@jabombardier Who cares? Does it really affect anyone if Samsung sells more or less high end devices?

@christopheriswalking Why do Android or Apple users have to hate the opposition so much. I don't go around telling people who drink Pepsi they're idiots. Not everyone needs a super high end phone or wants to spend that type of money. Plus both OS have features that the others don't. So Android people are considered dead end and zombies yet IPhone buyers who will buy anything with an Apple logo before even seeing it are the geniuses. I have products from both companies and my Apple products have been far less than perfect. Choice is good and we should all applaud it
Some people think that cell phones should be available to the non rich or the non celebrities. Personally I wish Google join forces with prepaid carriers to promote the Nexus 5. In the US, you can get the 16gb device for 349 (basically $150 more than a contract iPhone or higher end device) and then pay only $45 on Straight Talk for LTE Service on ATT - A full 2.5gb…(a similar plan on ATT directly would cost over $100 on contract). Its got to be the best deal in the cell industry. Yes the camera may not be as great but Ill take that and save thousands over 2 years.
They should do the same with ilife iWork…When people are getting it free for new Macs, it doesnt seem right to charge your existing customers…especially when they've paid over $1000 for a laptop

Can you call for free using Hangouts on Android? Ive never even opened the app up. Ive used Viber for international calls and texts, from Canada to Australia. Does anyone really need free domestic calls now? PRetty much every major carrier includes free domestic calls and texts, event hough most customers dont want or need it. The only smartphone plan I know of is a (hidden) Tmobile/Walmart plan that offered 1oo minutes, unlimited text, and 5gb of high speed data for only $30

Guess this is before the 5C and ios7 was released because it seems a lot of people are complaining about this (I dont know why or how this happens every time a new iOS version is released). I have plenty of iPHone users who still wont download ios7 for these reasons. For all the Android complaints, I have a 2 year old Galaxy Nexus with the latest Android version and never had any issues. ( wouldnt buy a non-Nexus Android and with rumors that a high end Nexus 5 may be under 400, it sounds like a great value for no contract plans)

The one thing I noticed right away is how stupid the naming of IPhones have been - and how confusing. More than anything I hate the whole S thing - I dont even know what the S is supposed to stand for...Special? Stupid? Super? Sucker? Sounds like we should be on Iphone 8. But Im sure by the time we get to iPhone 21S, things will be a lot better and faster...

Apple execs have said the purpose of the 5C was money. First the plastic made it a bit less expensive than the 5 to produce to higher margins considering in the past, the 5 would have been sold at this price point. Then they also didnt want consumers thinking that if they got a 5, they somehow were being c heated and got 'last years model' - This way people again are paying the same but are getting something perceived as new. And as many articles have pointed out recently, Apple gauges customers on the extra data...NO SD card so you pay an extra $100 for 32gb devices and $200 for 64gb when it costs them about $20 to add the memory. But as long as Apple people will pay, apple will continue to charge

Feels like Apple is playing the media once again. They plan for an iPHone for a year, know there is going to be huge demand and miraculously always have limited supply. It creates a media frenzy, long lines and reporters and bloggers fall for it every time. Apple video crews are at the major stores around the world shooting videos for commercials.

With IOS, when you backup everything, does it save your app games progress...ie keep your high scores, power ups, completed levels etc. At least as far as I know, I havent been able to do it with Android and that really pissed me off when I invested months completed levels and levels only to have that all erased and be forced to start from scratch as if I just installed the game

The C basically is a colored 5. But the Apple faithful will buy anything. There is something to be said about all the fragmentation from Android and all the different skins which makes it difficult for the average customers to know what Android really is. I had a Tmobile/Samsung Exhibit 2 that was such a horrendous experience, I was ready to give up on Android altogether. I complained to Tmobile and Samsung and there was absolutely no support. You also have no way of getting directly support from Android/Google (like you do with Apple)...Many repairs...and the phone would turn off and on for hours and freeze multiple times a day. I was so frustrated that just to vent I emailed the SVP of Android. He responded immediately and said this isnt what Android should be and sent me a Nexus to try. Ive been very satisfied with that but these inferior Android phones give a customer a bad experience and sent them to Apple. But also the skins make it hard to understand...I didnt know what features were Samsung vs Android and then was very confused. I have a feeling that as a Mac user, I will eventually get an iPhone (my whole family and most of my friends have one). But the 5S doesnt entice me, and I fear I will miss a lot of the features (i do use widgets and I also am addicted to Swiftkey keyboard, being able to use my own wallpapers and ringtones, and cant go back to a screen smaller than 4.5)... I also think their naming is crazy. Why keep doing the stupid S thing...Even the guy who helped Jobs naMe his devices was on Bloomberg yesterday and said it made no sense. If you want people to think its a new phone, call it a 6...5C, 5S, 4S...just crazy. So what happens to all those unsold 5 devices? Reminds me of what happened w

Why is their sizing different than every other website? Most brands try to make people feel smaller not bigger? I usually wear a M in every other brand..but on their sizing, the M is too small and the L is too big. Most M are 32-33-34 - Theyre M is 30-32 and Large 32-34 so if youre 32-33 youre in the middle and cant get a good fit either way

If the iPhone 5 is going to have better specs and be higher quality than the cheap phone (please dont call it 5S - you will be mocked in headlines), why get rid of it? Better off selling 4S in developing nations where it still would be considered a higher end phone at a value price. Maybe thats why we're not seeing huge discounts on the 5 with the 5s being announced in a couple weeks. Tmobile even just removed the 0 down for the iphone 5 which was perplexing
1 year, 7 months ago on Rumor: iPhone 5C to replace iPhone 5 with 4S remaining as the low-end option?
I saw Steve Wozniak interviewed on Bloomberg West and he said the movie was incredibly inaccurate and got a lot of facts wrong. That wasnt quite a ringing endorsement. He did say he is consulting on the other Jobs movie (think its aaron sorkin's ) and is giving them input, but he's super rich and doesnt need to skew his opinion for a few bucks. He wasnt that impressed with the acting or the movie flow either...Not impressed by Kutcher and apparently theres been friction between them but said Josh Gad did good portraying him as an actor even though the story was false.

@Kourage2 @HansKwazneski You can be the typical Apple user who hates anything Android or vice versa. But you cannot argue with facts. Hans is absolutely correct. I currently have a Mac and a Galaxy Nexus. All the features above already exist on my phone. They arent revolutionary although they may seem new and exciting to iPHone users who dont know any different. That doesnt make anyone a hater. It's just the truth. My whole family has iPhones, and Im actually considering one, but I show them features on my phone and they are shocked that these features even exist. Maybe not you, but many iPhone users had an iPhone as their first smartphone and know nothing about any other OS or their features. It just is what it is. Apple has some features that Android and Windows phones dont have, but the ones listed above are not things Android users are going to find as anything special.
1 year, 9 months ago on Cam’s Top 5: Features in iOS 7 so far…
@maeganb1971 Do they not let you opt out of that like Android does? I agree, for whatever reason, you may not want to update it.
The interesting thing about this article is that all of these are features that are already on Android phones. It does seem that when Apple adds a feature to iOS that already exists on Android, everyone gets super impressed. I get its a big deal because these features are new to iPhone users, and honestly it helps people like me who have both Apple & Android products consider switching over to Apple 100%. I still wish some more openness would be allowed. One thing Ive been using on Android for a few months now is the Swiftkey keyboard. I was skeptical of all the rave reviews I had read, but I can honestly say now that I cant live without it. Going back to a traditional keyboard would be awful. Other things Im sure I could get used to, but the predictive text saves so much time as I often have to just press one key for each word to finish my sentences
I like the Holo font on the Nexus better. Im thinking about maybe switching to an Iphone cuz I already have a Mac but I still don't see much that gets me excited to jump ships. There are benefits for sure, esp having my photos automatically download onto my Mac and just the Apple Store support. There are alot of features Id miss on my phone that I use daily. Yes the customization and yes live widgets. I have my news and weather on my phone always ready for a quick glance. I have had toggle switches in my notifications forever along with 10 of my most used apps...so I have easy access from any screen for all of those. I think what Id miss the most though is the Swiftkey Keyboard. I really had hoped Apple would open up their keyboard. For people who arent familiar, this keyboard learns from your typing and email, tweets, facebook posts, texts etc so that the more you use it, the better it gets at predicting your next word. (It also has swype-like capability but Google has that standard now on its Keyboard which anyone can download)...Swiftkey is the #1 app in like 30 countries or something so its pretty popular. I show my friends this and some of the other features and they are amazed. So I dont know. I guess its what youre used to and what ecosystem you get trapped in. I still have one foot in both - ironically, a good friend is in the opposite position where he uses an iPhone, uses a PC (cuz of work like many folks) but just bought a Samsung tablet because he didnt want to pay the expensive iPad price for what he was going to use a tablet for. Its hard to get good objective information between iPHone and a Nexus phone because most people have picked sides or websites like this one favor one over the other. At the Apple store, the employees cant even tell you what makes the iPhone special or better. Several employees told me they use Androids. Oops.

1 year, 9 months ago on 3 days with iOS 7 beta – The good, the bad and the insanely colorful
Im just curious if youve used a Nexus device with pure Android Jelly Bean. Reading your review it seems that you dont realize that most of the features you talk about are Android features. Toggle switches for every day apps - Many Android has this standard - I have an app on my notification center that not only has toggles for all of those settings, plus flashlight, camera, and 9 of my most used apps. Open apps easily seen? Ive been using that for years. The icons and type face of Holo are gorgeous. ios Still wont allow 3rd party keyboards- I dont know if I can give up my Swiftkey - and i have a mac and keep thinking of an iPHone. Im just curious because I know most of the people I know with iPHones have never even touched an Android and when I show them my phone, theyre like "wow, i didnt know a phone could do that" but just keeping an iPhone is easier. A Nexus gives you your updates too to avoid the whole fragmentation issue. I also love having my weather and battery right in my status bard 24/7...and while many make fun of widgets, and I dont use a ton, they can be very helpful. A news widget let me know about a shooting in Australia a few seconds before my friend in Australia texted me to let me know his workplace was on lockdown. Theres a great Business Insider article featuring many of the new iOS features that directly are copies of Android. You should read that and Id like to know what you think. Like I said, I keep thinking about getting an iPHone but every time I look at its limitations, I get scared that Im going to lose all the features I use daily
@popartist I dont know any iPHone users that were contemplating switching ships. Ios users are very loyal and the more a user gets deep into the ecosystem, the less likely they are to move away...Part of what Apple is doing is to try to solidify people intheir ecosystem - thats part of itunes radio - A lot of casual Android users (not power users or people who root phones or use dozens of launchers) are open to switching to iPhone...I know I am - Im just not sure what Id be missing and I wish I could have an iPhone for a month to test
1 year, 9 months ago on iOS 7 Looks Great, But Does It Offer Anything For The Android Enthusiast?
@jpb Androids fragmentation is a huge issue. Ios users can count on a new update every year - for free - and promptly...and working back to several old generations. A lot of folks I know keep their phones for 3 years...Updates if done right make a phone feel fresh even if the hardware is same ole same ole. Android gives the carriers way too much control and the manufacturers could care less about Android...they want you to buy a new device so theres no incentive for them to update phones. I wish every phone had a Nexus on/off switch. You could use the Nexus features and updates or you could use the manufacturer skin. All these different skins makes it hard for users cuz you never know what youre going to get on an Android or for casual users, what is an Android feature vs a Samsung or HTC feature...Then you switch phones are are surprised when your Android doesnt have those features you were using on your previous Android.
@TheDark_Knight I agree with you but the good thing is with Android, you can download dozens of apps that let you do it the way you want. I had an old Samsung phone but not being an expert, I didnt even know what TouchWiz was or what their features were so when I got a Nexus device, I panicked. I now use an app that not only lets me put all my toggles right on the notification screen for easy access, it also lets me put my 10 most used apps there...Its super convenient , easily accessible from any screen and I use it every day all day.
The problem with some of those other features is they just work when youre transfering something from one device to another...and youre going to find a lot more people having an iPhone that works with another iPhone than hoping everyone you run into has a Samsung Galaxy S4
I was a bit disappointed. I have a mac and a galaxy nexus and keep leaning toward getting an iPhone because everyone I know has one, I feel it might be better since I have a Mac, and I just have an inkling I eventually will so why wait? I do love the Holo look a lot more than ios. Im not sure what major changes were made that even make me look twice...and they said this is like getting a new phone without buying one so Im not expecting a 5S to impress me much either or to look any differently. Ive come to like the 4.6 inch screen and its not too big; I like some of my widgets and apps; I have something called NOTIFICATION TOGGLES - which lets me put 2 rows of common toggles and most frequently used apps on my notifcation screen and I use that every day - same with alternate keyboards which Apple still refuses (Btw, your toggle switch above looks like TouchWiz; its definitely not the Nexus look).. I really would like to see if Google comes out with a much improved Nexus by Fall...esp one with better volume controls and camera..and I wish we'd seesome major new KeyLimePie features but everyone seems to report we're getting 4.3 and not 5.0. It would also stil have to be at the 350 price point. Im not sure what to do...My gut tells me that eventually Im going to get an iPhone but right now Im not unhappy with my Nexus although I hated my previous Android phone so much ...I only gave it another try to get a lower priced phone and keep my $45 (vs 100+) prepaid phone plan. I wasnt that impressed with anything

I do find it interesting that the audience will clap for anything. When I was watching some of the maps, traffic, directions stuff - thats stuff Android and Google already do...They give alerts based on traffic or search on Google Maps and it immeidately appears on your phone...
I guess Im the only one with a mac that isnt streaming the video. Interesting on Safari its just buffering and trying to reaload while on Chrome, it says available shortly - please check back. Really frustrating considering Im one considering an iPhone for the first time
Ironically Im trying to watch the live streaming from apples website on a Mac and it died about 10 minutes ago and despite rebooting and reloading, closing Safari, etc I get no picture or sound.
I dont know why Apple doesnt; it just seems stupid. I show iOs people things like swipe or swiftkey or widgets, and theyre in shock because theyve never seen such stuff. I know a lot of people that would move to iPhone if they had Swiftkey..Personally Ive been using Swiftkey for 2 months now and am extremely disappointed in it...The prediction is not as great as they advertise or as people say. It also sucks that it will only learn from 1 email account and it has to be a Gmail. many folks use multiple emails for different purposes and believe ito r not some people still use emails that are Yahoo, AOL or Outlook
1 year, 9 months ago on SwiftKey chief wants third-party keyboards to be allowed in iOS 7
@BrandonJohnigan @TheDark_Knight I dont think the general consumer even knows what a Nexus or Nexus edition is and will be very confused. Like you said on contract, theyre going to choose the 199 version - why pay full price and then not get an ATT subsidy - and the phones arent even available on Verizon or Sprint. But for what you get, most people would agree a $350 Nexus4 was a great value yet most people dont know about it or that they can get it directly from Google. The question is with Samsung and HTC selling Nexus editions, what if anything will the next official Nexus look like? Will it have LTE and a better camera and will it still stay at that value $350 price which makes it unresistable
1 year, 10 months ago on Midweek Poll: Should Every Android Phone Manufacturer Offer A "Google Edition" Option?
My question is who are these Google Edition phones targeting? The general public or developers? Google doesnt seem to advertise them to the public; if so a $350 nexus 4 would be very popular (although I guess users are limited to aTT and Tmobile...and if you have to pay full price, it seems pointless to pay ATT rates and not get a subsidy)...What I dont understand is why all these manufacturers dont have a skin that can be turned on or off. Give the customer choice - Isnt that what Android is supposed to be? Ive always read that the skins were to differentiate the different brands of Android...so let the user decide. If they like Blinkfeed or TouchWiz or Sense, they can use it. If they don't or want quick Android version updates, let them turn it off. Do that for all phones and it solves the problem...and maybe if everyone were on a Nexus version, the fragmentation would end. I know Android is designed to be open but sometimes I wish it would be the same OS or at least very similar on all phones. The casual user becomes confused and isnt even sure what exactly is Android when every phone operates differently and it makes it even harder to switch phones...and makes me more and more think I should make the switch to IPHone and simplify my life
The main question which wasnt mentioned above is the PRICE. 4.3 inch screen is plenty big enough for most people ...itseems to have many of the same features while the S4 has been crticized for too many gimmicks that most people would never use...so the main question is the price...especially off contract whether prepaid or with Tmobile

Looks more like an Android. I dont like the stock ios icons like calendar, weather, email, appstore and other things with those little red numbers in the corner. I also hate that blue white and typeface used all over. I dont know why but it bugs me. I really like the clean Holo that Google launched. Its strange how sometimes your gut instinct with cosmetic things can affect your decisions. I just get an aversion to the way ios currently looks and a new design could make me switch to iOS as I have a Mac and have been looking for reasons to do so. For now, I like some of the Android features although it would be easier to have everything sync seemlessly and one of my biggest frustrations with Android is the hassle of switching phones...especially losing all progress in games and having to manually redo so many of my apps because they dont get saved to an account. I HATE IT.
