The title and the pole are two completely different topics.....
"A Question-of Authenticity".... Is it an Audi Sport Quattro.. NO... Is it a Lotus Esprit...NO.. Titles don't lie.
Authenticity Example.. Shelby Cobra.. Numbered chassis from Ford=Cobra everything else is a continuation or a replica.. Without original chassis ID numbers you just have something else.
A car= Race/Street car 4 wheels and a drivetrain.
"What makes a car a car"... Whatever floats your boat.
Chassis it is, everything else is a modification but the chassis is the soul of the car. The ID number tells the world what make and model it is or was.
I have nothing against going crazy as these guys have done or Peter's wild Delta build but it is the chassis that gives the car its brand and model name. Once you remove the original chassis and ID number you are a specialty construction title... Just the facts.
Yeah I'm the old guy with an attitude but I've earned the right as an owner of both Lotus and Audi modified cars over the years to voice an opinion here in the comments section. If you don't like what I've said then voice an opinion or else just look at the pretty pictures.
I don't own a suit, hate champagne, can grow a fuckin stash and drive the shit out of my modified "LOTUS" and "AUDI".
PS: maybe Speedhunters will do a story on my new "Lotus" rebuild and you can see what can be done with the original "Lotus chassis", an open mind, good friends and some hard earned cash.
Now that's a car I may have to own one day soon. I remember passing on one back in the eighties because it was too rough to drive in the So Cal heat... It's just so rough it's cool.

@MortenRuud @roninlotus211 I ask only because I had a timing belt come apart on my 6R4 due to heat soak ... I found the trick was to crank the engine over a touch every few minutes until the engine cooed down so that the engine heat did not dry out the belt in one spot for too long..

I wonder how long the timing belt lasts being so close to the exhaust heat. Belts and heat don't get along for very long. A belt cover or heat shield from the exhaust would be a good idea to keep the radiant heat at check, wrapping only goes so far.

Factory supported "race cars" will always hold a greater value than the home brew to a collector. I'm no collector but an enthusiast and have been all my 63 yrs. I'm just tryin to point out facts....
It's great that guys can take a pile of tubes and build a track burner and I'm all for modifying anything but call it what it is, that's all.

@RodChong The point no one seems to get is that these cars are not a Lotus Esprit or Audi Sport Quattro. Why is that so hard to understand? They are poor replicas at best, they don't have the same windshield rake or bodywork, chassis, suspensions or drivetrain.... Or do they have a Lotus Esprit Chassis ID or Audi Sport Quattro ID...They are wannabes , fakes, replicas, something they are not. That's the point I'm making..
Sure they are fast race cars but they are not "Lotus" or "Audi" race cars...much the same as if I put a cheapo fiberglass F40 body on my car and called it a Ferrari...

Acc, I'm not here to talk about my "RS211" Lotus but to correct you it is a "Lotus chassis" from the very beginning. It runs the same factory OEM supercharger [I added a turbo], it runs on 91 octane gasoline [alcohol kicks in over 20 psi], replaced the original Toyota gearbox with another Toyota gearbox strong enough to handle the power and the bodywork is in no way "rat" like in fit or finish.
My car is a modified "Lotus Elise"... Besides chassis these cars don't even have the same profile of the cars they claim to be...
Sorry to be the bubble popper but replicas are wannabes no matter how fast they are.

I've owned Audi Sport Quattro and Lotus Esprit in the past and I own both Audi and Lotus now. I know the difference between a "real" Audi and a "real Lotus..You guys don't it seems.

My car has the track record for a Lotus at Big Willow back in 2007 still to today with only 290 whp but who cares not me...
The point is these builds are not Lotus or Audi cars, they are purpose built wannabes.

Having owned a number of Lotus and Audi cars I have to say WTF is with these builds.... Rat track builds.. I'm so tired of this Gatebil junk in the trunk builds... If you want to call it a Lotus then build a Lotus same goes for the Audi...Records held only on one track in Norway.

To show how much you know about nothing, if Lobe goes off at Pike's Peak he will most likely die at the speeds he travels.
Not all run offs are hard and smooth, they are designed to offer a safety barrier of space and the gravel is designed to slow the car down. It is soft and creates drag and the splitter can act as a plow. And most cars do not get back on track without significant damage.

If in fact you are an engineer the world needs better cup holders so please stay in school and learn about polar movement of inertia and the effects of inertia will have on your Dew when a splitter hits gravel or a corner bump strip...

@cornerbalance In that photo it was at a 3.5" clearance at the splitter on 550/800 lb springs. Track springs are now 600/1000 on the new 1,650 lb setup.

@Golightly @RodChong Have a closer look at the on track photos.. Height is not adjustable on the fly. And why 5way adjustable shocks for 1" wheel travel ? Come on, how can you even tell what is happening with the suspension to make the proper corrections..
As I said nice build if building a car for show is what you want but it's not a Lancia Delta anymore or is it a well thought race car unless the track is smooth as glass.

Nice workmanship but fail as Lancia Delta or race car in my opinion.
The car is cool but it should have stayed Lancia powered and what's up with the 1" of wheel travel before the body makes ground contact.?
@roeby That's about as brain dead as sayin the NSX looks like crap.... The R8 is the modern version of the NSX. Just better.
