Wooden telephone pole? Those smell of Creosote, a wood or petroleum product used to preserve them from insect infestations. I didn't get that from the two Stouts I've had, and I'm pretty sure I hope I never do.

I guess neither Nebraska nor Oklahoma can use $100 million in new taxes.

FedEx is the absolute worst! And USPS is reliable, IF you buy insurance. But FedEx reeks.

I just finished my second, and though it was 66 and lovely outside - nice break from recent chill - it was breezy and the result was stubborn runner issues, it straightened itself out by the second half. But not without a few touch-ups in the first half, which made the experience shorter than it should have been.
But I'm laying the blame on the wind here. And I find the band somewhat attractive, thought understated . And understated has its place. Viaje have proved themselves in this industry, and I have no need to be stimulated by a flasy band. The green, silver and white of the band is all right by me.
For the sticker price, we might have expected more changes and boom, but it is very nice cigar, and I, for one, will look for another fiver before they vanish forever.
Personally, this is a +\- 90 cigar, should we need a rating system based on 100.

My first, a Lancero, had a draw a notch above "wooden dowel ", except for the final two inches. What little smoke I was able to get tasted great, but the draw was way too tight for me.
I'm so disappointed, and gave myself a headache trying to elicit a draw, which only opened up the final two inches!

I know what you mean; I found someone who had a stash of Chateau Real Maduros, and I pray they don't attract much attention! They have decent age on them, and are the rival of Liga Privadas, though considerably milder.

Kinda like one musical artist or band remixing the work of another? I'm having my first Collaboration live (thank god) in my back yard.
I am seeing your review unfold pretty much on the money. It's good, but not worth the ton of hoopla (a great word, IMO).
It's windy, which is causing minor burn issues.
What's the deal with so many cigar reviewers being wedding photogs, and vice-versa? Were you introduced to cigars at a wedding you were photographing?
Great review; I look forward to reading many more!
Picked up a pair of these at my B&M up the street, from the $6, 5/$15 cardboard box, along with a La Deuńa Robusto. So age (2 1/2 years?) on 'em, but some rawness is still present. Might be a really slow-aging blend. But this is not a bad stick at all.
Might pick up a couple more this weekend, while they are still there. The $6 box has been stagnant for a couple months, but there seems to be "new" product galore in it now.
Lots of cedar, as is to be expected. The grassiness (a flavor note I'm notoriously not fond of, doesn't seem to be there, or at least not very much.
I think there's some potential for these yet, but it's not a knock-your-cock-in-your-watch-pocket sort of flavor bomb. I think these are mainly in the "okay" category, but will never become anything spectacular...

@Cigary @TriMarkC I feel I must address this. Some of the Las Calaveras that had the burn issues never spend a night in my humidor, while some did spend time there.
Furthermore, LCs with the burn issues were in stark contrast to ones I also bought in my B&M, in that they had no such issues. I've thought all this through already. I'm 66 and no newcomer to cigars!
Frankly, this stuff about a "sick period" sounds like industry-apologist BS to me.

@TriMarkC To be fair, I've had a couple of these that had little, or few, burn issues. But easily 75% of the ones I've tried just wouldn't stay lit.
I don't know if they're too damp, or if there's another issue, but it's not 100% across the board. Hopefully, Four Kicks has heard this complaint, and trying to take measures to correct it in the near future. But how do you know if you're holding one of the "fixed" ones, or one of the bad-burning ones?
The best way I can think of is the change the label in some easily-identifiable way. Or add a foot band that means it's been tweaked successfully.
I'd like to hear from Jonathan Huber on this. I'm not mad, but I am disappointed I spent so much money on sticks that afforded "negative pleasure", to put it mildly.
It's okay to still believe a cigar with a ring gauge the size of an Ohio-class nuclear submarine is absurd. Really. It is.
Frankly, I don't get it, and if I haven't gotten by now, I never will.
56 is as far as I go. Anything beyond that, and you're drowning the wrapper's flavor in a sea of filler flavor.

Not getting the grapefruit so much, but hey, if you want to taste strong grapefruit in a cigar, the Merlion's the one.

"Coca powder" = COCAINE. I'm having my first as I read this, and not getting any cocaine out of it.
I had a couple from my nearby B&M shortly after buying them, and they were quite good. I think there is a lot of potential for aging there. Time will tell.
I bought a 4-pack from (I think) SMALL BATCH CIGARS, and had severe problems with keeping the first 3 lit. Had to light each 5-6 times. I dryboxed the third one for a couple days, with the same result as the first two. Any ideas? I have one left.
It's not my humidification, because ones I've had in there for some time don't have any issues. The last of the La Herencia de Cuba COREs smoked just fine.
It seems the LAS CALAVERAS may have been too damp. How long should such things be dryboxed? I'm pretty upset, as you might imagine!

@LouCiccone They're probably only being sold at select B&M accounts, and a few online retailers. Your best bet is a good old-fashioned web search. Don't put it off, as I think these will only be sold once a year, and when this year's production is gone, that's all she wrote, until next year.
These will supposedly be a different blend each year, like some Tatuaje releases.
Best of luck

I'm uncertain as to what "neutral powdered cocoa" connotes, and "the predictable nature of the Tatuaje Tattoo is not so memorable." is just plain gobbledygook, Charlie. You predicted it before ever trying it? If it doesn't mean that, what DOES it mean?
Sorry, I haven't had the cigar, but I read the review, and you can do a hell of a lot better than that.

@Charlie Minato @TriMarkC I recall that grapefruit note being quite prominent in a La Sirena I grabbed out of the $6 box at my B&M. It was the only one. (Sometimes the suggested priced isn't much above $6, sometimes it is). I've been wanting another LS ever since - for breakfast!
Last night, lighting up a Liga Privada T52, I got this definitive raspberry note, just going into the finish, very briefly. For about 3-4 draws, and then it was gone like the morning dew. That's a note I'd never encountered anywhere else.
Why no mention of the J.D. Howard Reserve? The rest of the stable were included.
@celtwarrior SECEDE FROM WHAT? Our states only exist virtually, and we don't even have a country anymore - just a plutocratic morass. But we're still here. TIme to move on to the next level.
