I mentioned this in another post but why is First Take on for 2 hrs. then repeated and then they have " A Best of First Take"? I think your answer is right there. I agree with Keena30 about re-airing games. SportsCenter isn't needed as much anymore. You could have SportsCenter from 5am-8am, then maybe, maybe, a noon show if there is any developments and then the traditional 6pm show and 11pm show.

Thats going to be one long pregame show. 4 hrs. long? Thats way too long. Plus, you have NFLNetwork's pregame show, ESPN Countdown, then The NFL Today and FOX NFL Sunday. That's a lot of pregame stuff. Even if CBSSports Network wanted to get into the NFL programming and needed inventory, I think a 1 hr. pregame show would be enough.

I've said it before and I will say it again, why doesn't FOX have announce teams? I mean with the exception of Buck/McCarver, they really do not have any announcing duos. I'm somewhat surprised. Plus, when are they going to go back to the MLB on FOX theme? Geez, I'm so sick of the NFL theme being heard during baseball broadcasts.

Also, I think the fact that they have First Take and then replay First Take and then sometimes have a Best of First Take says it all. For what? Maybe, they should replay a game that they have from the night before. I mean whats the point of having SportsCenter on all day? They have it on all day and still don't give you all the highlights.
It's not necessary to have SportsCenter on all day. How much can you watch of SportsCenter a day? To be fair, I did have to watch SportsCenter this morning to get the score of the Mets game but once I got it, I didn't stick around.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on How worried should ESPN be about declining ratings?
Surprised about the NHL Hall of Fame wasnt on NHL Network. I don't want to bash hockey but hockey is a tough draw. I think as far as drawing and popularity goes its NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL.
I've also heard from some people that NBATV isn't really that great. I think that the NHL should have original programming like documentaries. The NHL has a long, great history that they should capitalize on.

I think the reason why Highlight Express failed was because its associated too much with SportsCenter. I think people said "Highlight Express is going to be just like SportsCenter" or "We've seen how ESPN does highlights, forget this." Guilty by association.
I think highlight shows work if the highlights are for the right reasons. Give highlights to the sports that need it. Like right now, focus on baseball. There enough games to show. You don't need a 10 minute Lebron story when you could and should show baseball or any major story. And when I mean major, I'm not talking about Tebow, Lebron, A-Rod, The Miami Heat or anything else.
5 months ago on Do we really want an old school highlights show?
Should also point out, and I think this is the thinking with MTV, ESPN, Game Show Network, Soap Operas etc. that whatever worked in the past will not work in the present.
MTV, ESPN made a fortune in the 80s because of showing videos and sports highlights. It almost like the formula that made all these networks popular wouldnt work today, which is absolute nonsense.
I also think the people that are in charge now dont want to acknowledge the past. They want to put THERE stamp on things, THERE ideas on things. They want to mold and shape things THERE way and forget about how it was in the past even though it was successful.
The Sunday Conversation has been a segment on SportsCenter for forever, so I dont have a problem with that. From what I remember the 50 states in 50 days thing wasnt that bad either. It was pretty interesting.
I will say I was thinking the samething about the Lebron feature. I dont even know what was the point of it. It didnt talk about anything. I really didnt understand it. I guess they've replaced Tebow talk with Lebron James. Oh great. The summer hasn't even begun yet.
You know if this is 30 yrs. ago, I could understand ESPNs logic of televising everything. Getting there name out there, knowing what ESPN is or going to be but not in 2013. ESPN doesnt need any of these sports that there going after. There ESPN. There well established that there name alone I would think would sell an advertiser or consumer.

This might not have anything to do with it but one thing I found kind of irritating is that what's up with the announce crews? I mean does FOX even have them anymore? I think FOX needs a baseball overhaul.
They have no pregame show thats there own. There piggy backing off of MLB Network.
Besides the polarizing Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, who are FOX's baseball announcers. They seem to get local guys for the coverage but to me all FOX is doing is borrowing from local announcers. There local announcers not FOX announcers
And finally, the music. MLB on FOX theme was a great theme. Why change it to the FOX NFL theme, I'll never know. Everytime I hear the nfl theme, I think of football, not baseball.
5 months, 1 week ago on Why are MLB on Fox ratings tanking?
@Big Bob Marley I dont think Turner Sports loses the NBA. Isn't Turner Sports highly praised for there work that they do with the NBA? I don't think they'd want to lose that. I do agree about CBS/CBS Sports Net. CBS Sports Net needs inventory but I don't know where CBS would fit into there schedule considering they have NFL, SEC, College Basketball and Golf.

@fangsbites @crippenstation @Giantsfan1982 Thats a good point Ken, but its all about what network can provide the most for the NBA. I mean ABC covers it like crazy but if NBC or NBCSN or even FOX guaranteed that they would cover the NBA even more with more exposure, dont be surprised if FOX would get it.
I remember those days of when MTV played just music. See its no different now. In the coming years, ESPNEWS will be ESPN 4 or ESPN may create 5 more ESPNs.
Lets not even start about ESPN Classic. You mean to tell me with there vast library of shows and events, ESPN cant fill time for ESPN Classic? Really?
See the problem with ESPN is that they created too many channels and watered down the ones they had. You had ESPN, then ESPN2. Now, you have ESPN3, watchESPN, ESPN Classic, ESPNEWS. Its not necessary. If your having trouble with one channel, why do you create more? The very fact that they replay First Take after it airs and then airs sometimes a Best of First Take says it all.
5 months, 2 weeks ago on What's in the future of ESPNEWS?
You know I'm not even a big hockey fan but I watched it and I thought it was an excellent game. But here's the bigger question. Do any of these people work? What would they be doing watching Leno at 11:35 and/or Fallon an hour later? They must not sleep much if they have jobs.

I wasnt that big of a fan of his tv persona but it seems like he was a different person in that interview with awful announcing.
Much respect, though, to a guy who loves sports for the right reasons. Not for the money or the noterity but because he LOVES it.

I dont know about this. How much more money can you squeeze out of people? You have PPVs, you have Sunday Ticket, MLBtv etc. Eventually, people just dont have the money and they cant pay for a youtube channel.
Thats just my opinion although if you like UFC or TNA Wrestling then to pay for a youtube channel is your choice.

I think NBC should be a little higher on the list. I think NBCSN needs a ratings boost and lets face it, NBC is such in dire straits, you might as well air sports in primetime. I think NBC and maybe even CBS would do well with the NBA. Turner is a lifetime partner of the NBA so that makes sense and I just think NBC would need the NBA considering the fact that a lot of the contracts for the major sports are not available.

I was shocked to hear that Pat Summerall passed away. He was the NFL on Sundays iwth Tom Brookshier and later John Madden. His voice was a soothing voice and when you listened to him you knew you were watching an event. With Pat, it was about whatever he was announcing, not Pat.
That old guard is slipping away. Jack Whitaker, Curt Gowdy, Ray Scott, Jack Buck and now Pat Summerall. RIP Pat. Sundays havent been the same without you. You will be missed and one more thing...thank you.
