I try as much as possible to be stupid, cocksure, intelligent, and full of doubt at all times. Works for me, and everyone thinks I'm batshit crazy, which is a free pass.

Trick question: the entrepreneur drops out, thus never subjecting him/herself to the whims of a handsy gym teacher, changes the game that's "cool", then makes a mint selling sporting equipment to the school district. See: Grant Miller & the hula hoop, inline rollerskates, freestyle walking, and "jogging". Alternatively, you can just rap about it and call yourself "The Cool Kids". I was the dude in school, didn't play sportsBut was still poppin' all the cheerleaders, WHAT'S POPPIN?- Mikey, The Cool Kids

@mcarney @galica @sarahcuda I'm trying hard to live by the credo that "the only time you fail is the last time you try". Anything less is the hallmark of a mediocre entrepreneur :)

Tbh, not much of a stretch given what the likes of http://www.greenlabelsound.com/ and http://redbullrecords.com/ have been doing for a minute now. (Mountain Dew is gross, but I still manage to love the heck out of them for essentially being old-school-type patrons of Star Slinger etc).Given that I've actively participated in that dynamic (plus some stuff I gleaned from my time at Nike) I definitely think there's a ton of value to be had from this type of "brand curation". But I'm also pretty sure that nobody in their right mind on the brand side would willingly bear the catastrophic risk of being "dude who make the playlist that sucked and hurt our brand". For primarily that reason, I think that the furthest you'll witness a brand slide down that spectrum is something like financing a DJ to do an original mixtape collab/compilation. (For ex: I still listen to this mixtape on the reg, even tho the show got canceled lol: http://www.mixtapepass.com/music/9099)

Hi @richardjnieva! Long time listener, first time caller. Big fan of your writing. If I may... It's worth mentioning that the "user experience" you so eloquently describe is comprised of two parts: distribution & discovery. Together, at scale, they've coalesce into a pretty thought, but I fear that (especially in Pandora's case) it still runs aground of the crippling licensing issue at play (Pandora's streaming "radio" being treated differently that terrestrial radio stations, etc etc.) Finally, to oversimplify whilst adding a dollop of my own subjective bias:Distribution - still a matter of "pipes" and/or hardware. (Btw, I remember from awhile back these dudes wanting to do something like what you describe, check out: https://angel.co/overhead-fm)Discovery - here's the deep, dark secret... IT'S MADE OF PEEEEEOPLE! I love me some EchoNest as much as the next guy, but this fundamentally can't be solved by perfecting an algorithm (btw... remember the Netflix Prize?) like straight-up search. A truly consistent serendipity-UX demands that single-human deference be paid to context & curation (whether that influencer's strength is topical or social). In short: "go DJ... that's my DJ... go DJ... that's my DJ". Songza knows what's up. Jelli.com seems like they do too.Lastly, never forget this important fact: guns don't kill people, LAZERS DO. ♫ DJ Schmolli - Jingle Bells Pon De Floor http://beastmode.fm/track/1345267?ref=galica via @BEASTMODEfmEnjoy :)
I didn't wan't you to feel left out (cuz I posted a sweet jam in comments of @mcarney's post) so I went ahead and found a good track for you (and/or suitable musical accompaniment to this blog post) too; albeit it carries a more somber/serious tone/tempo to match: ♫ Adele - Skyfall (WIGGZnWONZ x Young Piff & Sandor Trap Remix) http://beastmode.fm/track/1378150?ref=galica via @BEASTMODEfm

@mcarney I continue to love the tack of galvanizing the community in response to a common/foreign "enemy", ha. Btw It occurs to me that Silicon Beach has yet to properly thank Pando for its above-and-beyond devotion for giving LA tech its due (and in truth, @sarahcuda's clever gamble). By the power certainly not vested in me, I'd like to convey my gratitude by presenting you with literally the hottest single mashup track I've encountered this month. Enjoy friends, you've earned it: ♫ Kap Slap - All of the Nights (DJ BAHLER Remash) [Kanye + Heroes X Villains + Kid Cudi + Phoenix] http://beastmode.fm/track/1364344?ref=galica via @BEASTMODEfm
I fully agree, both from a cautionary tale perspective and also along the lines of a Werner Herzog notion of "ecstatic truth" conveying greater reality through non-facts. But how come I can't think of any in Silicon Beach right now?! I courageously volunteer to take one for the team. @mcarney you're on deck.
1 year ago on So does this mean no more tech rock stars?
FFS. We honestly need to declare war on a country whose only natural resource is intellectual capital. How about: Re-Revolutionary War, Part Deux (With a Vengeance). England has no guns, so all we'd have to deal with is profuse polite apologies for the trouble of however long this takes.

@CamRasouli Lol I know, but I do wish you'd dress him more like he owns a nightclub. More gold chains and satin shirts (heavily embroidered tshirts also acceptable) plz.

@sarahlacy Hahah I literally just walked into Coloft and said "sup my Persian Jew!" to @avestar
The best threats always leave your opponent too confused to respond. Like facing the threat of violence at Hollywood Park while being called a "country boy".
