@foldamort Yeah, there was a good article recently about the expanding strikezone.

I'll find it.

@DodgerDodger

1. This is optimistic, and may be possible, but remember that Ethier makes a lot more than $7 mill a year, he makes over 15 for several more years, so its a shit ton of money to buy a AA pick, even if the Dodgers kick in more than half of it, which is almost certainly a condition, unless someone big was also included in the deal.

2. There's also Arruebarrena, who is Rojas, but makes a lot more money, and might have contractual stipulations for MLB play, and with potentially a bit of an attitude issue, based upon minor league rumors.

3. Turner at short is not something that should happen.

Think about point 3 and point 2 taken as a pair: If you put Rojas at 3B, lose Hanley, and lose Uribe you get the following:

If you play Turner at SS: A defensive downgrade (from Hanley!) at SS, a hole in your bench, a downgraded offense, and arguably zero net gain on 3B defense. It could be the reality, but I would be shocked if it were the plan.

If you play Arruebarrena at SS and Rojas at 3B, you have a nice defensive infield, but some serious offensive stink.

@BlueMarvin I don't think the Dodgers will dip below top 15. But they may drop to number 2.

I think we won't know what will happen, but if the major league team isn't thrilling in the next year or two, then keep your eyes on the minor league system.

@foldamort @Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda The Dodgers make it impossible to judge, because they get good WAR from expensive players and bad WAR from expensive players, and the same is true of cheap players.

Nice post, Mike. Full agreement on all fronts.

I think Mattingly would have been much more lauded if he had taken a page out of Bochy's playbook and called for a massive wild pitch from Rosenthal in the ninth inning of NLDS game 1.

@P_F_P @BehindOrangeLines The thing is, the Cards already lost Yadier to a strain that usually sidelines people for a long time, so the odds are good that no matter what this is a hard series for them already.

Nice write-up Chad.

I think the front office will be less split going forward, and this will lead to a more coherrent strategy.

It explains a lot that mid-tier prospects were off the table for trade deadline acquisitions, because it seemed other team were getting more for less than our "top 3"

Ok, so I was watching on gameday, and now I see that the Giants get anothr huge run on a fucked up play by the opposition.

How is this a thing that keeps happening?

It's as though the Giants intimidate their opponents with their relentless mere existence.

It's interesting how the Dodgers "clubhouse" and player egos are frequently described as "bloated." It's as though money correlates directly to ego growth.

Basically the whole season and for several years, the Dodgers have been described as a bunch of big egos, meanwhile guys like Crawford, Gonzalez and Uribe continue to rework their game, display intensity on the field, and camaraderie despite extensive media mental health assessments.

It's quite interesting to me how casually people link money and psychological problems.

@ak825 I wonder if the Rays budgetary constraints extended to players who they knew they had a shot at signing as draft picks? Also, their big successes came when drafting in the top 3 picks in a given year. Only one of their draft picks in recent years has been above the 20th slot and that was Josh Sale at 17. Who was better that was drafted below these guys? My guess is not many players.
