@jameskovolenus We'll be shooting that Volvo wagon soon for a full feature once it's finished. It's built by the owner of this car: http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/06/a-labour-ovlov-the-turbo-bmw-powered-volvo/

@ae70 Quite a few people rock BMW V8s here - they're just an easier conversion as the parts are more accessible and much cheaper. Still plenty of LS-powered cars in this part of the world though... just none of these ones!

@Ian G We actually phased the photography programme out about a year ago now. It was great fun (and naturally we had a few complaints when it ended!) but our issue with it was that it was becoming a bit elitist in the way that only people with photography skills could participate. We wanted the programme to be more about the Speedhunting community as a whole, and since then it has evolved into these Readers' Rides stories - very much like our old 'Feature This' stories, but with a lot more detail. Thanks for your feedback though - we can see there are definitely quite a few people still interested in having somewhere to submit automotive photography and this is something we are going to address this year. :)

@yentran422 Personalised plates with these kind of abbreviated words are such a huge tradition in NZ car culture. Some of them are so stereotypical it gives me the giggles sometimes. We're only allowed 6 letters so people get really 'creative' with them…

This is more of a travel story as opposed to a car review, hence why I've tried to focus more on the incredible location :)

@zz Hmm I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you mean mobile data, we all just have tremendous phone bills! If you mean GPS navigation, generally I just always make sure I have a car with built-in GPS, but I know that some of the guys have their own Nav system they take with them when travelling.
