@Cameron19 I think the biggest problem is that unless we draft really well, the only way we fix that #1 centre issue is if we trade away a major asset or two. Who would you take out of the line up in order to plug that hole? Does it open another big hole elsewhere?
The only possible option I see is trading a rielly, gardiner, or phaneuf + bozak to make it happen.

Personally I wouldnt't mind having 4 skilled centres in our lineup. Nice balance.

@DeclanK @Bryan93 If it were up to me I would only be trading Phaneuf straight up for the #3. If we move the #8 as well then clarkson would have to be going to edmonton.

Wow, a lot of phaneuf hate. Jesus you guys are fucking impossible.

@WendelBark @TuckerForPunishment I would understand disagreeing, but really, "who cares"? Excuse me, but thats exactly why this country is headed straight down the fucking toilet.

Can i just mention that it was the second game in two nights, before everyone forgets? Just puts into perspective some individual fuck ups late in the game.

@lucjen75 JESUS! maybe its cause we overplayed him ...
@CanuckUKinToronto every year this happens... someone starts leading the way in goals or points (kadri last year, macarthur the year before, kulemin the year before that), and people say are ready to crown them the new king. EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. In the end kessel gets the most goals and points.
10 months, 1 week ago on GDT: Edmonton Oilers at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., CBC)
@Cameron19 @.JVR. Thats a bit of a stretch ... I would say that varlomov got them off to a good start and now its time for Giguere to clear the cobwebs. 1 in 4 games just seems like the logical number for him at this point.

And regardless, thats still tied for the most shots in the game. Also, no they weren't just peripheral chances, they were decent chances he worked for himself, and others noticed and commented on it during the broadcast. I admit the second game he was perhaps a little off. I just don't agree with your two game assessment.

@Greg Fenton @J_hardt @theacs1966 @Xxxxxnew I said shots, not shots on goal. They mentioned it on the broadcast after the game.
@-Keon- @dlb eh Holz means wood, not forest ... but close enough. Holzer would most likely have meant something like lumberjack back when it was used. Source: am german.
@Knights2Leafs @J_hardt @Greg Fenton Haha, i'm glad someone else was thinking it.
@Greg Fenton @theacs1966 @Xxxxxnew are you serious? He had something like 14 shots in the first game.
@moimoi You should be able to full screen it anyways, with the media player still there.

@moimoi There's a little tiny x on it that you aren't seeing. They always try and hide them.
@Belfour20 @Yaknowwhat @Alec Brownscombe That sounds like you are trying to stir up shit. Fucking hugely speculative.
@colino17 @J_hardt @-Keon- Seems ridiculous that they wouldn't take into consideration what is in the best interest for the development of the player...

@B_Leaf @Burtonboy @-Keon- So just to be clear, there is no way rielly can play for the marlies?
@-Keon- Ah, ok.
@Burtonboy @B_Leaf @-Keon- really?
@B_Leaf @J_hardt @-Keon- Am I really the only one who knows about this?! I thought this was common knowledge, but maybe I'm completely off my fucking rocker.
@B_Leaf @J_hardt @-Keon- special scenario with the shortened training camp.
@-Keon- yeah normally that's the case, but if you make him play a certain number of nhl games, that essentially negates that rule.
@-Keon- As far as i know, it can be. He just needs to burn his first year of ELC by playing 10 games with the big club.
Anyone else like the idea of burning the first year of Rielly's contract by letting him play 10 games with the club, and then sending him down to the marlies? I feel like it's the best environment for him to mature in, especially playing with potential future leafs in finn, percy and granberg. I really get the feeling that rielly is the type of player that signs a long term contract with the leafs regardless.
@Ze_theLeafsFan always follow this rule
1 year ago on <!--:en-->Dog Day Musings: Thoughts by Position and a little on the Marlies<!--:-->
@MaxwellHowe @J_hardt @Black_Hawk You're probably right. The first priority of management will be to get Kadri, Franson, and Fraser all signed. Once they've done that I'm assuming they will take their time to look at the cap situation, and see what trade options are available, and would make sense to the team.
@Pent_House @Black_Hawk Yeah I think that at the end of the day what he really wants is a one way contract, thats greater than or equal to 1 mil.
@Black_Hawk If he gets 2m then we can't walk away so we'd have to trade him. With something like 9 fights last season, and a great plus/minus, I'd rather get rid of liles. The great thing about our defence is that every single pairing will have someone who's at least 6'3 and intimidating... meaning that in each scrum after the play there will be at least one player for the opposing team to watch out for if they want to fuck around with our players.
@Dan39 I would agree, except that Bigg's stock is falling fast. I think he's stagnated a bit, but those types of forwards take time to develop.
@Zep2 @Radar O'Rielly I don't think you can walk away unless the award is over 3.5 million.
@dlb eh @vji67 Agreed. This team is already short on quality right handed defenders. Franson needs to stay.
1 year ago on <!--:en-->On Scoring Chances and other things<!--:-->
@rustynail @J_hardt @dlb eh @Jmessih @JMAC17 Very true, but I think he'll get more than a million as well, which would be shitty for our cap situation if he went back down to the marlies.
@dlb eh @Jmessih @JMAC17 @J_hardt Yeah it would have to be by trade, since they can't walk away from an arbitration award thats less than 3.5 mill ... and fraser isn't getting that. So basically he's staying a leaf unless he's traded.
@Jmessih @dlb eh @JMAC17 @J_hardt Well there you go. So it is virtually impossible that he has been in contact with st. louis.
@JMAC17 @J_hardt @dlb eh Uh, they present you with the offer sheet, and you look at it? Either you like the term and the money offered or you don't. I'm under the impression that they aren't allowed to actually talk to the player like in a normal negotiation.
@dlb eh @JMAC17 I think so ... I don't even think RFAs are allowed to talk to another team. The only thing they can do is sign an offer sheet. I could be wrong, but this info seems suspect.
@JMAC17 wouldn't that be illegal?
@Jmessih I agree with finn, but I think it would be a pretty big surprise if gauthier makes it ... especially with it being held on international ice this year.
1 year, 1 month ago on <!--:en-->What to Expect: David Clarkson<!--:-->
@Jordan29 I agree except that it might be prudent to get rid of liles based purely on the fact that he and Phaneuf, Gunnarsson, Gardiner, Fraser, Rielly are all left handed .... Maybe blacker is due for a looksie, just based on that. Looks like it might still be a playoff capable D. Two offensive lines, with a nice shutdown/tough line with fraser and blacker.
Phaneuf - Gunnarsson
Gardiner - Franson
Fraser - Blacker
@Greg Fenton @B_Leaf @J_hardt Fair point, but you could say the same for bergeron. If he hadn't extended with the bruins he could have gotten a lot more as a UFA.
1 year, 1 month ago on <!--:en-->Four for Friday: Kovalchuk, Colborne, Gunnarsson and Franson<!--:-->
@Irishfanman @J_hardt @Uncle Otis Apparently he's also schenn's, doughty's, and parise's agent. Fuck.
@J_hardt I think dion resigns at the same number as well if kessel gets 7. Sort of a suter, parise type scenario, where we lock up our two big stars for the next decade.
@Uncle Otis @J_hardt yeah I think you're right in that 6.5 does seem just a tad to low. I think you just need to add the extra 500,000 to get a nice ring to the number. I think kessel's agent could call it a win @ 7 mil for 8 years.
I know he has some injury history, but If bergeron at 6'2 age 27 with - 60-70 points per season, 60% faceoff wins, a selke award winner in 2011-2012, selke nominee 2012-2013, gold medal winner with team canada in 2010, and first line center of a stanley cup winning team, gets 6.5 million x 8 years ... I think that should set a good precedent for kessel, no?
@Xxxxxnew He's going to get his first full off season training in quite a while I believe (he was always injured before) ... Not that off season training makes miracles happen, but it could be a significant difference maker not only in performance on ice, but more importantly strength training for injury prevention.
1 year, 1 month ago on <!--:en-->With the bulk of the storm over, where do the Leafs stand?<!--:-->
@Jordan29 @MaxwellHowe I think he wants to be here since he's found success under carlyle, both personally and as a team. It was under ron wilson that he wanted to bail.
1 year, 1 month ago on <!--:en-->Are the Leafs any better after two weeks of mayhem?<!--:-->
@Yaknowwhat @MaxwellHowe yeah i think he could definitely get 4 mill somewhere. Im hoping him and kadri just do 3.5 for two years though.
