Also I REALLY like what they did with the multitasking tray shortcuts and widgets. I don't think the app preview crap is necessary because you can't really see anything, but the extra widgets and settings are amazing.
1 year, 12 months ago on Awesome iOS concept shows redesigned notifications and UI
I don't see the point of the new popups being at the top of the screen. You can't continue to use the app underneath it, really. I like the new design they've done, it's very nice, but why put the alerts at the top? It makes no sense and it's actually visually quite jarring to me.
Here's what I'd like - a button on the far-right to interact with a notification, which opens the alert. This will show you the full notification and allow you to reply directly or what have you. I would never want these huge ass boxes to cover 1/3rd of my screen whenever I get a text, sorry.
And none of Samsung's current lineup would exist without Apple's innovation... So they kind of need each other.

That is a pretty freaking awesome ad. And that's the best way to do this kind of ad, too. It stands out, but it doesn't hamper the functionality of the website for more than half a second. :P Really cool!
2 years ago on Exploding Apple iPod ads appearing on several websites
True. If Apple's stock shoots back up in a few months, he will have lost a TON of money.
I don't agree with you though that that kind of bonus is acceptable... I think it's really greedy for Apple to be giving that much money to one person. Imagine how much money Tim Cook makes for the amount of work he does.
Capitalism blah blah blah, it's still absurd how much money these people are making. It just goes to show how much less expensive their products could really be, how much money they are *not* spending on R&D, etc...

The iPad mini plays 1080p video. Amazon is using the fact that the screen is lower than 720p to say that it doesn't play HD movies or TV, but they are being intentionally dishonest here.
2 years ago on Amazon removes anti-iPad comparison
Wow, talk about intentionally dishonest.
"No HD Movies or TV"? Are you on crack, Amazon? The iPad mini supports 1080p video playback. It's displayed on a 1024x768 screen, but to say that it has "No HD Movies or TV" is just a lie.
And Mono Speakers... Well, they just didn't do their research, so I'll let them get away with that one. At least it's not a lie.
The rest is fine. But you won't see Apple doing a comparison of their products to anyone else on their website. And they do have advantages, people.
It helps if you actually provide a counter-argument, rather than simple-minded insults.
2 years ago on Tim Cook continues to bash Microsft Surface, 7-inch tablets, says iPad mini is in a different league
They already allow iTunes Match users to stream content. In iOS 6, when I play a song I don't have, it doesn't download it unless I specifically tell it to.
It'll be interesting to see what they come up with in the way of subscriptions, though.

Not surprising... I think most people would just buy the best iPad the can if they're going to spend $500. Why buy an iPad mini, which is inferior to the 3rd gen iPad in literally every single way?

You can't read them on your Mac, unfortunately. It takes some getting used to, but I quickly became addicted to reading books on my iPhone. I spend a lot of money in a very short time period on comedy books (as you can see from the screen shot).

@BrainRoopull As a UX director of both iPhone and iPad apps, I can assure you that iPad and iPhone apps are completely different. They require an entirely separate approach to design and user interaction. It's actually a lot of work sometimes to bring an iPhone app to an iPad intelligently.
Android apps for tablets really are scaled up phone apps, in MOST instances. The developer has not developed a tablet-specific version, they've just let Google scale it up for them and it has the exact same UI with smaller elements.

That would be impressive. I see the retina pros like the Airs, they will start off expensive, but eventually they will be priced more affordably, as the manufacturers and suppliers see the demand.

@Queyh It's not minor for me. It's extremely annoying to me to have to constantly jump in and out of settings, and I end up doing that 10 times a day when I don't have auto-brightness on.

@jerenyun Could be right. I think it'd be great on any of the iOS devices, though, because you never lose them. No more "Where's the god damn clicker, Marlene?" lol

I agree. I really wish Apple would allow us to at least *hide* the apps we're not using. Especially Newsstand as you can't put it in a folder. I wish they'd hide the Newsstand folder until you actually download a magazine. Same with passbook, hide it until I actually am using it.

@amsmagic I am an iOS developer. I have to have an iOS device, so if I get an Android phone I will still need an iPod touch or an iPhone.
First of all, I'm not the one who made this. Second, if you actually *read* the article, I clearly said "I'd be paying for this plan whether or not I bought a new phone".
There was "no_reazon" for you to post your comment.
2 years, 1 month ago on The real cost of the iPhone 5: $1,800+
@touchmyapp There are new UMTS-only carriers (same freq as T-Mobile) in Canada that offer very inexpensive unlimited plans, but they only work in major cities or "hotspots", and anything else is "roaming". I assume he's on WIND, Mobilicity, or Public Mobile.
That's definitely a possibility with the new iPhones. I just think a brighter, coloured phone would make damage more visible.
You're right that colour makes the device stick out, but for me personally, I can see myself getting tired of one colour. With the iPhone I have never felt that the colour of the device was of much importance (aside from a white face making the content harder to see in daylight). I think the content on the device should stand out on its own.
I think there's a difference between developer conferences and keynotes, and consumer-level advertisements. Granted, Apple's keynotes have a heavy consumer viewership, but they are held for developers, shareholders, and press outlets. Motorola, Samsung, and Nokia are all basing entire ad campaigns on attacking one competitor. Even when Apple does make slights against the competition, they usually talk about what makes their product better. They don't just talk about what sucks about the other guy.
Even if you choose to go down the attack route, there are much bigger issues to attack Apple on than the lack of colour. Why don't they do what Motorola did and highlight a major flaw in the new iPhone? They could've talked about how the Lumia 920 is an incredible camera, beating the iPhone 5 hands down with its purple lens flare. They could've talked about how Nokia Maps is one of the world's best mapping services, absolutely slaughtering Apple's Maps.
I probably should've elaborated on this in the article.

I definitely can see the parallels. The thing is, I am getting tired of that metaphor. It's quite old.
If you'll read my previous article, you'd see that I'm not a blind Apple fanboy. I can see Apple's failures plain and simple, and I'm not afraid to speak out against them. I just don't like the kind of ads that their competitors make against them.
Show off your own product instead of bashing another one.
@SkyPira That ad clearly focuses on the iPod's ability to play music. The entire ad is musically-focused, using the colours as an assisting design element. I'm not a fan of this commercial either, but at least it's not a commercial about how a rival mp3 player doesn't have circular icons or something else pointless.
@SkyPira Good point. I still think the ad should've at least shown one feature unique to the device besides colors. Even the new iPod commercials are more thorough than that.
@SkyPira I didn't "explode" at all. Sorry you feel that way.
@MikeGooden My opinions don't represent the entirety of TodaysiPhone.com. I'm not that hostile, I just find this particular behaviour absurd. They didn't even mention what's great about their product, just the superficial exterior. It's idiotic.
@SkyPira Well, if you checked out my previous article, you'd know I'm not an Apple sycophant. I just find it absurd for one company to attack another on a matter of pure taste.
Thanks for your comment.
@SkyPira I don't think I'm "ignorant". I would've known that if Nokia had touched on that at all in their ad.
