i think his last sentence is a zinger: "But we certainly respect the great program that they have at Oklahoma and the other good programs that they have in the Big 12."
everyone else is just good? ouch, Texas. That one hurts. (honestly i don't think that's how he means it, but it's still funny nonetheless)
the funny part is i can here certain fans screaming or yelling via announcers microphones at nearly every games in every arena. it's not unusual, so it's pretty ammusing that this one event became an internet sensation, almost overtaking the spurs' historic win.
btw, i didn't hear anyone complaining during game 4 against the lakers when a fan who was sitting directly behind the announcers was yelling profanities at manu and bonner. it was loud enough you could hear it on national tv, and the ref even stopped the game until he stopped. where was the media then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AURQFljQ91g
he is aware that all conferences end up with an overall (conference) record of .500, right? i would hope so. every conference is going to have their bottom dwellers, especially with so many elite teams taking all the wins. the more elite teams you have, the more illusional bad teams you have. put last year's teams like mizzou, miss. st, ole miss etc in another conference and they likely would have won more games. that's just the way it is, so dillusional bob needs to worry about his own team that not so coincidently lost to all three heisman finalists.
lol it won't bode well with texas. give it a few years and they'll be up to 103,000. when A&M built The Zone in '99, surpassing DKR at the time, texas added on. When A&M built the 12th man TV (at the the time the largest video board in the world), Texas added one of their own that was exactly 1 square-foot bigger. I have no interest in being "the biggest", but it will be amusing to see how Texas responds.
@I4Bama your number is exactly right. fran came in 2002 and a&m didn't look promising again until 2012. the reality was when sherman came in 2008 he basically had one player with NFL-level talent on the roster. sad but true.
too bad the video doesn't show who started it. they're both jawing at eachother, but it's tough to tell who shoved first.
i was at a spurs game in houston in 2008 that we lost, and while leaving a rockets fan ran by and yelled "get out of our house!" (note" i'm a 5'3" girl and this guy decides to come yell right in my face). so I quietly responded back to him to "get out of the first round" (remember how they oculd never win a playoff series with yao ming?). a few people around us cooed a little, but the guy just kind of nodded and walked off.
in hindsight i probably shouldn't have said anything; if i were a guy he may have retaliated. the moral is no matter how much another fan eggs you on, just let it go and keep walking. if they keep bothering or stalking you, report them.
in reality it's more disappointing that timmy came in 6th than the fact that he didn't win. he should have been top 3 at worst.
he's a sissy for caring so much. if you can play, you can play and that's where it ends.
you know when you really think about it, that CBS article indirectly showed how little the media cares about the spurs. they've made a huge deal about johnny being at rockets and mavs games and hanging out with players like lebron and james harden, but never once has the media questioned him being at a spurs game or being down on the court talking to tony parker. given there’s already media and poparazzi at "big games" to catch him with the “big name” players like lebron, harden, CP3, etc, but apparently the spurs aren’t worth the media’s time even if it does involve johnny communicating with an all-star/top 10 player.
i know it's poretty random and not that related, but it's still kind of a funny and telling observation none-the-less. that being said, the spurs and johnny have a lot in common. both are successful sports figures that people love to hate but secretly wish was their's because they win so much.
@BonzaiB i don't recall much before that, but i think mike leach is part of what made the a&m-tech rivalry so intense (in a bad way). he's the mark cuban of college footnall: trash talk, crazy behavior, etc and it definitely rubbed off onto his fans. tech fans are known for poor behaviorl ike throwing bottles and batteries at A&M fans and the band and booing (or chearing) injured players. they also injured several fans when they threw the goal post into the stands in 2001 (or something like that).
they kind of settled down a little when leach was fired. i've always believed his firing had something to do with the image he had laid upon that school as much as anything, and craig smith's little brat gave them the opportunity to fire him that they'd been waiting for.
@KellyJones2 from what i've read they've had conversation in the past, but what A&M is trying to avoid getting into a long term contract with them to keep a slot open for the texas rivalry (despite what old DeLoser says, that rivalry will resume probably sooner than people think). i can see A&M and techmayber agreeing to one home-home series or a game at a neutral site, but that's about it.
he was already my dream guy for being austrailian (don't ask, i have no idea why), now even more for being nerdy! someone find out if aron is single for me! ;-)
this is more splitting hairs, but another way to look at it is not so much what each have done individually, but how the team has done without one or the other. you always want both players healthy because that's when the team is at its very best, but when one isn't healthy, i can't help but notice that the spurs have been better with a healthy tony/injured timmy than healthy timmy/injured tony.
is that a fair assessment? not really when you consider the depth at each position and the timing of their injuries. the spurs have enough depth behind timmy to hold down the fort for stretches without him and enough offense to overcome his missing defense. plus the Feb. schedule (despite the RRT) wasn't that daunting.
on the other hand, they have struggled a lot without tony lately, but in tim's defense they also lack the depth behind tony with no one that can really create plays and score for himself, especially when manu is out or hurting. it's really not a fair comparison because duncan's had to carry the team without both tony and manu. it's also late in the season, the players are getting tired, and the scheduling the last few weeks have been brutal.
so really this assessment doesn't tell you too much either. the spurs were better with healthy tony/injured timmy than healthy timmy/injured tony, but there's too many other circumstances to consider. for everyone's sake, i'm calling it a tie!
@John at MrSEC @jmouton11 Please John, don't tell me you're on the same page as this poor guy: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2013-03-31/sports/os-matt-murschel-college-insider-johnny-manziel-04-20130331_1_johnny-manziel-johnny-football-heisman-trust
i have pictures of me with David Robinson, Bruce Bowen, Avery Johnson and Malik Rose. I'll be sure not to post them anywhere or I might get misinterpreted.
...and to think some people criticized A&M for going to the SEC because it's FARTHEST division opponets (Alabama and Auburn) are around 700 mi away. Heck, West Virginia's CLOSEST conference opponent is Iowa State, and Ames, IA is almost 900 mi away with the quickest route being around the mountains and along the Michigan border!
For comparison (aside from Texas and Baylor, who are about 90 mi away) A&M's closest opponent was OU at about 350 mi. Now, LSU is the closest at about the same distance, and Arkansas, MSU and Ole Miss are all less than or not much more than 100 mi further than Lubbock, TX.
Suffice it to say, those who thought A&M was taking a leap by traveling to neighboring states not called Oklahoma probably have their foot in their mouths now and clealy aren't aware of how large this state really is. We're Texans. We're used to driving long distances.
nick saban is the gregg popovich of college football, and bret bielema is the mark cuban. put the four in room together: nick and pop will sit back and relax on a sofa while sipping wine and smoking a cigar. bret and cuban will stand there drinking beers while ranting how they're so much better than the other two despite records/championships suggesting otherwise. nick and pop will just look at eachother with a little smirk, shrug their shoulders and go on doing their job.
and to further validate this guy's arrogance: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-12-02/sports/os-matt-murschel-college-insider-1203-20121202_1_robert-griffin-iii-heisman-trophy-kansas-state-s-collin-klein
Hey John!
What do you think of this guy's writing? He basically says Johnny (or any other freshman in the future) doesn't deserve the Heisman because he isn't an adult yet (in other words, he goes to a common Spring Break destination, goes to a Halloween party, dances...basically all your typical college stuff). Does this guy even know what he's talking about or is he just a whiner?
From what I can tell the NCAA does everything in their power to prevent athletes from getting any kind of advantage over other students (no gifts, money, agents, etc), so aren't they at least entitled to at least live a typical college student life?
it's true that all teams have had their time in the light, heck Tulane was once the team to beat. the main point (which i can tell you understand) is most of the small schools from the SWC that got left behind by the Big 12 had more of those times than baylor. it took them 15 yrs just to be relevent again. Houston, TCU and SMU (had they not screwed themselves over five years prior) were overall more successful and deserving than Baylor. baylor got in by shear politics, and it has only barely started to pay off. at this point RG3 (and Art Briles to a much lesser extent) is their saving grace.
you're right that TCU ended up with the advantage. all those years in the lesser conferences built their confidence and recruiting base. i think they'll be fine in the big 12. it's really hard to judge them right now when they played almost the entire season without an experienced QB. they definitely have the defense to stay allive, but in the big 12 you also need the offense. if they can get their offense clicking again this year, it will be a great opportunity to make a statement with OU seemingly headed into a "down" year and texas having yet to show they're for real. i'll be rooting for TCU partly because i'd love them to crash the big 12, and because my mom is a horned frog and she's been very tolerant of my dad and me with all our aggie-antics ;-)
