Yay! You should also play the sequel. I think it has a little less charm, but a lot of what it does have is really interesting, like its Chapter 3.

@JoshuaCaleb75 Thank you for taking the time to make sure that I understood what you meant. I did. I like the way that grinding allows me to choose how challenged I am by the next area, & how long it takes me to get through the game. I like to see how little grinding I can get by with, & have a whole 'nother play-through to see how much grinding I can stand to draw things out. Grinding gives a game replay value for me. Grinding gives me time to explore different fighting styles. It allows me to create my own balance & pace & experience. It's one of the reasons I love rpgs so much more than platformers! I can respect that you don't like "mindlessly wandering" & understand how you can see it that way, but it's not mindless to *my personal play style* & I value it. Yay diversity!

I would play RPG Simulator.

I feel like if I don't have to do any grinding, the game is too easy. When it's too easy, it feels like just a story. When it feels like just a story, I'll go read a book or something.

Am I the only person who likes grinding?

Also, I have an answer to toss in for the listener discussion question. I tried to play one of my husband's xbox 360 games, I think it was Bioshock 2... & during the very first part of the game they're all hand-holdy & explaining all of the different things to you... they give you some electric shocker thing... it's super fun, you start zapping everything in sight... then you have to use it on the door to proceed with the game... now that you've spent all of the electric ammo whatever... & there's nothing to reload it... THE END.

I find it hard to understand how this same sort of game can keep being made (& being so intensely popular!), especially within the same series. I can understand wanting to have a game or two of this type in your collection, for if that mood strikes, but how can anyone see the idea as still being fresh? The only way that seems to appear to try to push things forward is, as you say, pushing more awful stuff into these games.

I enjoy the retro gaming community because we can play games together at the same time on the same screen. It's a totally novel concept.

But seriously. I love that gamers are such a diverse bunch of folks, but they overall seem to enjoy & embrace that fact instead of judging each other for it. You can be having a heated discussion one minute over vastly differing opinions, & then the next moment be celebrating a common interest or experience.

Love talkin' about The Rock. Recently my husband made a comment about me not liking Michael Bay (...I'd said something didn't have enough explosions or something), & I was like "WHAT! Not true!" & he said well I hated Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is very true, but--- oh, sorry, rambling.Ooooh, the BOOK Jurassic Park. Classy.

BATMAN. Man, this episode is full of great tangent-topics.

Why do none of the choices this week have tank legs? I want tank legs.

I play first person shooters for the story... because otherwise they are SO DULL.

& then you reveal the existence of Jurassic Park IV. Good job, guys, listening to this is a fun way to spend an hour of Bailey's birthday.

@NintendoLegend  linked me to this article via twitter, with a reference to an old Toys R Us commercial. Their commercial was basically saying that having to get a raincheck for something for your kid was not cool, but don't worry, because they'll have what you want in stock. Well, the year of that commercial, one of the items highest on my wishlist was Pokémon Yellow. & what was waiting for me under the tree? A raincheck from Toys R Us, for Pokémon Yellow! Ahhhhh, good times. We had a few laughs re-enacting the commercial. (& of course I had lots of fun with my game when I finally got it!)

...I will also mention that the very first game I ever wanted for my very own (as opposed to just playing my brother's) was Harvest Moon, which I had read about in Nintendo Power. That was a great Christmas gift as well.

Ahhh man, I can always find these little moments where Bailey says something & his argument could totally be ripped to shreds. I KNOW YOUR WEAKNESSES, BAILEY.

If anyone is reading comments & hasn't voted yet... Jason almost got a chance to talk about the interesting gameplay opportunities allowed by his game, but the others got caught up in other things of course. He was going to tell you that you don't have to build a utopia; you can build whatever you want & see what happens. (If he wasn't, well, you can't prove that, & he could have easily justifiably done so...)

Besides, you know who cares about creating a well-run city? BATMAN. SimCity 2000 is the closest entry this week to getting to pretend that you are Batman....okay, I'll stop now.

Also totally a real thing: ornaments & presents getting confused. I got a watch one year, totally had to open it to find out if it was an ornament or my present. (...it was a Lion King watch. Lion King was a huge deal, remember that?) Man, we have some weird holiday stories. Like the time I wanted a Furby for Christmas (...no regrets...), & @NintendoLegend  got one? We mostly just laughed about it.
