My hope is that Notre Dame is forced to join a conference (really could care less which one) so this ridiculous favoritism and fawning over the bead stringers ends once and for all. Anyone who believes ND belongs in the National Championship game when they are given a free pass to blow off a conference championship game just because....well, JUST BECAUSE.... Doesn't believe in the idea that every team should play by the same set of rules as every other Division 1 team. If I were in control, every conference would play a championship and every team would be in a conference- the only exceptions being service academies in years when the country is at war. NO ONE has the right to a free pass to the National Championship game.

Franklin is an excellent coach and amazing recruiter. Which is why his agent has probably already contacted Auburn, Arkansas, and - believe it - the University of Tennessee.

Let this be a lesson to all weed smoking high school athletes: the more valuable you are to your coach, the more chances you'll have to burn tree and play ball on Saturday. Just remember, the rules just do not apply the same for gifted potheads. FYI Les, if you think just bopping through a few days in rehab will "cure" someone from getting high, you are seriously delusional. Go ask Darryl Strawberry how many clinics he buzzed through.

My sources tell me that there and many people in the program - both male and female - ready and willing to testify against Jennings in this case. If she's able to survive a summary judgment motion to dismiss her claim, the attorneys will likely work out a settlement behind closed doors to save Summit the embarrassment of testifying, but that is no small feat in Federal Court. I'd guess that more than half of all discrimination cases are dismissed pursuant to a motion for summary judgment.

Coach Martin should give recruiting lessons to the football team. Maybe then they would land some top prospects and not have to always settle for two and three star leftovers.

Ok, let me address the elephant in the room: the reason this REALLY blows is that it causes all the fantasy players to commit to team selections on Thursday night, before all the injury reports are finalized. Bad enough after Thanksgiving, but for the entire season? Horrible.

My guess is that next year's rule will allow players who had helmets intentionally removed, or who lost their helmets while obscured under a pile, to stay on the game after inspection. More importantly, it will allow refs to call a 15 yard penalty and automatic 1st down against players responsible for intentional removal. So it is written. So shall it be done.

All in all, a great week for the SEC, save Auburn's performance against Clemson and Kentucky's expected flop with Louisville. Now we get into the meat of the schedule. Really looking forward to the GA/Mizzou and FL/TAM games this Saturday. What an outstanding way to welcome these two newcomers to the SEC. If any Georgia fans reading this are headed to Columbia this weekend, be sure and stop by The Heidelberg for a beer before or after the game. I wandered into the place 4 years ago and met some wonderful people there. I can't wait to get back there someday!

I think it goes to Arlington for one reason, and one reason only - money. Jerry wants it, Jerry can afford it, and Jerry's gonna get it. If it comes down to bidding, most everyone else is not going to step up and match Jerry's wallet (although had the Haslam family been successful in buying the Titans from Bud Adams and not ended up buying the Browns, it could have gotten interesting) Fans of the SEC (newcomer Texas A&M and LSU excluded) will say it's too far a drive, but you've got to consider the Big 12 schools as well. I look at it this way - it's like we're getting ready to feed an animal we know nothing about. Let's give 3 or 4 cities a shot, and then re-evaluate. I wouldn't carve Arlington or NoLa in stone just yet.

Ask any Tennessee fan how great of a recruiter Trooper Taylor is, and you'll know why Georgia should be worried about this commitment. You can trace Phil Fulmer's demise back to his decision not to promote Taylor to the offensive coordinator's position when David Cutcliffe went to Duke.

Dear Notre Dame: Quit trying so hard to be special. Frankly, those days have passed you by. You are no more a part of the national college sports championship discussion than Navy. Get in a league and learn to be part of something greater than yourself. Which, by the way, is pretty freaking spectacular.

Fine. Here goes. I admit I made a joke about your mascot, and viciously bludgeoned your institution of higher learning. I will say in my own defense- I did not castigate the Georgia players as mindless thugs, it's supporters as drunken fools, nor it's coeds as boorish Trollops. I did, however, call your mascot a halfwit. And for that- I sincerely apologize.

USC has never been the most exciting team to watch, and - let's face it - when they win, it's usually ugly. The defense is just good enough to stop most teams of equal talent by a point or two. If Razor is saying his team is going to run the ball more in 2012, it tells me he's found someone special he can use to grind it out, or he's B.S.'ing. Eh, probably the latter.
