Kevin, I think you are wrong: "I know Lundqvist loves the Rangers and New York, but from observing him during his eight years on Broadway, I can confidently say he loves winning more than both."
He loves NY, Rangers, and winning, equally. You think he'd be more happy losing in Raleigh? He's always said that the difference between the worst and best teams are not that big. Rangers will be a contender next year. And even if they lose, he'll still have NY. However, I WISH he'd go somewhere else. He deserves to win which he, unfortunately, won't do in NY.

No way Hank will play in the Swedish "B-league". It's only Frölunda for him.

As of right now, the Swedish Elite League only allow players who sign for the entire season. If this season is cancelled, it would probably be addressed in late February, however the SEL transfer window closes on Jan. 31st, so unless the SEL decides that it is OK to sign NHLers on a short term contract or whatever, no NHLer would be eligable to play in the SEL.

Also, I wonder how much Hank is working out this off season (his first in NY). Seems like he's had his hands full with other stuff (a lot more going on in NY than in Gothenburg)...

Pretty obvious that Hank would play for Frölunda if there's a lock out, since he's lived there most of his life pre New York (and he still has a huge apartment in central Gothenburg where Frölunda plays). It would be fun to hear Hank's thoughts though, since the article over at Swedish Expressen only says that Frölunda wants Hank to play for them (which every other Swedish GM would say if they got the question on which goaltender they'd have play for their team in the occasion of a lock out).

Okay, MDZ, here's D 101 for you: In a situation where you are facing a pass intended for a deflection, locking your opponents stick down to the ice is exactly what is needed for a deflection. Regaring top prospect: Swedens (in my opinion) best hockey blogger (http://hockeysverige.se/blogg/bodin) presents a list of possible breakthroughs in the Swedish Elite League this upcoming season. He lists one player per team, and for HV71 he has Jesper Fasth and for Skellefteå AIK he has Oscar Lindberg.

On Jesper Fasth: "If it wasn't for a concussion and a knee injury I probably woudn't have needed Jesper Fasth on this list. I now consider him an unpolished diamond who have all the qualifications to become a great hockey player. Fasth impressed at the NYR summer camp and he have started the European Trophy (a pre season tournament with Europes top hockey teams) by scoring 3 points (in 3 games). If he's able to stay healthy he should do the same in the Swedish Elite League too."

On Oscar Lindberg: "Skellefteå AIK is missing their given 1st line center. That could be Oscar Linderbergs jackpot. The tough two-way center is going to get much more confidence compared to last season and more opportunities to prove that he has more talent than the 14 points he scored last season. "

Without further knowledge about the other D prospects, I got really happy when I heard about this. Tim is a very skilled two way D, always in the right place on the ice. So, depending on who the NYR will give up for Tim, I really think this could be a great deal.

On a different note: According to this Swedish newspaper story http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/landslag/hockeyvm2011/article12961000.ab the Swedish goalie Viktor Fasth is being chased by the Rangers. He won the goalie of the year award last season in the Swedish Elite League where he played for AIK (Sweden's equivalent to NYR). No fire power whatsoever, clinching the last playoff spot where Fasth single-handedly beat the reigning champions 4-0. He's starting tonight in the Worlds against Austria.
