I think you are right in many counts, except one:

It's all about the PHOTOS.

I would not buy a Cartier bag if the listing has a picture of the bag on the floor with a dog. If I'm shelling out hundreds for something, I want big photos and a professional description to give me confidence to buy it.

And you can't really see the dress when it's hanging in someone's living room. It looks much less appealing than if you have it on a white background or on a mannequin.
