One of the biggest barriers to getting value from data--especially data from different sources like you're referring to--is the integration piece. Finding the linkages in the data, normalizing it so that it's based on common basics (timeframes/entities/etc), and then determining which data sources is the most accurate for each piece of information. Without this layer it's almost impossible to get value out of it to pass to the next layer (visualization, statistical analysis, etc).
