Fuck anyone that frowns on 500hp, RWD and 2-way $3500 competition coils with exposed external canisters while nitpicking demo stickers, demo tires and fucking stupid shit like steering wheel hubs and the way the rear diffuser was mounted. Finding a clean, low-mileage turbo chassis is a chore, but if you can make this from it, it's totally worth finding. Every time I see one of these I think back to the ultimate street car challenges from Sport Compact Car and how there was a guy that kept building and re-building an MR-2 that would almost always win but break at the end. It's been years since I've read the articles, but that has always put a nugget in my mind about the potential of these cars. Very nicely done.

More time attack coverage the better. It's starting to feel like time attack is kinda bouncing back here in the US after the debacle that was Redline Time Attack in 2011. Though the big-name tuner houses in the US aren't in the mix as much either, there's an increasing amount of grassroots support and with the addition of an East and West GTA series it should become even more popular.


Great post as always Dino, I too look forward to this event as well. Have plans on attending more Battle Evome events later in the year?

@marsh5 I'm in the process of doing the same thing, I was told to just drill a hole through the floor and use a 3/8" grade-8 bolt and some washers to install it. There's a video for the targa car build that shows exactly where you should be drilling.

@MariusEngenSkinnes In the US K-Sport is seen as a knock-off JDM brand by some. Good to know that in Europe they carry TÜV approval. I don't think they advertise that fact over here.

@Chris @LukeEVOVIII Alternatives to karting: NASA HPDE days, SCCA HPDE days, SCCA auto-cross. SCCA rally-cross, or any number of other track day organizations like Shift Sector, or Global Time Attack, etc. The two largest/most well-known organizations are NASA and SCCA in the US.


You can also look up regions and dates of the various sanctioning bodies and see when and where events are being held, or you can go to your local track's website and see who is hosting what, when and go from there.


Just start with the desire and research it from there.

@Mike Garrett @QuocAnNguyen Time Attack in general has always ran some sort of DOT-approved tire, never slicks. In the US (Global Time Attack especially) classes are largely split up by their tire tread wear ratings. The lower the rating, the stickier the tire, the higher the class.

@Big Pooky Evo's carry over 60% of their weight on the front, shedding heat in the rears isn't really a priority when the fronts do a majority of the work. It could also be that only the fronts have been upgraded so far.

I think it was Motor Trend that had an editorial piece a few years back praising the virtues of feeling engaged while driving by using all four points. The four points of course being both feet and both hands. Though certainly blip-shifting through a dual-clutch PDK box is faster, it just doesn't seem as engaging. But that's the way of progress. If Porsche wants to compete with other supercars and build a continually faster and more capable vehicle, then that magical PDK is a large piece of the puzzle. 


I still prefer to row my own gears the traditional way though.

@ToyotaSupraMan They have a couple of "grooves" in the tread, so they're not completely slicks, thus "street legal" or DOT-approved. Yeah, taking the rules and bending them veeeeeeeeeeeeery far.

Current GTR record is 7.80 at 182 set by ETS/English Racing in August at the Buschur Shootout, but that was on *I believe* full slicks, not M/T ET streets and they were still squirrelly going down the track. 


Either way, this car is an amazing feat of engineering, especially when you consider the hybrid drivetrain and the fact that it's making that much power from just 5 cylinders. I swear, them Scandanavians have all kinds of surprising things up their sleeves.
