@Frank J Lapidus @LA Woman @EephusBlue This team has about as much talent as anyone in the league. It was starting to come together at the end but just didn't happen soon enough. Wasn't our year. Next year will be. Give this lineup a full year so that the highs and lows get a chance to even out.

@EephusBlue @Frank J Lapidus @LA Woman What we're gonna do is hope the offense is as good as it looks on paper, and lean hard on Kershaw.
@EephusBlue Has his swing always featured him using the bat to stop himself from falling over when he swings and misses? It seemed like he was crazy off-balance on some of the hacks he took. Struck me as pressing too hard.
@plaza234 Why don't we wait until the offseason before we decide what ownership is willing to spend? They've already proven doubters wrong several times over. Remember when people were saying they wouldn't want to spend big because they spent so much money to buy the team? How'd that prediction turn out?
I've said it repeatedly here, the luxury tax is a joke and I believe the Dodgers will (continue to) treat it as such. Greinke signing could easily still be forthcoming. And can you honestly say that if they had signed Hamilton you wouldn't have complained about THAT contract clogging up the books for the next decade?
@Dirtbag_Blues @Frank J Lapidus @EephusBlue Meta-irony, ohhh yeahhhh
@EephusBlue @Frank J Lapidus @Dirtbag_Blues Obviously they wouldn't work out to their detriment, so I guess I oversimplified what I was trying to say. Steroids mimic the body's natural recovery process from weightlifting, which both accelerates progress and allows quicker recovery so that workouts can be stacked closer together. At least that's my understanding of it. I've never used them but I've spent a lot of time in weight rooms talking to people who do. Surprising how much chemistry a meathead will learn to get a little meatier.
@EephusBlue Didn't he have the longest consecutive starts streak in the majors before the hammy this year? It must be especially hard for someone who I'm sure is not used to his body betraying him. He had big plans for this year and was delivering in April. Gotta feel for him. I think he'll come into next season on a mission.
@EephusBlue @Frank J Lapidus @Dirtbag_Blues Speeding up recovery IS for power. The more frequently you can lift and keep building muscle, the better.
@EephusBlue Depends on the price tag.
@Dirtbag_Blues O's, A's, Reds, Tigers, Rangers, Nats, Braves, Yanks, Cards
@Dirtbag_Blues @DodgersKingsoftheGalaxy @EephusBlue I'm pulling for Beltre to win the series and MVP to boot.
@EephusBlue @Dirtbag_Blues Maybe my favorite use of that meme ever.
@Dirtbag_Blues @EephusBlue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_Area_Laboratory_Co-operative
@LA Woman @Dirtbag_Blues I really believe that the team will be great again like you say. I didn't believe that at all a year ago when McCourt was splitting up all the team's properties to exploit them, the farm system was basically shot, and the Dodgers were being run like they were the Pirates or the Royals. This ownership group has been such a blessing already. I hope they keep building on the fantastic start.
@Frank J Lapidus @WestonTaylor @EephusBlue Bobby Abreu batting third in a significant number of games doomed them too. It's hard to remember because the team has changed so much, but man was it rough when Kemp was out.
@WestonTaylor I mean, it happened in Miami, so it's not inconceivable or anything. He can be a frustrating guy to watch at times because of his talent. But I think he'll keep on balling. More worried about Gonzalez, if anything, because more is expected of him and he seems like, I dunno, a gentler soul or something.
Also what was the deal with Hanley and that rake in the dugout 9th inning?
@DodgersKingsoftheGalaxy Pulling so hard for the O's to be the top seed in the AL.
@DodgersKingsoftheGalaxy @KungFu Panza It's much more like "mixed" than "shit". He's made some good moves, some bad moves. So has every GM in the league. The team has been on a mostly upward trajectory throughout his time here except for when he was operating under the worst financial constraints. I'd say he's doing a pretty good job.
@EephusBlue @LA Woman @lafan4life78 If you can draw a single connection between something I wrote and one of your responses, using quotes, then I sincerely apologize for the insult. I legitimately did not think you had read what I wrote based on your replies because they were so far from being a response to what I said.
@EephusBlue @LA Woman @lafan4life78 If your responses clearly indicate that you have absolutely no idea what I'm writing, what else am I supposed to think?
@EephusBlue @LA Woman @lafan4life78 I don't know if you're trying to rewrite the wikipedia article on straw man arguments or what. Does it make you feel cool to mock me for things I'm not saying? Seriously. You have not once addressed a single thing I said. To me it seemed more polite to assume you just didn't read what I wrote, rather than to assume your reading comprehension is that terrible.
@LA Woman @EephusBlue @lafan4life78 When did I say the Dodgers are the Cubs? The only people who brought up the Cubs are people saying "at least we're not the Cubs", like you and Eephus. I made absolutely no comparison to the Cubs at any point, because I DO NOT think the Dodgers should be compared to the Cubs, as I clearly stated. Reading, people. It helps.
@EephusBlue @LA Woman @lafan4life78 So, no then.
@EephusBlue @LA Woman @lafan4life78 Care to actually address something I'm saying? Once again, one bad thing happening does not make another thing better.
@LA Woman @EephusBlue @lafan4life78 Irrelevant point remains irrelevant.
@EephusBlue @lafan4life78 This is a major market team with a long, proud history of success that has won two playoff series in 24 years. You tell me to stop being a fan of a team that I have absolutely loved for my entire life on the basis of an argument that I didn't make. That's cool, bro. I did not fucking say that the Dodgers are a failure as a franchise because they haven't won a World Series. I said they have won nine playoff games since 1988. There is a massive fucking gap between those two things, and you're ignoring it.
Again, holding yourself to the standard of a team that is a national punchline for never winning makes no sense. There are about a million reasons this is true. Am I not allowed to be sad over a breakup because someone has gotten a divorce? If I get mugged, should I not be upset because someone else's house got broken into? One bad thing happening doesn't make another thing better. The "we're not the Cubs" argument holds no weight, period.
@EephusBlue @lafan4life78 Holding ourselves to the standard of a team that is literally the poster child for futility makes total sense.
@EephusBlue @lafan4life78 "Some very exciting times" = 9 playoff wins in 24 years? Maybe it's all well and good for those of you who were around for the last WS win. But for the rest of us, it has been basically all suffering.
@DodgerDog22 I usually try to hold out hope, but this team just looks bad right now. Still a month to go, but really if they don't get it going by the start of the Cardinals series, the season could well be over.

@Booby Abreu I like to call them "Not the Yankees".

@Booby Abreu I can find those anywhere, I come here to revel in Dodger victory. Or gripe I guess.
EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE
@JoeyE @Micro Scrotumo Pretty much only if you're Melky Cabrera. I would imagine most other people are pissed that he's probably going to "win" it. Especially McCutchen who has to compete with a ghost. A cheating ghost.
2 years, 2 months ago on Stop Wasting A.J. Ellis, Please
@JoeyE @Micro Scrotumo 501 PAs at .346. Need 502 to be eligible. Add an out, he's still at .346. McCutchen is at .341 and losing ground. Melky is chilling somewhere scarfing burgers and laughing maniacally.
@Micro Scrotumo Got a full and hearty chuckle out of me.
Also, Melky Cabrera is cruising to a batting title.
@efb @DBrim Fall doesn't exist in SoCal. I discovered this when I went away to college and found myself being hit in the head by falling branches and such, much to my surprise. "So THAT'S why they call it fall!"
@Lobo @Gilbert_Vengeance Division was out of reach for the Orioles and Rays a month ago, look where they are now. Obviously there were some big examples last year too, but I think that gives a pretty good idea of how much can happen in one month.
2 years, 2 months ago on Dodgers Lose Yeah Whatever Over It
@LakerDodger24 @wilhud I came in at a kingly 85. I had Ryan Mathews, Trent Richardson, Hakeem Nicks, Beanie Wells, Rashard Mendenhall, and DeMarco Murray all coming in in various states of ill health, and Aaron Rodgers and Finley up against the Niners, so I pretty much knew when I drafted that this week was a loss.
@wilhud I knowingly punted this week for the sake of the season... Half my starters were gimpy coming into the year but my team is pretty stacked I think so I'm not worried about a loss this week. Now if only my starters weren't perpetually terrified of the end zone.
Division is highly unlikely now, basically impossible without wins both of the next two games and even then no sure thing. This one hurt pretty bad. Luckily the Dodgers control their fate against the Cards too... if that even counts as lucky.
2 years, 2 months ago on Dodgers Squander Opportunities to Fall 5.5 Out
@phattonez7 @WestonTaylor He's their fourth pitcher and as far as I can tell they have a six-man rotation, it's not like saying he's league average does anything to prove that they haven't been playing well.
2 years, 2 months ago on Padres @ Dodgers September 4, 2012: Hey, It’s Eric Stults!
@phattonez7 @WestonTaylor Those Padres DO have the best record in the NL West since the start of July...
@Frank J Lapidus @VietnamDodger Facing the bottom of the Padres' lineup... He was fooling nobody once he got to the major leaguers.
@KSR7827 Only if our pitchers give up a jillion runs.

@EephusBlue @WestonTaylor @KSR7827 Missing Strasburg is so important both down the stretch and for the team chemistry. I really think the Nats screwed up their situation with him because they weren't expecting any storylines. It could end up being very important to the Dodgers.
@KSR7827 @WestonTaylor @EephusBlue Until it's over six games, I think it's entirely possible to cover the difference. We have six games left against the Jints, let's see where that leaves us.
@KSR7827 @EephusBlue They gave Pagan Cabrera's locker. Including contents.
@EephusBlue Just to clarify, I don't believe in fifths. Only handles.
