Nascar came to Japan in the 60's.

Honda made the Blackbird, Suzuki made the Hayabusa because the actual hayabusa hunts the blackbird in nature.

Rallying needs it just as much as F1 and WEC. A hybrid system in place of pneumatic anti lag is paramount to keeping a flat torque curve. Anti lag through pneumatics is the same as drag racing with nitrous oxide. It feels very unnatural way of making power.

Same reason the French brands lobbied the FIA to allow the 1997 change to Group A8 regulations. Citroen, Peugeot, and Renault can't make a 4wd performance car so they have to be allowed to make kit cars like the ones currently in use. During the homoligation era, besides the Ford Cosworth and Lancia Delta, only the Japanese were making homoligation specials. Thats why from 1997 forward, you could make a kit car of whatever you wanted. It makes more sense to the brand.

Having hybrid systems like in F1 and WEC would make good sense for rally cars. Using an electrical system to replace a pneumatic anti lag for the turbo sounds much more logical for street cars development and race cars of the future.

"Exclusion of driver aids, being stability and traction control and anti-lock brakes."

This poses a problem for many FIA GT3 cars made under the balance of performance structure as they are made with ABS standard.

If i recall correctly, an SLS AMG GT3 was to run the Thunderhill 25 hour but was denied entry because NASA rules prohibit the use of ABS. The team decide to withdraw the car instead of modifying it in a way it had never raced before.

Porsche was told in the middle of their 2000 LMP car development to cease so an Audi vs Porsche Le Mans battle wouldn't happen. (Ironic considering recent events) In return, Porsche would get VW money to develop the Cayenne. For this reason, Porsche tries to deny the 2000 LMP ever existed even though about 8 photos exist.

As much as i respect Audi sport, VW paid porsche to forget about Le Mans for a very long time.

Crazy story about that 1990 Porsche Indy car. Exiting the 1989 season, the Porsche powered March chassis had won it's first race at 89's Mid Ohio round. For the 1991 season, the sport's ruling body was ready to allow 100% carbon tubs but they were still giving out waivers for the 1990 season. Porsche took one of these waivers but after most of the development was complete, Penske and Carl Haas complained and the waiver was disallowed. So late in the development for the 1990 chassis, Porsche and March were back to zero on the drawing board. Therefore, the 1990 car went from being a promising chassis to being a pig.

The DeltaWIng has no classification in international sporting regulations under the FIA or the ACO.

The Deltawing was the first car run under the new "Garage 56" idea by the ACO. This allows a car representing new technologies to be demonstrated in the race. The car cannot compete for a win and lap times are regulated by the race relative to where they want it compared to other traffic.

Next year's Garage 56 car will be the GreenGT H2 Hydrogen electric racecar.
