Yeah, VCs that take this approach have seen their value add is diminishing in comparison to the Fred Wilson's of the world. Really all that VCs like this add is $$ and credibility with old guard (and who in Tech really cares about the old guard?). If they rely exclusively on referrals and gate keepers, they def aren't the first money in a deal anyways, and LPs should realize they aren't doing their job in the first place (i.e. finding good proprietary deal flow).

@BTrautschold @chrisamccoy There's also a strong need for overarching "belief" in an ecosystem by all the players involved. Like startups, there's a huge premium for just going and doing instead of planning and analyzing. See a need, fill a need.
