Trouble with companies like BP is not just that they sell oil, as long as we use it someone will sell it, but that they are so influential in the policy process, developing laws and regulations, seconding experts and frustrating every attempt to introduce the architecture that might move us away from oil. We need to shut them out of the decision making process, and hold them to account. Then maybe we will get government to legislate the changes we need to move on.
