It's a very short list. We either accept these flaws from our guy who's learning on the job.. Or we go get someone who's probably more stuck to their own system/philosophy & the flaws that come with that
The twist is: all these coaches we consider great, are ones who have won with generational talent. & prior to doing that, similar things were said about them. You have to have both. Can/will scotty be in their category or in the Doug Collins category? I wouldn't be surprised either way

Bottom line is:: okc needs a ring.. Just 1 ring
Remember the way everyone looked at bron, spoelstra, dirk, carlisle, et cetera.. Prior to them winning the chip?.... All these perspectives change with 1 championship. It's that simple
Also we are judging brooks through the lens of him becoming a coach. At the same time we have seen him with great players, while they are becoming great ... If we saw pop in the first 5 years of his coaching career what would our evaluation be?
My question & not disagreeing with you about brooks. - what coaches in the league would you rather have right now for this team?.
We would have to identify these other stupid &/or mediocre coaches & then go from there ... I think scotty is stupid often, but yet above average ... I think the average coach doesn't keep a team in contention for 5 years .. Maybe I'm naïve. Idk
Never mind. I misread your comment. & fuct that whole premise up ... My bad
For example.. George Karl is a good coach.. It's no way he would've been able to keep this bunch playing at this level.. He would have cringed at bad Russ, undermined him &/or threw him under the bus.. Then you have a whole different dynamic - in the locker room, betw players, with mgmt, how the "fans" view things, etc ..
I good give you a list of these "flaws" with the dantonis, mark jacksons, etc we can go down the line.
Brooks is flawed where he is flawed ... No question .. But I don't think many coaches would have the team together throughout all of this turmoil & injuries, & unfortunate circumstances, & scrutiny. How many coaches do you think would have this team in the playoffs this year?
I generally believe that the nature of young players is to be driven by ego + $$ .. Until they mature to a standpoint where it's about the group instead of the individual .. Actually players have even said this themselves ... I never saw harden as wanting to be a bit player, & I don't blame him. I don't see Reggie as being good enough where it really matters - he's a possible all star, he won't be a superstar in this league.
I didn't discount your criticisms of brooks .. They are well known, well documented, & very valid ... I just said you being a little loose with 2 top 5 players .. Especially when it's been debated if 1 was top 5 all the way up until 2015 ... Since he's clearly top 5 in 3/2015, it's kinda rich to use that as the reason for the success .. I also said brooks has had a recipe for success that you can't prove is the players doing, but I can assure that "good" coaches haven't had
Everyone has flaws. The ones closer to us - we see their flaws more clearly.. I'm not super pro brooks... I feel like people take him for granted, just like they take for granted okc will win 60 games.. I've seen throughout nba history where "good" coaches have mangled their teams too.. The fact that all his players ride with him, never talk down about him, his team never has locker room issues. That's a rarity in sports. & I think there's something to be said about that & how much of a factor that plays in success.
& I think he deserves a lot of credit for that.
You also made the entire convo about Russell.. I mentioned the entire team environment.
What do you think?.. I know what answer I'd give, however, You can answer that question for yourself.. I'm just offering an opinion.. An alternate pov... A "flip side" as we say ...
You seem to have your mind made up...
Your statement that "our success has more to do with having 2 of the best 5 players in the league" is no more factual than mine ... But if you like it I love it.
I never said start or play - I said develop & not micro manage...
Many people, including many dTers.. Have always felt Russ should be reigned in ... Of course now that he's MVP status we forget those times or conversations .. Or we act as if we could've reached this point with a different process ... It's all conjecture, it happened how it happened, but I am one who says the process can not be undervalued or overlooked
I think the average nba coach would not have let Russ play those minutes that saw him get this good. Or the setup would have come down to: give it to kevin & get out his way.
Russ is basically this good because brooks doesn't try to put his hands on everything that happens on the floor.
+ as I said, it's deeper than nino brown. But you went directly to X+O
That's my story.
Disagree.. Many coaches would have been unable to provide the setting where their players develop to these levels.. Especially young players, who've done it without any issues of ego or selfishness (prior to Reggie this season).
Also, no one foresaw Russ being this good! I think it's more likely that other coaches would not have fostered this development. Or been able to keep his players on the proverbial same page this long. (I kind of feel like Russ game could never reach this level under the "typical" coach)
It's deeper than X+O sometimes.
I know michael cage doesn't have someone telling him the net is nylon twice a week. Dammit man

FYI een tho y'all prolly already know this... NYC is on a 11pm curfew tonite. Expecting 20" of snow .. Doubtful okc flies into ny tonite or tomorrow. Nets were supposed to drive to philly tonite to fly wherever their next game is... Knicks/Thunder could be the next on that PPD list

I definitely don't like that idea either. I'm hoping Reggie is here at least til summer
Why are you running a 2ndary rub off for Westbrook off the ball to come to the top of the key where Kd has the ball?
Why was he waiting for the pass by Steven. How was it broken before Steven even tried to determine where the defense was.. How is a PnR a broken play?
I think it's a combination of things. Mostly brain farts by brooks. & stubbornness/impatience by players.
Dudes naturally do what they are accustomed to do.. Especially athletes.
I'm actually not defending brooks. Just saying give the credit when due. (& watch the game without already having your mind made up about whether this decision is right or this player should play etc .. It's sport, it's fluid) ... & That was a solid play.
Go back & re watch the tying lay up
They run a rub off action for Russ to come to the top. Steven never checks to see where the defense is. Russ is waiting for the pass before Steven even catches the pass from durant. Russ then uses his ability to navigate the paint off of Stevens clear out
How is this not a play?
You guys do anything to discredit scotty man I swear
The play they ran for Russ' layup to tie in regulation was groovy
That's exactly a sign of an elite team. Okc didn't stop being an elite team .. They just have had a wild season, the best is in front of them
Exactly.. I think bogut playing plays into the thunders advantage ... They aren't as dangerous & explosive offensively with that big on the floor imo
Meh. Winning games when you don't play well, especially on the road, is a good sign that they are rounding into form.
This is contradictory. A) Adams had the ball which means they trusted him to get it to him. B) Jackson shot meaning other players did see the ball ... The reason they didn't share the ball is because they were the 2 best players on the floor. But mainly because they got a good look basically every possession.
Because generally in the past they didn't do the PnR. It was KD "posting" at the arc.
What is a better alternative then your best 2 players running a PnR ?
Umm you have 2 of the best players in the game. A 2 man PnR w/ them is sound bball ... When Russ chose to pass to a different player 1 other time everyone had a conniption because that player shot the ball.
No offense to the bronians I was more so asking about
I don't think the comparison of perk & thabo is equal to Steven & Roberson... Steven seems far more serviceable offensively than perk
Bron bron robersonned a FT last nite?...
I truly think okc is a team that feels like they win by defense. & they are ok with sometimey offense. Lamb has shown no proclivity to play defense. & a team that is in the hunt every year wants their players to care. His nonchalance about it would not lend to coaches having confidence in him.
I can't prove it but I feel like if lamb was showing them something behind the scenes, he would play. I'm almost positive that Reggie Russ & probably even dion abuse him in practice.
If your teammates want you to play, eventually you will play. That's my belief.
The flip side is when you live in the city, & deal with the symptoms of that, sometimes that "rural" country life is highly desirable
I still like lamb... It just doesn't seem like his wiring is suitable to play for this organization
the objectivity is just that. the team has won & the player has been productive on the whole. the player that they gave away for him was a 15th man. & they also gave away the opportunity to draft a rookie.
I don't need any # to prove this.
We also can acknowledge that there are alternative ways of analyzing & evaluating the game. & because you can prove 1 thing by #s, doesn't necessarily mean an alternative pov is "wrong"..
Your statistical superiority complex doesn't shake me
Men lie. Women lie. #s don't tell the whole story.
I have no problem with quantifiable measures.
We need an acknowledgement that there are large aspects of the game that can't be measured in #s
Until we do that there will always be a disconnect. & you will always try to high jack the board with a "stat"
Thank you. Thank you.
That's a good spin for an anti dion guy ... Some of us would say that the bench is productive because it no longer relies solely on Reggie for its production
I asked 2 yes or no questions... You brilliantly answered neither ... Thanks for coming
Will you acknowledge that Dion has been productive? Will you acknowledge that since he's gotten here the bench has been productive?
