The iPad version is completely unreadable, and on my computer it's just a mess. The design was fine before.

While I completely agree, I'd suggest looking at it the other way. Read the history of presidential elections (Jackson-Adams or Hayes-Tilden, or any of the FDR campaigns) and campaign lies and slander today is very mild. Read about elections in other countries in 2012 and be glad no one dies when America holds elections. Look back in your own lifetime, whatever your political persuasion, and there is at least one president (if not half a dozen) that you think didn't deserve to hold the office.
And yet the republic survived, and will continue to do so Nov 7th, either way.
