I'm a fan of Ty Sanga and predict really great things for him now and in the future.

Great post, Brian. I laughed and laughed throughout. My highlights: Your opening conversation with the wife; the pool party pic and the need for wine straight up.

Ed, it's been an honor to have you on our team throughout this whole journey, from the Metromix days, to Nonstop Honolulu and now. So happy that you're moving back into a space that you're meant to be in.

@Melissa808 @Myong @Chuggy_Bear @ale808 I've had bad experiences at Eastern Paradise lately. Totally overcooked mandu, really salty jajangmyun. I'm ready for a new Chinese-Korean place to open.

@PaulaGillinghamBender Thanks for the comments and thoughts, Paula. It's good to hear from people in all different kinds of situations.
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Let’s talk about social media
@Dania Katz I would love to hear your thoughts, Dania, on social media, how you view it and whether you think there's a difference being on an island other than Oahu.
@zaiteku Those are interesting questions for me as well. Personally, I want deeper connections. But now, it's blurred, because I now communicate via Facebook with several of my close friends who live on the mainland and abroad. I do not like talking on the phone, so Facebook has allowed for me to keep up what I consider very real relationships. It's all a little murky, but something to think about.
@JasonSeaborn Yeah, it's interesting to really think about what you like and dislike about social media. What I appreciated about the people I interviewed was their honesty that not all of it is great, and that they're not 100 percent gung ho at every moment, which might be the perception others have of them. Thanks for the comment.
@nonstopmari Thank you. Me too.

@harrycovair The one I want is $2,500. But that will have to wait. You can find under $500, but not sure about the quality.
@Chuggy_Bear Yes give it a try. I liked that they didn't care about proper restaurant protocol (having a name, doing publicity, starting up on social media, etc.) and just focused on the food.

I am feeling "Mad Men" withdrawals too, with the thought that this is the last season. Thx for the great recap, Joseph.

@Andreas I actually thought of you today and wondered what you thought of the name. I know you were never a fan of our Nonstop name, so it made me curious to think what you think of this new direction. Miss being able to bounce ideas off you.
@DeniseHayashi Thank you Denise! We're looking forward to partnering with the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival as well.
My favorite is the ahi limu from Yama's Fish Market. I get a half-pound then drizzle some Adoboloco Bangkok hot sauce on top. But I have to try Da Pokeman, one of these days when I'm in that area.

@MyongChoi @Annoddah_Dave But which restaurant would be go to? Maybe that new place that's opening on Kapiolani.
Wow Grant, that definitely was a meal that most never get to experience in their lifetime. I love the fact that you targeted this place for years, researched it, then went in for the killer meal. Well done.

Great post, Mari. Made me a little teary even at 6 a.m. while reading it.
I hope this catches on. Would be good to have more quick options when I'm in that neighborhood, whichis often.

@Melissa808 Yes, they're open for lunch and have a lunch menu with good-priced chigaes. I also saw one table order a kim chee rice dish that was shaken up in a little box. I'm ordering that next time.

@Annoddah_Dave It was pretty good because they have these funnels that drop down from the ceiling to suck up the smoke right from the grill, so when I got home, I smelled a little bit like BBQ, but not too much.
@MyongChoi That's funny that you passed by the night we were there. It was totally jammed in there, with both Koreans and local families (non Koreans). Something changed about it from the first time we were there. Go try it again and let me know if you get that as well.
@WillL You know, before Christmas Eve, I wouldn't have considered taking my mom there. But after I saw her digging in to that steamed egg and then the kalbi, I realized there is a broad appeal to all age ranges and backgrounds. I'm curious how your dad will like it.
@Melissa808 @Annoddah_Dave Oh my gosh, you and me both. I called Celeste "Claire" at first!

It's been a long time since we've gone out on one of these group dinners and liked just about everything. I wasn't really expecting to like so many things. Definitely worth a drive to Kailua if you like this type of food or are interested in trying it. And yes, despite my attempt to eat a vegetarian entree that night, I did love those shortribs.

After two visits to this place, I'm addicted. That garlic-butter sauce, plus the lemon-salt-pepper mix, could literally make any type of seafood taste great.
