@ginidietrich @catrinasharp ha - with the upcoming holiday, I couldn't help it.
@ginidietrich @lizreusswig because they have halloweenies!
@ginidietrich @lizreusswig What did the fish say when he ran into the wall? Dam.
@ginidietrich @lizreusswig Why can't ghosts have babies?
This is a smart concept for sales people to pick up anyway! Throw your audience a curve ball by knowing what they are tweeting about or sharing their content. In the most non-stalkerish way, know about what they want to talk about and they won't use all those "objections" you are taught to overcome. If you show that you care, there will be less of those silly objections. If I'm not the decision maker, I'm more willing to pass you along because you aren't trying to spit out an elevator pitch before I can get a word in. ha, I'm so glad I saw @ginidietrich's tweet a few minutes ago. This is great venting! haha
@ginidietrich @RebeccaTodd @belllindsay (trying not to picture a flesh grab). I think the more you know before hand definitely matters. It shows that you care about their interests, their business and you took time to understand what their needs possibly could be. I see it just like a job interview. Know before you go!
@TomMartin I find it very difficult to convince the "sales guys" or those with the mentality that cold calls "works" to use social media and to connect with prospects without shoving a sales pitch in their face. I find it very .. frustrating and challenging. Any suggestions on talking/motivating that person that has been cold calling the past 25 years and "it works"?
@jonmikelbailey @TomMartin I think it depends on the chemistry of the group. Some I find valuable and some I just find salesy and it is like "speed networking" in multiple infomercials. Headache! But I assume that if you make one or two valuable relationships, they are worth it.
@belllindsay @TomMartin @ginidietrich I love the humor that exists in the SpinSucks livefyre chats. I need them more often in my life.
@TomMartin @ginidietrich Actually, I am very picky about my toothpaste. Good point.
I'm late to the party but I'd like to say that I love this topic, hate cold calls & cannot wait until companies truly understand how important learning more about and connecting with the buyer is! I hope it comes sooner than later! Okay.. now to catch up!
Love the ideas in this article. Do you suggest creating the script ahead of time or letting the person speak freely? Or - maybe a little bit of both? I find it hard to get get co-workers comfortably in front of a camera.

@belllindsay @djwaldow I'm not certain I found this answer yet! Still searching..

@yvettepistorio @djwaldow @superdumb Me too! It is frustrating to work with those that think and act otherwise. Chaos ensues.
@djwaldow @belllindsay this can happen!
What about those emails with subject lines like "I'm sorry I sent you the wrong.." or "Whoops!" or "My mistake"... as a consumer they drive me nuts! I assume it is a form of re-mailing but I never open them to find out. Are those legit ways to get people to open, read and click through your emails? I am very curious about this. If this is legit, I will be just as shocked as the "ugly emails are okay" concept. It still bothers me.
@djwaldow @yvettepistorio I need to pay more attention to this. I hate CAPS! I'll be shocked if I search my email and I opened it. However, at this point you are a trusted brand so from a consumer's point of view, I just open it. I guess that is our goal, to share relevant content to have our consumers trust us, know our name and open our emails, even the subject line is in CAPS. Good Question Yvette.
@yvettepistorio @DwayneAlicie @djwaldow @catrinasharp I want to sign up for West Elm then.. ha! I love brands that do that well. Inspiration!
@BobtheGreenGuy I only forward to a friend if there is a coupon or really awesome content. I do not typically use the "forward to a friend" button though. I just use my email client.
@djwaldow @yvettepistorio Here it is! @Howie Goldfarb
@BobtheGreenGuy @djwaldow @belllindsay Thank you for this question and answer! I am downloading Pocket after my iOS 7 updates!
@belllindsay @Howie Goldfarb @ginidietrich @djwaldow As a user, I like the gmail tabs. Sometimes I just want to look at the important stuff and sometimes I want to look through promotional stuff. 90% of the time I read it on my iPhone without the tabs.
As a marketer, I'm not super worried because we have to be prepared for change. It will happen. We have to be versatile, learn to work with it and trust that our handy dandy email providers are keeping up. I've already received 3 emails about it from mine.
I'm also very, very, very tired of hearing complaints about the new gmail tabs. I also believe this question was asked during the Q & A but I will check to see if it was answered!
So - are we still trying to beat a comment record? I can't wait to think of MORE questions to ask.
Is there a livefyre app? I have to go to lunch...
@BobtheGreenGuy @djwaldow @catrinasharp I had a venti soy latte - I think I have too many browsers open, updates are a little slower than real time.
I hope I can read this conversation later. I'm a little lost ha.
@BobtheGreenGuy @belllindsay @djwaldow mhmmm do hangovers matter when you are on a deserted island? Beer.
@djwaldow @belllindsay is wine allowed?
@djwaldow @catrinasharp @belllindsay yes! I would be great to have modes.. so you can watch the most favorited/promoted comments or you can watch the most recent comment feed. AND if they are ambitious.. just your activity..
@yvettepistorio @belllindsay I hate it when I get captcha wrong because the font is crazy. Makes me feel a little sad.
@belllindsay Me too. It is like a scavenger hunt.
@yvettepistorio I remember being pretty WOWed by the "email is not dead" presentation at Vocus Demand this summer... @djwaldow the numbers presented are crazy. I don't remember them though... Someone here might.
@djwaldow @belllindsay oh sorry - I didn't see that answer. They should have a widget that is like a sidebar that moves like a twitter feed, would be easier to track! If they have one already, I didn't know!
@belllindsay do you feel like you are being ignored? ha
@djwaldow @superdumb I open every HARO email!
@djwaldow @yvettepistorio What @belllindsay said.
@djwaldow @yvettepistorio I'm guilty of these. I think it is hard because you constantly want to compare your metrics to others to make sure you are doing all the right things and evaluate areas you should adjust. From what I am hearing & reading is that you should focus on your list and what works best for that.
@jasonkonopinski @djwaldow yeah! and it can get REAL crazy in the analytics. Good point, Jason.
@djwaldow @catrinasharp If you can get it under 140 characters! ha ha yes of course
@djwaldow @belllindsay And if SpinSucks has one, I am certain I will love that one too! :)
@djwaldow We do that because that is what we have always done. I feel that it is better to send when there is awesome content or useful information to share.
What resource would you recommend to 'check' or compare your open rates to? There are suggestions with the different email providers but is there a higher power that tracks email open rates?
Does it REALLY matter if you send a monthly newsletter at the same time and date every month? I find it hard to do because what happens in the world & industry doesn't really revolve around the newsletter that goes out on the 5th. Ideally, you would think that content matters more but maybe reader behavior suggests they expect it to happen? Is that real life?
@djwaldow Thank you! yes, it helps.
side note: no, but I might "Google" it in 5 seconds.
@djwaldow I'd like to present the idea of the company newsletter to be less about our updates - more about how it could help them and provide outside links that would be helpful to the readers as well.
@BobtheGreenGuy @belllindsay Ha! Bob, I did the same thing at first, thinking there was a link to a video. You are not alone! If that makes you feel any better.
Woot! Woot! Looking forward to this!
