The attitude of the character (main) is why I don't like or read this series. It may make for mayhem, but the self-centeredness means I just don't care about the character.
I love the covers. They don't seem too romance-like to me. I nearly bought the first book based on the cover, but then I read the first 6 chapters or so. Just didn't float my boat.

I'm on the fence on this one. If you found it grim in places, I might be unable to read it. Grim is a lot like humor. Everyone sees it differently.

Demon Hunter and Baby -- by Anna Elliot Ugliest cover I've ever seen on a FABULOUS urban fantasy--this book has it all--intrigue, great pacing, fabulous characters, a possible romance. It was awesome.
Can I nominate two?
Benedict Jacka: Fated, Cursed and Taken -- these books were so good the publisher took all three and published them in the same year (I really don't know the history, but I have read all of them and they are quite possibly the best new UF series I've read in years.) If I had to choose between this series and Demon Hunter, there is only one reason this would get an edge (and I won't reveal that reason to avoid spoilers.) The characters in this book are fascinating, unique and awesome. So is the magic/rules. These are must-reads.
There's so much you can do with a dragon--these covers really are just kind meh. And I hate the POV of the villain especially given BEFORE the hero knows it. Great review as usual.
Nice! Stainless steel bottles would look nice as well.

Call me shallow but bringing Anita Blake into the description totally put me off. What? It's going to be a series that degrades into ... plots that are an excuse to have more and more outrageous sex scenes? "'Cause if that isn't what you meant, you really shouldn't put a reference to that series in your description. So I dunno. I left it off my TBR just on that description. But it sounds like other than a couple of missteps it might be a good read. I dunno.
