This is an interesting topic Melanie - there is definitely two schools of thought for me when we are talking about objects like art, interior design and natural landscapes or when we talk about physical appearance and body image.
Design: I dont think there is any problem with wanting to surround yourself with the prettiest visuals. Though, I tend to be on the train of less is more - for example the power of white space.
Body image: I am a little worried about or society and our obsession with body image. The problem is evolving... Im worried for my kids. Once upon a time kids just needed to deal with being called ugly in school, then mass media came out where magazines and TV told you what was pretty. Now - kids are polling the internet to see if people find them pretty. I don't think people realize the internet is filled with "trolls".http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=am+i+beautiful+or+ugly&oq=am+i+beautiful+or+ugly&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=youtube-psuggest.3...0l0l0l3691l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0.

@Lori @JMattHicks Nice post. I liked the concept of Livefyre from the beginning. I think I saw it first on @dannybrown 's blog or maybe it was @ginidietrich. I can't remember now.
Loved the concept right away. Also, wow @Lori you have a lot of pts, what do you win?!?
My latest conversation: Are You Really Prepared?
@Lori The only way is to set rules for yourself like the TV, but I can't do it - I like having even my phone beside me (the worst!)

Great tips Lori, I definitely am having trouble with this on occasions. I know technology plays a role in it - the question is, Can I change the behaviour? I don't think I can... at least, not anytime soon in this hyper-connected world.

Very interesting Melanie - there are definitely different types of smiles. The deep inner ones you are speaking about, I think for the most part only family and close friends can elicit that much of a natural smile. Then it ranges from watching standup comedy to fake for the awkward group picture.
PS love the comment below!

ginidietrich Very good points Gini.
I instantly thought of all girl's wings in dorms, all girl highschools or all girl gyms. Which I don't think any are necessarily a bad idea. But as for the all girl wings in a hotel, I don't think I would sell it like that. The way I would go about offering "more value" to a female segment would offering packages called something like "Pampered Plus" - with higher threadcount sheets, Godiva chocolates, flowers, etc
But that would basically be like a penthouse or a suite, except it could be set in any room.
Interesting though

MelanieAThompBryan Thompson Hey Melanie, My number one recommendation would be Social Media ROI by Olivier Blanchard. Have you read it?
My latest conversation: Are You Really Prepared?
MelanieAThompBryan Thompson Audiobooks hmm. I am liking that idea. I am going to be honest, I get very little enjoyment out of reading fiction. I much prefer to read something that will help me to my job or learn a new skill.
If I have the option however, I would watch a demonstrative video instead. Great book out there? A movie will likely come out. Horrible I know.
Maybe one day that will change!

Lori Time travelling back, I may have tried a journal but I would never of kept it up. I know I wouldn't, just who I am - just not meant to have one.
A couple days ago Id argue that I didn't need one but I have recently been reading up on some psychology principals of the human mind. Basically, how we aren't as smart as we think we are. It would be interesting to see the disparity between the journal and my confabulations of what I think happened in my life.
My latest conversation: Are You Really Prepared?
I might have a little bit of confirmation bias here, based off a few comments I see below . I never had a journal growing up. I wonder if it is some reflection of gender and reflection of society . I am trying to figure out if more females write in journals/diaries compared to men. If so, is it because men have difficulty expressing their feelings - even to themselves? Or does it mean we simply don't reflect on our emotions because we are raised to bury feelings of sadness, anxiety, etc.

Congrats Lori! It has been quite the journey! What an accomplishment to publish a book, self-publish at that!
Time for some Champaign! Glad I could see the progress throughout the whole process.
Proud of you,
Bryan

Hey Lori,
Congrats on taking the leap! I just signed up for the advanced notice list - I'm excited to see all the excitement on launch day :)
I particularly like your topic. Very self reflective - look into myself and ask me what is stopping me from getting what I want? Most people blame money, lack of time, etc - I think it is often the fear of failure.
I won't lie, I have felt that on numerous occasions. As far as what I want, maybe one day run my own business. Why am I not in a rush to jump into it now? Because I am very contempt with how much I am learning with my current employer.

Lori I actually don't think think I would want another job, I am seriously happy where I am at!

Hey Lori, Congrats! I'm really excited to get the book out there - its been quite the journey! See you tomorrow!!
As far as twisted or straight journey through life. So far, I find it has been quite straight - well crooked but unexpectedly good as far as work goes. I always thought I'd work for a marketing agency. I never thought I would be in the IT sector - I love it though!

I know the feeling of taking 150+ pictures to get one that you want. I had to do that for my current avatar but I feel like it is outdated or I am bored with it. I don't know! First impressions are lasting. Online:Think of the blogs you travel to, how many have you simply left because it was designed poorly. I know I have left many.
Offline: I feel we try to fill in the gaps about people with the information we have about them (plus our experiences with similar people). So if you have only met someone for 5 minutes, that is all they know about you. I'd make it count!

johncharlesowens Very interesting!
I am usually hungover on Sundays, does that count? I'm just kidding - I'm really not. That is great idea Lori. You can get a serious case of 'Glossy Eyed Social Media Syndrome' pretty quick. Not realizing who's blog you are even on, forget to eat... It is good to unplug.
I've actually gotten away from social media for the most part, my issue is that I want to be more proactive on it.
Lori I do forsure! I also think you can have multiple at once. Many things can get you out of bed in the morning, including a dog whining to go to the washroom! Just kidding!
Hey Lori,
Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed being off the grid - we're all glad to have you back :)
I know in the future I want to give my kids the same opportunity my parents worked very hard to give me. Since I don't have children, right now - I'd say my job. I guess some people work to live and others live to work!
Im not quite sure I have it all figured out yet, I think that's a good thing!
