You live in a tech bubble. Cable companies give away free HBO every day to millions and millions of people who will simply not bother to cancel after the free 3 months. These subscribers don't have to proactively sign up for HBO -- it just comes with the packages for "free" for a couple of months.
There is zero chance HBO will give up that windfall for the relative handful of people in thr world who have ever heard of HBO Go.
Cell phones broke through in the early 90s (i.e., nearly 25 years ago).. Even today, the vast majority of the population in this country will still not part with their land line phones. To say HBO will cut the cable cord in 5 years because HBO Go has been around for 24 months is absurd.
