I would argue that you should *not* get the minimap.
Without the minimap, you have to navigate by direction and landmarks. It's difficult at first, because we're not used to it. But it becomes so much more immersive. You're part of the world once again. You recognize areas and landmarks. You pay attention to the terrain around you, rather than a UI element.
If you just want to play a videogame in the fastest possible manner, get the minimap. If you want to be immersed in a virtual world, try playing without one.

@Ironwu Eve Online does this, and it's reasonably popular.

One thing Eve illustrates is that there is a real "asymmetry of justice" in online games. The bad player can scam you, but you cannot punish her. In the real world, a scammer can be caught and lose their liberty or life. But in most online games, players cannot effectively punish other players. They cannot jail them, they cannot permanently kill them.
Eve takes pride in it's "Wild West, anything goes" atmosphere. But another way of looking at it is that Eve deliberately coddles the outlaws, denying the sheriffs the necessary tools to impose law and order.

@wolfyseyes "That said, PvP has always been about a state of perpetual warfare and conflict instead of a win condition in my eyes."
That's what the ideal should be. But in reality, one side tends to dominate. If for no other reason than the fact that people will defect to the winning side. Or two sides end up in a stalemate and there is no real movement.
Crowfall is basically saying, "Yep, domination happens. That's fine, you win, we'll reset and try a new game".

@Wratts @Eliot_Lefebvre There's basically two paths to weapon upgrades in FFXIV: skill or time.
You can either get a high end weapon by beating some of the more difficult fights (Extreme Primals, Coils of Bahamut) or you can go for the long Relic grind. I think there's also another smaller grind for a not-quite-top-end weapon as well.
Personally, I think FFXIV strikes a good balance.

Wonder Dude will never exist. Spider-woman/She-hulk/Batgirl turns out to be a more interesting character than Spider-man/The Hulk/Batman? Great! Let's make a spin-off comic.

Alright, here's my attempt at a strat for a normal-mode guild.
1. Stay out of the water. It's a trap! Yes, you give up the buff, but you also give up a lot of potential foolishness, and minimize the movement required. So if water is spawning in one corner, move to a different one. (A heroic strategy would probably have to make use of the water buff to meet the enrage timer.)
2. If you're targeted by lightning, run to the edge of the room and let it hit you there. (I'm a little unsure of if the lightning has to hit you, or if you can kite it long enough to despawn.) This puts all the spikes at the edge of the room out of everyone's way. Plus the strat is easy. If you're targeted, turn and run to the edge of the room.
3. Don't stand too close to the pillars. From the picture of the floor, possibly that inner ring on the ground.
4. DPS the boss, task a healer to heal the spiked people, tank switch on a throw.
