@ginidietrich  - Such a great commentary on the age-old question - What's the ROI of [insert anything here!]? Without goals or a plan, there's no long-term return.  I wonder if that frazzled business owner ever figured out how truthful you were being with him.

Great post, Gini! I LOVE newspapers and actually like newsprint on my fingertips. This painful decline has been a real source of sadness for me, but as the article indicates, it's inevitable. Here in Harrisburg, PA (the capital city of PA, btw) our newspaper is down to only printing three days a week.  I still contend (foolishly hope?) that there are opportunities for newspapers to survive if they become more "niche" by focusing on local news & issues and work in partnership with small business advertisers.  Regarding the diminishing field of journalism...who needs journalists when everyone and anyone is a reporter?

Banned Books?!  Really...is this a thing in 2014?  I've read a lot of these and don't understand.  Although I do agree with you, @ginidietrich about bleaching of eyeballs!  I say let's ban close-mindedness first!

Not surprisingly, this is a very smart approach and I can totally see why your team is so dedicated and why it's hard to get them to take time off! (what a problem, eh?)  As you point out, it won't work for every company or even for every employee, but what a win-win for those who can do it well.

@ginidietrich you realize that you're going to have an avalanche of resumes coming your way, right? :)

@ginidietrich @mathewsn  Something I've done with my two girls since they were little is to frequently say to them..."Sophie/Emily is..." and they're to finish the sentence with three things.  One of my proudest mom moments was when they gleefully yelled, without prompting, "Smart, Talented & Awesome!"  And I'll brag about that until the cows come home! :)

Excellent post, @LauraPetrolino - it's always interesting to think about the differences that make folks tick and I love your action-provoking ideas!  For me, I'm naturally an extrovert (ask my kindergarten teacher!), but find myself being more introverted as I get older.
