Thanks for expanding on that Matticus, very interesting. In my guild we expect everyone to get their own flasks, gems and enchants as well as food. We use the raid drop mats for raiders at no charge generally at a first come first serve basis when they have the mats for that crafted piece or they get that weapon drop. What does supplement this all are all the guild bank donations that frequently happen, people plop in gems, crafting mats, pots, and food on a pretty regular basis and raiders have access to use those donations.
For us its worked pretty well so far, and when someone starts to slack off a little passive aggressive nudging in their direction by their peers usually does the trick :)

Could you expand on the "augments for players" section? I've alway been interested in the spectrum of policies from raiders get their own stuff to raid leaders getting all consumables, etc. for the raid. Where do you stand on this? Does it depend on where the power position is where raid leaders feel they have to provide for raiders or else they will go elsewhere vs raid leaders that have raiders to choose from and don't mind telling raiders to be responsible for getting their own consumables / enchants?

As the druid that pretty much does all the combat rez-ing in our guild I kinda disagree too. I guess my experience in combat rez-ing is that there's two kinds, the guy that's a slacker or just can't cut it and the other is every once in a while bad stuff just happens and someone dies. Like you say, I do have my own "do not rez list" and those people in the first group fit squarely in there and I'm more than happy to finish the boss attempt with nine going and them just staying dead, I do not rez them. Its that 2nd group which I find the spell invaluable at just saving time in raid. Every once in a while stuff just happens and good players make mistakes and that what I find the combat rez useful for, to essentially smooth out the "player RNG" and keep on trucking.
The combat rez becomes even more valuable in 5mans and PUGs where people are more likely to be idiots and or do stupid things. It gives us a chance to save time, and protects me from their stupidity when their actions caused someone else's death.

@Kamali "but it seems most of the raiding community is up in arms" Where are you getting this? Most of what you hear online is from a very small and vocal minority, and more than half the people that claim to care about something won't ever have it affect them.

Wasn't this gating done as far back as sunwell? Weren't the last half of the bosses there gated? The whining is just for whining sake.
the altaholic addon keeps you informed of all other character emails and even warns you if an email on an alt is about to expire.
