=vention). I could go on about this for hours, but won't.

Thanks, ginidietrich for writing from your heart. People generally have no idea what to say in times like this. Shock, guilt, anger.....yep, hindsight...looking back why didn't I see this?! We are busy living life....our minds aren't scanning blogs or tweets or conversations for signs of suicide & depression. It's just the truth.

From what I understand, Trey was getting help, lots of it. I'm certain this counselors are asking themselves today, "what more could I have done?"

My prayers are with his children, and his family, as they will have a long and difficult grief journey. Suicide grief is very complicated. Stigmas abound!! I hope folks stick around long enough to help his family walk that path.

I feel certain that Trey is with our heavenly Father....with the angels, Frank.

God Bless all who knew him on a much deeper level, IRL. I only knew him from his 'tweets'...

Hugging the ones I love today & everyday....as you know, ginidietrich , I lost my youngest sister to suicide on 12/2/07...she was 54 years young.

I love you, Gini. ((((HUGS)))) from afar.
