I wouldn't want to put a lot of miles on a classic like that. Would it be practical to look for a later oval and drive it, say, 5,000 miles a year? I'm retired, probably don't drive more than 200 miles a month. Or should I go for something a little later? I love the big sunroof which ends in '63. I don't want the high seats and newer bumper from -- I believe-- '68 onward.

That 1953 is going to be great. I've had '55 and '56 VWs. I'm not a historian; thought the 36hp engine had come in by then. Is it something that could be used a few times a week around town, or would that be unwise? They had hydraulic brakes by then, yes?
