I don't care if his Corsi was 90%. That is why that stat is so flawed...if anyone watches that tape and walked away feeling good putting him in again, I would be shocked.

Faceoffs are an every year issue and it just feels like a lack of effort.  Faceoffs can be who wants it more...am I off or do you just feel like a little more effort and we will at the least tie the opposing center up and allow Nash/Kreider to win the wing puck battle.  There is nothing more frustrating then getting blasted in the FO dot EVERY night!!

@rangermom @Hotfreak Yes but when a forward sees a dman with the puck and in control they no longer look to pick up the man in the slot.  They expect an NHL dman will get the puck out of make a safe play and not put it in the slot.  You don't want your forwards to keep covering a guy when your d has complete control of the puck...those plays we 100% on Kostka.

@KevinTheNYRBlog @Say my Name I love AV system but every player does not need to be speed speed speed...you need some size and Malone fits and looked great with JT Miller.  If not with Miller agree 100% the Hagelin/Brass/Zucc line is NO BUENO!!!! You can't have small with smaller and smallest....need a Pouliot type out there to assist that line not Hagelin.

I am so tired of hearing Corsi, thanks for posting how a lot of good teams do not have a great corsi and still thrive.

Of course the kings are good, they have young players making low money so they can afford to keep and their top players.  The key is a cap world is your young cheap talent making a big impact.

Love Brad Richards the leader and person off the ice.  On the ice just not at that level anymore.  I see some posts saying Islanders and I think that is the perfect fit.  Islanders are so young they need someone to get in that room and lead it.

They can get him for 2-3 million per year it pays for itself in how he effects those kids.

For anyone that does not think this contract is killer go to cap geek.com and do armchair GM.

Buyout richards and try to get fill this team up with a cup contender.  I am struggling to do it, unless of course our prospects all become STUDS in the same year and make up for this deal.  Conner Allen, Kristo and lindberg/Fast better be ready to play huge roles next year.

My biggest problem with Sather is he actually played this one perfect and had the chance to not lock up a huge payroll slot on a third liner (that can play 2nd line minutes if needed) and solid PKer and heart guy.  Fans were all for get what you can and move on.

Instead he gives in.  Callahan will need to put up at least 60 plus points a season to justify this deal and he never has when he was young and fresh....hope I am wrong but this core is not made for a cup and that is the problem.  A ton of cap space locked up and not a cup favorite.

You add Kesler at 6'2" 200 pounds Statsny 6 foot 200.  I mean when you say add muscle do you mean a power forward that scores or a tough 4th liner.

You are not finding many power forwards in the open market better then Kesler.

I am ok with making those moves and having to find a big 3rd/4th liner, then paying cally and not having the money for statsny or kesler because of that contract.

Playing GM for a day I pull the cally offer off the table- 6 years 6 million per for 40-50 point 3rd line player- No thanks.

I make that offer and go get Kesler.  Stepan/Kristo/1st if they take it is a solid move.

Buyout Richards and offer and go get Paul Statsny.

Rangers go from weak down the middle to a cup contender with 2- #1 centers.

Best Case for Rangers- 5 year deal in the 8 million per range= $40 million.  Best case for Hank was become a free agent and 2-3 teams battle and he gets a max year and max contract or close to it (8 years 9.5 per)

So hank gave up a year and Rangers got some relief in the per year cap hit.

Win/Win in my opinion.  It is called a negotiation for a reason.  Both sides move off their best case scenario.

In a salary cap world the Patriots have it correct.  You pay for expected preformance and not past preformance.  Pats are known for using players up and then letting other teams give them the huge deal on the downside.

I can see it now in 4 years GRONK presser with a 3rd new Jets coach and the pats laughing all the way to another AFC Crown.

I know this is not football but if hanks want 8 year 80 million dollar deal he has to go, let another team pay for 4 great years and 4 on the decline.

Sadly I like what MDZ can bring to the game, but if they gave up on him and he turned into a stud offensive dman..there is no way NYR can be blamed.

Zubov lead the damn team in scoring the year they WON THE FNG CUP...not lead dmen in scoring the whole damn team!!!!!  I hate Neil Smith for that trade and rangers havent had a PP QB since!!! Yes that trade bothers me and MDZ traded would not compare to that awful move!!!!

I also do not think MDZ will or is learning.  I mean to say he did not deserve more then one game benching shows me he is not watching the same game I am.  Rangers have given up 3 total goals since he has been out and the defensive play is better.  WAKE UP MDZ and take your medicine and learn, play responsible you will play.

AV failed at management 101.

No problem stating the obvious, but it should have gone like this, hank let in a soft one on that one, but he bounced back and that save on Jagr kept us in the game.  I will take one soft one for all the ones he stops that he should not have.  He keeps us in games every night.

For every negative give a couple positives.

I was actually thinking the same thing last night.  Hank has to stop that goal, but I noticed 2-3 times last night he just coasted on the backcheck and did not skate all the way back and get in a good defensive position.  Something I am sure the tape will show and will be corrected.

While I agree with you paying hank max money would be a bad move, Hank is huge for this team and you are comparing him to the top 5 goalies in the league and if we lose hank we are not getting one of those top 5 in return.

Ask a team like the islanders if they would pay extra for a goalie and you will have fans willing to line up and pay him directly.

As long as Hank is willing to take a hometown discount deal you have to sign him...he wants UFA max money sign a dependable veteran and play him and Talbot 40 games each and use that money to get more offense.

Another reaason is the prices are so high season ticket holders have to sell alot games at a profit to afford tickets.  Very rare to have the same people in each section every night.

I remember back in the day a friend of mine gave me his tickets to a game and almost everyone in the section asked where he was.  Each time he gave me his seats, for face value I might add, same group in the same seats with the same chants of Homo Larry when he got up and danced in front of our section.

I am not ripping Dorsett, I actually just thought it was ironic the one reason he was out there was to make sure nothing occured.  It was hilariuos watching him try to get away from Mcdonald and the linesman.

I just mean that was a huge spot for him, and he would have won over a ton of fans if he got away from them.

Watch again....he was at the bottom of the screen trying to get where Richards was...after it calmed down he was escorted off...so maybe you should look again.

You don't get 10 minutes for skating off the ice hand in hand with a linesmen.

I think Richards see's torts face telling him he was not playing in the playoffs last year.  He is using that every workout and every game.

Even year 1 with Richards I was a little shocked at how he played as it did not impress...playoffs were a different story.

But this is the Richards I expected the last 2 years, he is smooth and controlling play instead of looking slow and disinterested.

Also brings up the question how long and how much do you pay cally next year?

With his style of play (same question can be said about Girardi) and month long injuries every year it seems, this guy will be a walking wounded in year 5 of any deal.

I know he must be re-signed, but man this throws up red flags about him playing a full year.

yes but in an uptempo system where D are asked to pinch and make offensive plays, there will be more times that this will occur with Hank.  he needs to make a couple of those saves he is left out to dry.

Mike Smith made those 2-3 point blank saves when his D broke down and it changed the momentum right back to Phoenix.

This system Hank needs to be better.

I am getting nervous that Hank could be a system goalie.  it can only help a goalie if the D and Offense collapse and block 50% of the shots coming in.  Now he is seeing better scoring chances  as AV wants Dmen to jump into the play.

It is early and we will see, but preseason and game 1 making me a little nervous with Hank.

I love hank but it just does not make sense if he wants 8 years at 9-10 million a year.  it is fine for right now, but when he is 36 in a few years you will not have a way to get out of that contract, like we just did Richards.

Go to capgeek.com as next years team can be reviewed on the cap calculator give hank 9.5 million, cally and girardi fair deals and see how quick that money is gone.  That is even with a Richards Buyout

From SNYRANGERS BLOG:

According to a note from the 2006 tournament, a team can have a maximum of four players who have at least one-year of pro experience and all players must be 23 or younger.

Andrew Yogan and Kyle Jean both played in Hartford last season and the rules probably stipulate that Oscar Lindberg and Jesper Fast be categorized as pro players since they were in the Swedish Elite League.

Sather is doing exactly what the Rangers always do

Defenseman tend to get longer deals instead of bridge contracts and forwards seem to get bridge deals.  Obviously this is not a rule, but look at Staal also.  Sather doing the same thing with Staal and Dubi as he is doing with MCD and Stepan.

The trade off...Brad Richards kept on board or buy him out and get a Vinny Lecaviler/Briere type that is bought out, or even a UFA center and Clowe for 3 million per year on 2-3 year deals.

I like the 2 players at 3 million a year for 2-3 years over the risk of Richards injury and can't buy out next year.

There is no reason to have Boyle and Halepern in the same game. They are similar players (good faceoff, slow players, good Pkers)...they bring no more and no less. Put one on the 3rd line and one of the 4th and it is 2 lines that dont score. Add to that Richards lost and Nash out...we are back to one line team. Once Nash is back they MUST bench one of the 2 (maybe alternate each game) and get back to the Nash/Step/Hags, Richards/Gabby/Pyatt and then a young fast buzzing line of Cally/Miller/Krieder. That 3rd line may not score but it not a line the other team does not need to worry about putting any pressure on.

Lack of toughness? That is Asham's job...I will take the lineup last night vs Tampa every game. Let the other team dressed less talented goon types to be tough. That type of hockey is done. If there is an issue, send Asham out a couple shifts with the top lines and have him send a message. The days of dressing 2-3 goons a game are long gone in the NHL.

GNR line must be broken up.  Richards is an absolute waste on that line.

Nash and Gabby control the puck way to much for Richard to have an impact.

Torts really needs to adjust to these top talent players.  There is no way a line with Nash and Gabby should be worried about playing stellar DEFENSE to get ice time.

They need to play the pointmen and look for breakouts and not play safe.

Give up a few 3 on 2's to gain a ton of chances and put other teams on the defensive.

We have possibly the best goalie in the league...he needs D help but he does not need 5 guys below the face off circle every shift.

I really feel when Callahan comes back it is time to move Richards to his center ice and put Stepan between Nash/Gaborik.

Nash and Gaborik feed so well off each other and Nash frees up so much ice for him...but they play so much with the puck, they do not need a stud center to play off them.  Richards does need to be with those 2 and maybe he can jump start the 2nd line.

So you are comparing an entire team and a coach to one player...and still coming up with more hits and examples of that one player beating them...I think that kind of proves a point doesn't it?

I think everyones problem with Sydny is he gets a ton of calls because of who he is (I also know he gets calls because of his talent at holding the puck and forcing penalties he is that good).....but it seems like there is a missed call against him and the looks at the ref and complaining come.

I think if he just let them go once in awhile and understood calls are missed and it will more then even out because of who he is...nobody would care.    It does not help that he has 2 blatant calls against him go uncalled last night and it just infuriates people.

Beside the GNR line not many.  Hank- stuggling a little (but that is me being spoiled), Cally/Step/Boyle etc...all playing a step behind.  If they start to play the way they are expected to play it will all fall into place.

One concern I have is...is Hagelin as good as we all think?  I am getting more and more concerned about him every game.  Oh and can we stop the stupid planned fights every night?  Save the fight for when Gabby is run and pinned to the boards with a high hit..that is when it has meaning.
