While I knew what he meant, I didn't like the English translation either so went with the French tweet which said "Negotiations between Anton Stralman and Rangers are not progressing as expected. The next few days will be crucial."
I thought he was gone before the Nikitin contract. Definitely didn't change my mind after it. Would love to see Allen take that jump but is he ready? (And yes I realize that's more a question for Adam lol)

@KevinTheNYRBlog If it was Arniel's fault he was on there so long, then I agree. I just have this feeling he didn't make that decision. No clue on Stralman or even Staal, for that matter.

Could be wrong but I think the Rangers taking Richards off the power play will make a bigger difference than if Arniel is there or not lol
Did you see this video from TSN coverage last night? When Canada's broadcasters are screaming, you know something is wrong lol

@Medvjed004 @Gorangers0525 Honestly not sure the rule on backup goalie. I'm guessing if they get in at any point, not just Final, they get on but honestly no idea. Maybe team needs to ask for them to be put on? Was going to look it up but figured I would wait till it became relevant ;-)

@Gorangers0525 No...you need to get into a game according to Tom Gulitti: https://twitter.com/TGfireandice/status/474259332813438977
Who is one of Talbot's closest friends on the team? Kreider. Someone needs to tell the kid he's only supposed to injure opposing goalies not all goalies ;-)
But seriously, this had to happen after game 6 either during celebration or while off the next two days. Hopefully we won't need him but I would still feel better with him on the bench just in case.
Is it bad we all had the same reaction when we heard his status was in the hands of the medical staff rather than his? Honestly I'm surprised they emphasized that as then they can't blame Step if he plays when he shouldn't.

"University of Wisconsin product"? Who do you think you are, Pierre? :-P

@Betweentheworlds Works for me. I just hope that's enough. I still remember watching him try to play with the flu. It wasn't pretty so I doubt they will chance that again.
I don't think pain will be the issue with Stepan playing or not. It will be how much energy he has and how much he has been able to eat/drink since the surgery. He tried playing without anything in his system once before. He didn't go so well lol
@KevinTheNYRBlog Yeah...and Carcillo left with the regulars according to Zipay. That's the only thing that's making me think he isn't playing. Otherwise I agree he has to be in.
Agree on Brassard as my initial thought was it was gamesmanship as well. The only thing that gives me pause is this:
That said, still think he's playing and AV is just messing with everyone.
@KevinTheNYRBlog Haha good point. I always wondered what twitter reaction was at the time. Impressed Neill was able to find any tweets from that day ;-)

The best part about this is how few RTs and favorites the first few tweets had. If something like that happened now, those numbers would be in the thousands lol
This is my biggest complaint with the entire Penguins team. That team is so damn talented that 29 other teams would KILL to have even half the talent they have. And yet they have the maturity level of a 2 year old and would rather take a cheap shot then try and score goals. Absolutely infuriating to watch as a rival fan so I can't imagine how I would feel if they were my team. (Then again if my team did half the crap the Pens do, I probably would've disowned them as my team by now lol.)

@Josh-CK I said the same thing last night. I looked at the shots and score in the third period and said "well if the Pens do win this series, the good news is they will think they are a good team and then get swept by the Bruins" lol
2 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Completely agree with everything you said here and I think what's pissing me off most is the Penguins don't look good and the Rangers aren't taking advantage of that. I hate to say this but this team used to care about playoff games. Where did that heart and intensity go? (I know...Columbus, Tampa and Vancouver...well temporarily on the last one lol.) I still think the effort is there but it's just not playoff-level effort. It's more like early regular season effort. That said, they're trying which is why I'm not giving up but I agree something is just off.
And what happened to Stepan? He played fine in the first round even if he wasn't scoring. Now...I don't get it. And I'm sure there are a ton of people who will say trade him and he's worthless and blah blah blah. I don't buy that. But last night was the first night something was just off. Those two plays on the 6-on-4 at the end...I've never screamed for him to get off the ice. I did last night lol.
@scrangersfan Brass line as the second line? If so, I agree but the Rangers actually consider that the third line when referring to the lines. All other teams call it the second.
The part I find most interesting is hearing who other teams think is the second and third line - no one seems to know which is which. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing lol
@KevinTheNYRBlog Works for me! lol
I want to blame the NHL but it's due to arena availability - Pens building isn't available on Saturday (which is probably why they couldn't play afternoon on Sunday either), MSG isn't available next Thursday and Friday. That didn't leave a lot of room for games. That said, would've rathered Tuesday-Wednesday back-to-back, rather than Sunday-Monday.
@KevinTheNYRBlog I was thinking more about where it hit him (mid to lower back) than the actual shot but fair enough. I honestly had forgotten about it until saw it mentioned elsewhere so wanted to get someone else's point of view on it.
Saw someone mention this so wanted your thoughts - any chance Girardi's game was due to that blocked shot before the first goal? That puck got him pretty good....
After he scored yesterday, I looked at my father and said can we re-sign him during the playoffs? When I heard about the signing last summer I hoped it would work out. This is above and beyond (pun intended lol) what I expected to get from him. And it couldn't have happened to a better guy who literally is loving and enjoying every second of it.

Do you really believe both of those diving calls were phantom calls? The one on Zuccarello was but Dorsett embellished the crap out of that "check". I wasn't happy it was called but watching it, that one was right call. The one on Zuccarello though was horrible. I wonder if they called them both because of McDonagh's reaction to the slash in the first....

@KevinTheNYRBlog @upstate tomOf course it isn't working. Doesn't mean they aren't trying. Maybe Berube is dumber than I give him credit for but I just don't see why the Flyers would change their entire game plan to hunt a defenseman with a bad shoulder. That's dumb even for them!
3 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Let's see what happens in the game. Right now, I see this as talk to try and get into McDonagh and the Rangers heads. If they actually do it, will be another story. (They might but I won't believe it until I see it. Something doesn't pass the smell test on this with me.)
@Herman_NYRBlog FYI he's kinda important... ;-)
Just curious - where is Girardi on that chart of relevant defensemen? lol
@KevinTheNYRBlog Okay. I'm not saying I'm opposed to it. Was just curious if you thought that's what they planned to do.

I think this is a little different than Prust as the family part doesn't come into play - sure he would love to go to Boston but I can't see Boston making a play for him since they have guys who fill his role. In Prust's case, I guarantee Montreal used the "you can be closer to your girlfriend" angle. I also think he loves the city more than Prust did. Not saying Prust didn't, but Boyle really seems to love being a Ranger. So then it comes down to money...and there I have no clue.
Btw, you mention DMoore and Carcillo both coming back so you think the Rangers keep four guys for that line? Cause Dorsett is already signed and rumor was they refused to trade him at deadline. In my eyes, he hasn't done anything to cause them to change that thinking.
"…22 points (7g, 15a) in the last 21 games for Stepan. Maybe he is a #1 center?"
Please let this mean everyone will stop trying to trade him again this summer!!!! (By everyone, I actually mean everyone; not implying you as don't remember where you stood with him lol.)
I'm curious what the Rangers power play numbers were on March 5th. Yes I realize there weren't a lot of games in February but I think that's when the change happened. Which to be honest does amuse me because when that trade was made we figured it would help the PP and our PK would suffer. I think I've finally given up trying to figure out this team.
@johnnyb3910 @NYRblogneill@KevinTheNYRBlog Makes complete sense to me and I honestly have no idea what their plan is. I was just saying that we don't know how much they are willing to spend.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@NYRblogneill @KevinTheNYRBlog His agent has said he might. But how much less? You think he takes $5.5 cause of that? (Not sure math on what number would equal same in NY without taxes so maybe he would.)
@NYRblogneill @KevinTheNYRBlogThey have the money, no question. I just don't know how much of it they plan to spend. Tampa isn't known as one of the teams to be near the upper part of the cap lol.
Let's put it this way - Stamkos is making 7.5 and Filppula is at 5. Where do they see Cally fitting in? Is he worth a million more than Filppula to them? Maybe he is, I'm just not sure.
@KevinTheNYRBlog Absolutely. But I would be shocked if Tampa gives him the 6/36 contract he's looking for. Honestly think Yzerman saying he wants to keep him is him keeping the PR hit in mind. Then when Cally leaves, he can say "we wanted him but he didn't want to stay".
I hope he stays because I've spoken to a bunch of fans down there and they really do love him. I just don't see it happening. Hopefully for Tampa's sake, I'm wrong.
Just because Yzerman says he wants to re-sign him, doesn't mean he will be. Of course Yzerman wants him. He wouldn't have traded for him if he didn't and he's the type of player they need down there. But we'll see how much Yzerman really wants him when Bartlett starts throwing numbers out there. As well as this is going for both Tampa and Cally, I would honestly be surprised if he stays.
I've interacted with him twice - seeing him at a STH event and then speaking with him at Casino Night - and I honestly don't think there is a more humble hockey player in the NHL. The guy always has a smile on his face and is just plain happy to be doing what he loves to do. Absolutely deserved and I agree he has a great chance of winning (although I always wonder if that's a good thing or bad).
Side note, and I hate to do this, Moore only has 18 points not 22. Unless you are predicting for him to have a 4-point night tonight ;-)
I've thought for years the Rangers medical staff was bad but this almost takes it to a whole new level. Surprised Sather hasn't stepped in on a few others who probably shouldn't be playing....

I made the exact same comment about Miller when I realized he was benched, especially after noticing he was on for the 3rd Flames goal (which I don't blame him for). I heard AV's response but that looked just like a Torts move.
As for Stepan missing, look at one of his linemates. I feel like besides not scoring himself, St. Louis somehow prevents his linemates from scoring as well. (Although tonight it was more they all kept trying to get him a goal rather than shooting the damn puck themselves.)
Speaking of which - you compared Diaz to Stralman? I know why but how about mentioned Diaz has more goals as a Ranger than MSL lol
@Hotfreak I'm not ready to judge him yet as I fully admit to knowing not a thing about him before he got here but can't argue with your thoughts on him. My guess is he'll end up a typical Rangers 5th/6th defenseman - capable of doing the job but will be far from perfect most nights.
4 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Diaz probably took a step back because he was on his off side. (I know good players need to be able to play both but some can't...or aren't good players.) Amazing that at start of the season, we were willing to bring in anyone to be a RD. Now we need LD.
Getting Eric Staal, in my opinion, would start (START) with giving up Stepan and probably Miller or defenseman (maybe John Moore?). I would love a Staal reunion on Broadway but giving up the whole team to get it isn't worth it to me. Plus that cap hit right now is worse than any we have and that's saying something. (Not that he isn't worth it but it's just really high.)
As for Skinner, I would think that would cost Marc Staal so guessing he isn't coming to Broadway either if the plan is to keep Marc. That said, if Marc wants to go to Carolina, I wouldn't mind looking into a Staal for Skinner swap. (I've kind of always assumed if we trade Marc to Carolina, we would be getting Skinner in return.)
@IcyCup who picks it then? the players? no way. that comes from coaching staff.

@dave062069 Exactly my thoughts. If McDonagh was leading candidate for C, then he would've gotten Cally's A. (Especially since he's never had a letter in the NHL.) So either Nash is clueless or AV is being an idiot once again. Sadly, either could be right....
On the Cally comments, they ran with it cause anything on Callahan gets them page hits right now. (Come on, you should know by now they work the same way you do!) It's the reason I didn't read a single one of the articles mentioning it ;-)
I'm not going to even touch his comments on Sather other than to say maybe this will be one of those situations where someone is shown full support and then shown the door a couple of weeks later. (Wishful thinking, I know.)
@IcyCup A few months ago I would've agreed with you. But I saw him play back to the standards we expect of him after the injuries so now I'm not sure. But something is obviously wrong right now. I'm almost expecting to hear about some new crazy injury once the season is over just because it's always something with him. Not sure what the plan is for him but I could see his negotiations going worse than Callahan's did if it gets to that.
I'm pretty sure you plan to call out St. Louis next to get him scoring but can you call out Staal and Stralman instead? (More so then you have been...I mean a full post on how bad they've been.) If you don't think it will work on a pairing then just Staal. I miss the old Marc Staal. The one that finally looked healthy earlier in the season.
