I think this solution has existed for a decade and it's called HTML. It's pretty darned advanced these days. I hear the fifth version is coming out soon.

Brain Pickings is one of the best blogs on the internet right now, and Popova deserves to be making money from it. Furthermore, nothing she's done is offensive to me. All the rage here seems to be that she asks for donations without explicitly stating all the ways the blog makes money, which seems like an unfair expectation.
