... just to elaborate, one of the best sources of calcium is tahini (sesame seed paste). Leafy greens, such as kale and spinich are also excellent sources and the calcium can be absorbed much more efficiently by our bodies.
I don't mean to be an argumentative fool on here so sorry if I am coming across like one. I just really don't like how set in our minds this myth is about dairy being healthy.
Anyway, other than that, this is a great source of alternatives for those who enjoy substitute foods. I certainly love the Vegusto dairy-free cheeses as a rare treat :-)
"But keep in mind soy cheese doesn’t usually provide as much protein or calcium as most types of milk cheese" I would just like to add that dairy IS NOT a good source of calcium so I wish it wouldn't keep being mentioned like it is. Yes it has calcium in it, but dairy is extremely acidic, so when it is consumed, our bones leach calcium to neutralise our blood and keep our bodies safe. Compare the west where we are the highest consumers of dairy and have the highest rates of osteoporosis (bone disease) with the far east who are the lowest consumers of dairy (traditionally not consumed at all) and osteoporosis is virtually non-existent. If dairy was that healthy for us, the West should not be suffering such ridiculously high figures for this.
