I enjoyed your article and really like the way you've described your choice of Argentina. I agree that Argentina has been at the center of several global news stories, and I wish you luck in reporting from there, and putting together a patchwork paycheck of the odd jobs you can find. I've lived and worked in both China and Chile for most of the past seven years, and if you ever want to talk about navigating the adventure, possibilities, stress, and uncertainty, let me know :)

Yes, you've got so much here! I definitely know what it's like to have a zillion things going on, and not having the time or space to work on the things that are most important to you. I don't have a car to wash, but I can definitely identify with that impulse.

The thing is, when I have a zillion things to do, menial tasks that don't seem urgent, like giving myself a pedicure (a good one, with lotion, multiple coats, topcoat, etc...) can actually calm my frazzled brain and give me space to come up with new ideas for these big, important projects. I don't think it's self-sabotage... it can be a creative break.

Another thing that's worked for me is writing out big ideas, in an unlined notebook, first thing in the morning before touching my computer or email. That seems to ward off the ADD that creeps out as I try to do too many things at the same time...

And yes, the inner perfectionist is a horrible bitch. Not a fan! But seriously, does anyone have an awful time at a wedding? As long as there's love and good people (and drinks, of course) it sounds *perfect* to me.

Be well, my friend :)

Looks awesome! My site - - is on PageLines, and I just realized I have 1.53. So out of date! I'm updating my site and I'd like to upgrade to the new version. How exactly do I do this? How do I download the new version of the theme? I tried to figure it out myself and was unsuccessful. Thanks so much!

Congrats! This is awesome. I love all the screenshots. Kudos to you for being so specific about how you thought about your offerings at each stage.

It got me thinking about what I was doing in late 2010 (working for an ad agency in Beijing and hating it) and all that I've done since then....

So inspired. Thank you!

This is brilliant! The part that most resonated with me is that building a brand is about focusing on one big idea and guiding people so they can be part of it, talk about it, remember it, and see the potential for their own transformation through it.

I also loved the part about being unapologetically brainy. It made me think hard about what I am unapologetic about. I am unapologetically curious about a lot of different topics and mix them together in ways that others might not. China + Chile. Ethnography + sketches. Social entrepreneurship + fashion. I am also unapologetic about wrapping myself and my unique collection of experiences around whatever point I want to make. I don't believe in big generalizations about "the way" it's done. I need to edit and adapt this "this is my offer, take it or leave it" attitude.

Thank you Tara and Srini.

Guilty as charged! I've definitely found myself thinking in black and white: success / failure, action / laziness, healthy / sick, spinach+lentils / beer+french fries, etc. Thanks for reminding me that I am not alone and that it takes conscious action to truly embrace the space between black and white and move forward in this space :)
