I personally hate aggressive braggadocious flirts! If you want to get to know a young lady say "hello, how are you doing"....
and the beat goes on today...think Kanye West and his new fake outrage song. He hates the man so much but he sure loves his women and those that look closer to them!!
Great article Toni! I have experienced this many times while serving in the military. I didn't know what to call it but I knew it was to my detriment. Black women are especially vulnerable to these archetypes because we have carried the worlds burdens for so long that subconsciously we allow others to dictate our emotions and well being. We have been seen as powerless by society and succumbed to denigrating societal mores and standards. The only way to win is self-actualizing into the wonderful beings God called us to be by knowing we are intelligent, generous, worthy, beautiful jewels
Swooning here......what a lovely story to read about two people in love and wanting to spend the rest of their lives together--made my day!
I have noticed Hollywood et al has a warped view that women have to be fine as all get out and the men can be slouchy, overweight and not so attractive. I know its PC to say women are more after the heart & men are after looks...this is a new day!! Requirements go both ways--why ask for what you don't possess??
Wow, kinda puts to shame people saying their family wouldn't approve or there is too much of pressure from society to fight for your true love....
Growing up in church I always thought the order of importance was God, then Jesus, then the holy spirit, then mothers :)) Sorry dads you guys are equally important but a "momma" will lay down her life for her babies and fight tooth and nail if you mess with them. My mom went to be with the Lord almost 2 years ago but she was a gracious and kind woman. God bless those that still can hug and kiss your mom. God bless those even more that have one looking down from heaven today......
Christelyn is preaching up a storm today!! I was just talking the very same thing with our church youth group. All of these "thuggish" rappers go home to a mansion after they get through spewing hate and misogyny. They protect their own children while they advocate for violence, rape, and color bias towards the black community. Any sane black person would not let these rappers, ballers, entertainers draw a red cent out of their pants pocket/purse.....
I feel ya...I have to stop myself from relishing in some peoples pain also :))
I'd like to help you but I am in the same boat. I get "you are a cute girl--Why aren't you taking advantage of that?" Meaning use your looks & body until they wear out then look for a meaningful relationship. I get put in the crazy for not using what you have category.
Yes indeed! I saw this first hand when stationed in Korea in 89'. The kids were called Eurasian back then and were pitied by the American military and shunned by the Korean population. Every year when we did the combined forces campaign (giving to charities), we were "encourage" to check he Eurasian children block since so many GIs were getting Korean women pregnant while there on a year tour. Only to return back to their wife and carry on like nothing ever happened. It was an embarrassment to the US military but what could be done?? Tell those trifling GIs to keep it in their pants or use a condom....
That hair & outfit....definitely getting a sexy 70s soul singer vibe!! Not mad at ya
Congrats Christelyn...Your star is shining brighter and brighter!! Just want to know, do you ever sleep :))
Oh my goodness, you made my stomach hurt with that "cat on my head comment" :))
As long as some black people self hate we will see this type of hair shaming. I had so many family & friends "concerned" when I went natural. It was "you are a good looking woman, why would you want to go natural, only certain people can look good natural, most ladies with naturals look so unkempt etc etc. The bottom line is there is a shame of our natural coils because its unlike any other hair texture in the world and somehow this makes it weird or undesirable to many. "Nappy" hair became a way to belittle blacks and magnify their otherness further enabling the status quo 2nd class citizenry.
Either you will become healthy or become sad :)) Seriously it does get your blood pumping to see fit healthy bodies on display. Got to increase my treadmill level now!!!!
