@TellMyWifeISaidHello @Raul Franklin Probably not as much of an offensive threat, but defensively excellent.

@TellMyWifeISaidHello @Raul Franklin I'm really not sure why you're asking why? He's a lot like Olivera, except completely major league established, and they got him for 4 years at AAV of $12/yr.

Does that sound wrong?

I bet the front office doesn't believe that there's such a thing anymore as a "front line durable starter". They probably assume that everyone is just one incident away from a derailment.

@Tymathee @FurryBrick In the end, a "good clubhouse" is not something we can measure, nor is it one thing in particular.

See Zack Grienke for an assessment of the value of dumb players.

So the DodgerzGM thing is a reminder of why when firing people, organizations tend to say "hand in your security card and vacate the premises within 1 hour."

The huge long contracts on the Dodgers' ledger (plus the ones effectively dumped this offseason) reveal just how handcuffed the FO was when they took over.

As Mike has pointed out endless times, this front office hasn't been cheap, they've just been striving for freedom.

The potential silver lining in these gifs is that it looks like Grandal's whole body is not moving nearly well enough behind the plate, which I would chalk up to needing to get back into crouching behind the plate.

Advanced stats require people to do complicated math or accept other people's analysis. Batting average requires simple division.

That's it. Advanced stats will always require some explanation.

@Disgruntled Goat @Raul Franklin I am in total agreement. This is just invisible money. You don't point to a roster spot next year and say "Not Brian Wilson". You just don't have to say "there's Brian Wilson in the bullpen". #worthit

@Montgomery "Drink" Burns I certainly hope you're not really sorry.

What kind of world would it be if when people are right, they should apologize.

It would be a shonda (in the yiddish sense of the term).

Let us establish higher standards for our food and our food fights.

@Montgomery Burns In the end, to call something a sham because it is not regulated well, or is not stringent enough in its standards misses the point.

If you like the core principle, then advocate that it be applied well.

@Montgomery Burns And yes, those standards include extended documentation of going without a category of pesticides. So in short, you're a doctor not a farmer, dude.

@Montgomery Burns Did you learn this from Penn and Teller?

It is regionally regulated, and regulations have been gradually relaxed as mass market enterprises have come to dominate organic, but I have actually spoken to farmers who have complained of the difficulty of getting certification due to high standards.

It may have been gutted, but that doesn't mean that it's a lie.

@Montgomery Burns But actually it did matter. It was a useful standard to set and established precedent and practice for removing a category of noxious chemicals from our collective effluent.
