Viddy's win is a real disconnect. What was the basis for the nomination and win? Was it a small committee, a LAVA org vote or something else? All very odd.
Michael, you are absolutely right that comparing the view of an MMS ad to a click on a display ad is not an apples to apples comparison. In essence it is like comparing a banner to an opt in email ad. A more interesting comparison would have been click through rate to the underlying product page/offer for each of the MMS ads received although there is still room for debate on whether the comparison to display is valid.
It would be interesting to see solutions developed where one of the actions that you could take on a display ad is a button to push the message to you via MMS to allow interaction later. So rather than make it about MMS v display it is how to use the capabilities of the mobile channel to create the best user experience for the user as well as value to the advertiser.
Great to have @GA in Los Angeles and collaboration with @launchpadla is a further plus. This is fantastic for the LA startup ecosystem.
