I miss Nanz at Taste.
Rajanee is very good but all the way out to Mililani or we would eat there a lot.
Our experiences at Thai Issan haven't been good.
Sala Thai is a big favorite with most of our Thai Friends but not open for lunch except on special occasions. Was there yesterday with 23 ppl.
Yaya Thai (lunch truck) is pretty good. Located near downtown on Millani St.
Liliha Bakery's LM isn't bad either. Nice list...

@Melissa808 @russkar : it was like Onodera but for $85- not $165- plus, plus. Isn't it sad how some of the finest establishments don't get support and eventually disappear..I believe the Gaan Chef when back to Japan.
We sure miss Gann (sushi) which used to be in the same location. It was fabu.
We were going to go to Il Buco recently but their "no outside wine allowed policy" killed that idea...not even with a corkage charge?

We tried Simply Ono yesterday. We decided on the Roast Turkey Plate $9-. It was fantastic and the best thing I've eaten in the building so far. Can't wait to return.

Myong, you couldn't be more on point. For some reason average to mediocre NEW Breakfast , Sushi and Chain Restaurants have been getting a load of undeserved buzz.
Then when we finally try these places after all the glowing reviews and guess what ? The Emperor has no clothes...
I've made a point of not reviewing several of the new restaurants because if I don't have anything nice to say then why bother...lol

Nice Blog and a lot of fine choices but none of these places feature #1 Sashimi Grade Ahi, but rather #2 or below.
The only places that use the highest level of fish are Kyung's, Keeaumoku Seafood and Ono's on Kapahulu.

Nice looking Drink (Guy Tai) but it has nothing to do with a REAL Mai Tai.
There is only Fresh Lime Juice used in the Trader Vic's & Don the Beachcomber recipes from 1940's.
If you want to experience a SCRATCH Mai Tai you can order them at Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar or Halekulani. They're Strong but Damn Good!

Of course most Fugu is Farm-raised in Japan nowadays exclusive of the toxins and can be rather bland.
The last time we had "wild" fugu was at Urasawa in Beverly Hills about 10 yrs ago.
He quit getting it because customs kept seizing it.
His preparations consisted of Sashimi which made your tongue and fingers tingle and was very flavorful unlike the recent Japan experience.
Fried and last but not least Fugu Sperm Sack Risotto which was really good but unusual just the same.
Followed by O-Toro with Gold Flake and Beluga Caviar on top.
