The guy pretty clearly has an axe to grind with OSU. Here's yesterday's column:

But they're going to have to gamble again to hope for more viewers. I agree, it might make the league look worse but all MLS execs agree that the footprint has to expand.
3 weeks ago on 5 Ways to Fix MLS on TV
Another issue with the national pull of MLS is that they were kind of forced to expand in to smaller or Canadian markets for the sake of putting butts in seats. While Portland is a great city and a phenomenal soccer town, it's also only the 23rd biggest market in the country. MLS kind of had to scatter themselves after the Florida failures of the 90s. The result is that the teams are largely on the periphery of the continent and seen as very regional. We'll see if this improves with more exposure in the Southeast with Miami, Orlando and perhaps Atlanta. But it could be a long slog for MLS to get some national traction -- though the good thing is that so many clubs are on sound financial footing with their own stadiums and strong local followings.

@chrisc74 Unfortunately it's never going to happen. Relegation only takes place across the world because soccer in those countries pre-dates the notion of owners making huge sums of money off their teams. No way you get 21st Century MLS owners to take the financial risk of relegation (on top of the primary financial burden that is being an MLS owner in general).
We're too dumb for nice things.

Of course The World Series lost the 18-49 demo -- 5.6 to 4.4. And baseball's lead in was an audience of 22.7 million from the FOX late NFL game (mostly WAS-DEN).

On the media side, kind of a shame all this was happening in the US match and no one (other than soccer fanatics) knew what channel it was on.

This TBS contract has been an utter catastrophe for MLB. Why on earth did they re-up til 2021? By that time, 7 people will be watching nationally televised games.

Well, in fairness, Big Bang Theory re-runs are a lot more popular than baseball on TV.

@LFN Unlikely with the Big Ten Network being run by FOX. B1G is getting more and more FOX-centric.

Well the NCAA would throw a hissy fit if a mainstream network tried it. That's the big caveat.

The Fox Gameday rival is going to bomb big time with Andrews (or anyone they put in the seat for that matter). The only unique thing that a show opposite Gameday could offer is a ton of gambling information - that's what I'd do.

"I will point out he didn't mention the Cubs, a fanbase so hardcore that
they still outsell the White Sox when they're dead last in MLB
standings."But this isn't about ticket sales, it's about fan behavior once they've purchased tickets. The Nats are now 9th in MLB attendance - ahead of the Cubs and the Red Sox. But it is a largely passive crowd. And like the Cubs, Nats games have become a social event in DC.

@joelucia @LONESTAR21 And what Selig wants to happen is for Angelos to sell MASN to FOX. Otherwise the Nationals are stuck with the Orioles owning their rights along with the now longstanding battle over how much Angelos will have to pay per year (it's overdue an increase).

The Premier League has grown out of a niche league for enthusiasts in the Fox Sports World era to more mainstream, live in the now coverage in the US. This NBC deal is further proof of that. Just going to have to adapt to the fact that fans want to monitor the league in real time, even if that's a Saturday morning. We wouldn't expect to have CBS hide scores, real time updates and highlights for the sake of those who might want to watch games delayed on NFL Network of their DVR.

Actually, for the most part, Fox picks up the Premier League/IMG Media feed with their audio - not Sky Sports.

"I'd put him right alongside Ian Darke as a top play by play man"
Disagree. White is nowhere near Darke. But I think that White will tone down some of his MLS hyperbole for the Premier League where you don't have to manufacture as much drama.
