You bring up some numbers but TP is probably one of the worst defender in the league, there's a lot of times that other teams' so-so point guards get the best of him. Honestly the only thing TP could do is just scoring, no so much on defense and share the ball.

6 months ago on Why Jeff Ayres Should Start

Reply

Neither him nor Diaw is a NBA starter, that's why we always get killed in the paint when Splitter isn't here. Splitter is injured, but even when he's healthy he's not earning starter minutes. I'm not saying he's a NBA starter yet but as individual he's just a better player than Diaw and Ayres. Diaw can pass, yeah, but other than that he's just a fat, slow undersized PF with inconsistency, people on this site call him a defensive stopper just let me laugh. He's probably on the bottom of NBA starting PF if not the worst, talking about defense. His only trick is to flopping. As for Ayres, clearly a much better defender than Diaw, at least he has heart, but man, offensively he's raw, maybe not better than some rookies. Splitter isn't much an offensive threat, but he runs pick n' roll better than any bigmen on this team not naming Tim Duncan. He has no mid-range but has some solid post moves and he got height to grab double-digit rebounds on some nights when given minutes. The Spurs' front line, minus Duncan, can only compete in NBDL.

TP is one of the worst defender in the league and there used to be Bruce covering his axx that so he can concentrate on scoring his one-man basketball. Now they want the same thing? I know Curry is a difficult cover but you still can contain him if you cannot stop him all. When Leonard comes over to help he'll lost his man wide-open, if Leonard is gonna guard Curry one-on-one, that means TP would need to guard Jack or Thompson, that will still not help. Trade TP next year! Maybe his inside scoring is elite but his defense is way below average, a total liability.

The Spurs best get this opportunity to get him going early, if they cannot win it all this year.  @jwalk415 Allen is just a cry baby. Bruce makes him feel bad every time because he's so great at defense that often block Allen's vision which resulted bad shooting. Elite defenders make you feel uncomfortable, that's normal, and a good basketball player shouldn't complain that.

It's impossible to find a guy eventually "replace" Manu because he's so unique and he can changes the game by himself. De Colo obviously is not that material even he reach his ceiling. The only player I could think of, that could be the most similar to Manu in today's NBA, is Greivis Vasquez. Vasquez can start, he can also lights out from the bench and score. Of course Manu has those intangibilities that probably no one in the NBA can really compare; but aside from that, I see 60% Manu in him despite Vasquez is less athletic. However, he's only 25, still have time to improve, and he could someday developed to an unique player, just like Manu.

This guy will at best play in Austin Toros, being called at times, play some garbage minutes when we are down like 30, and then may join next year's camp, doing the same thing, then get cut or disappear someday, then go somewhere in Europe, Russia, or China. Let's be honest, how many D-leaguers ever make big impact for the Spurs? Don't tell me Alonzo Gee, though he thrives a little now in Cleveland, with Spurs he rarely get chances. I think the same thing will happen to James Anderson. The former 1st round pick will become a good rotation player even one of their future for the Hawks, that's because other teams ACTUALLY PLAY THEM TO SEE THEIR POTENTIAL.

Maybe they are searching for another Gary Neal... but even they find that gem they are not contending the championship. They need real talent and star power to win crucial games. That's not replaceable even you find 10 Gary Neal in a row. The Spurs now need an all-star, or even a borderline all-star. TD is way better than any NBA player playing at this level at 36, but he's still not 26, same goes with Manu. TP is proved he cannot be the NO.1 option, in fact, rarely players could. The Spurs need a major trade, probably need to break their big 3.

@Emicris You're righ Manu is so valuable to the team espeically some aspects you cannot see on the scoreboard. It will be a total lose if the FO can't find agreement with his agent on contract extension.

He just want KD to get tougher, nothing wrong with that. The Spurs are really soft these years since they lost guys like Elie, Bowen, Horry, etc. They need that NASTY.

Why lure him here? The Spurs don't need him and he doesn't need the Spurs, either. We need a DEFENSIVE BIGMAN and he certainly is not. Plus he will definitely be a bench warmer if he comes here, so why bother?

He needs probably a dozen games or so to adapt if they ACTUALLY give him quality minutes. Then I think he can start showcasing what he can do to help the team. If their FO show enough confidence to him and let JA have freedom to do something he was not ALLOWED to do when in Spurs uniform, I see him eventually successed. I doubt he could ever be an Allstar but definitely better than Neal, Joseph, Green, and Blair.

1 year, 11 months ago on Will James Anderson find his place in Atlanta?

JA is WAY more talented than Green, he is just not the type of player Pop likes. Green might already is at his top ceiling but JA is a real deal to become an all-star. Pop just know how to use role players, and JA is certainly not his favorite.

Among these 3 teams the Magic is clearly the frontrunner at Oden. They have huge cap-space; and they just lost Howard so no one will be challenging Oden's status if he join them. They can sign him a long term if they're confident with Oden's recovery, and they can make him the center piece for the future while he's still relatively young. The Spurs? No capspace, no promising playing time, don't even think they're frontrunners. The Spurs are always a frontrunner for old guy searching for championship before retiring though.
