Its a sign the football recruiters did not close the loop with admissions a while ago. Recruiters responsibility. Somebody missed something. Sorry for the family, this is a very frustrating situation to for everyone involved.

If the only guys in Missouri who care about Mizzou are its graduates, I'll eat my Mazda. It's the state's flagship university, and that means just about every family in Missouri has a graduate in its lineage. That means every family in Missouri is a potential "gotcha" for TV on Saturday's at some get together. And from what I have been reading about Missouri fans, they are passionate. I'm not going to be the one in the room trying to wrestle the remote to change the channel during game day. As for "middling," you have a different definition of "middling" than I do. Mizzou is going to do well in the SEC. They have a very, very capable coaching staff, a very, very smart administration and a dedicated, smart and energetic fan base. Good grief, what a find for the SEC. Welcome aboard Mizzou!

Way to go Ags! I like this hire just as A&M is about to make decisions on how to renovate Kyle Field. Sumlin has a good head start on Hyman, setting up for two of the best recruiting seasons in A&M history, so if those two hit it off, the Ags should do well.
Can not see a down side for the Aggies on this one (yet). Doesn't hurt my opinion that turmoil in the East, any other place than Gainesville, helps my Gators. USC is a good program though, should attract a lot of interest for a replacement. Hope they can poach from the Big 10......

Actually John, your second to last paragraph was the most interesting to me. I would suggest that it would not take long for a selection committee of guys with large egos (pick a retired coach, ANY retired coach, just to pick on coaches) who would not be more concerned with what the media said about them, day after day, week after week, than what a bunch of fans, from say the SEC, had to say? Good press and adulation are important to a lot of sports guys (well, to a lot of people), who KNOW the power of the press to raise them up or tear them down. I don't like this system as it is emerging. Maybe will change my opinion, but the more you write about it, the less I like it. (Okay, that's not a plea to stop writing about it).
2 years ago on Would Alabama Have Even Made A Playoff Last Year?
And those are just the first 10 things that will cause bickering. Bottom line, the nature of college football and its attendant bowl system interfere with the goal of achieving a clear cut process for determining a national championship. And major modifications to the bowl system ain't going to happen, because greed is more important than determining a champion. (See #'s 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 for reasons why).
So, in our never ending quest to crown a national champion, while keeping the sanctity of the bowls, we are getting a process that looks a lot more open to the effects of politics than the system it is replacing. Heck, there just isn't anyone out there who could be put on the committee who is not biased. And if two or more of those guys, committed to doing good, decide that for the good of college ball, we need to lift a team with a 12-0 record against nobodies to the final four because ..... pick a reason, then its toast with the fans too. Nah, this is a classic example of too many smart guys in a room trying to figure out how to make everybody happy but the 600 pound simian in the middle of the room. (can you say SEC?)
Any bets on when the first accusations of partisanship and political maneuvering start flying? Think they will start the instant any final plan is announced.... or leaked...

You gotta love that kind of, "no brag, just fact" tweet. Speaks volumes to potential recruits. Way to go Caliari. Hope UF's coach next season can say the same thing..... Okay, I'm allowed to dream here...

Great use of Bowden as a test case for a voting member. I'm absolutely against the ex-coaches idea. Same for ex-presidents, ex-AD's, serving coaches, AD's, presidents, members of the boards of trustees, presidents of alumni associations, billionaires who own stadiums affected by play-offs, members of bowl committees, TV execs, sports writers, fans, ex-fans, and wives and husbands of all included in those categories. (Which means nobody I suppose. But since there has to be somebody, I'm waiting for the "trust but verify" provisions for the "committee)."
How in the heck are you going to find an unbiased, untarnished, and or completely devoid of human emotion group to be on this committee, whose voting is not going to be questioned? (and as a Gator and an SEC fan, no way do I want Bowden, and I would expect FSU fans to have a list of Gator coaches, players, et al they don't want on their list also). Agree with the author, the basketball analogy is okay on its face, but the basketball community has been doing this for a long time, and they don't have bowl politics to complicate things (and as MrSec has pointed out many times, bowl politics complicates football considerations..... across the board). Bottom line, no matter what concept you use to find a national champion, it is going to be flawed, and this system won't survive its first season before the knives come out. Without a 16 team playoff, and a dramatic change to the bowl system, you're not even going to get close to a "good solution."
I think the BCS system got us close. So lets see if this is really going to turn out to be a "no computers" just people system, or if the committee will have computer assist to help them out. That would make it better, not perfect.
Oh well, may the best team win, and everybody else who's close can argue the point. (Just like it has been since college ball started).

MrSec. Good stuff. Been hearing numbers fly all over the place, bashing and boasting about which school or conference is full of financial dolts or genius's respectively. Since money is a big deal, keep the stuff on financials coming. I know there are 27 to 3,500 different ways to interpret the data, so thanks for keeping it simple for us graduates of Southern Universities. 8 X 10 color glossies would be nice, but a Powerpoint presentation will do in a pinch.... just kidding..... good effort.
2 years, 1 month ago on Big Ten/SEC Money Comparisons Aren’t Exactly Accurate
@Eagle78 Vandy and A&M. Don't get that combo much. But gotta agree with you. One of the reasons the SEC is such a great conference is we respect each other's decisions on choosing a school. I did not end up at Florida for a degree because I would not have loved to go to Alabama (love that campus), but because I could not afford out of state tuition.. (A&M's Loftin is correct, this is about much more than football). Apparently, some from at least one school in the B12-1-1-2+2 has a problem with that concept.
Aside from spitting on the ground every time Georgia is mentioned, Gators everywhere root for them in bowl games, and we don't like it when anyone outside the conference goes after them. Not one bit. That's the SEC. On game day, we don't have much good to say about them, but God Bless those Dawgs, they are SEC and it would suck to not have fun with 'em during the year. Thats the SEC experience, and others don't get it.
UF has a lot more in common with A&M than with Mizzou, but I like the way Mizzou has taken up the challenge, I like their fans, I like their sense of humor. The Ags, based on the quality (or lack of it) of the guys who really don't like 'em, should fit in well too. Apparently, at least one B12-1-1-2+2 spends a lot of time posting gripes about A&M. We don't care. If a Gator can like the fact that Georgia is in the same conference as us (and we will fight tooth and nail to keep it that way), then what makes him think we really care what he has to say about A&M? Ags are gonna step in it once and a while, but haven't we all? I've spent a lot of time at Aggieland. Good place. Huge, and I mean Huge for those who have not been there. Friendly. Don't know about you Eagle, but my first day walking around that campus my jaw hurt from saying "Howdy" so much. How can you not like a place where your jaw actually hurts because every person you walk by says Howdy? Wouldn't be so painful, except THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM!

@Gamecock in ATL You know the worst thing about taking A&M and Mizzou? JB shows up on this site and brings his crap along with him. Ever here him say a nice thing about anybody other than "his herd?" Nothing more bitter I suppose than a neutered bovine I suppose. Tell Steve we all said "Hi." He's more fun to watch on the sidelines than a clown with six ferrets in his pants...... Gonna miss the boy when he leaves the sport.
@AllTideUp Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery there AllTide......
@KC Guy You'll be fine. And no disrespect to TCU and WVU, but the B12 will not be any better off in 22 days than it was last year. When Nebraska left, the B12 said "Good riddance," but Nebraska had a very tough program and was not replaced. Colorado was never a contender, but they were a tough team, and they were not replaced. Kansas is going to regret not playing Mizzou, as they don't have anyone to replace MU with. Mizzou has how many teams to pick from to develop a rivalry with? Yep, Mizzou is going to whupped a few times, but Pinkel is a very, very good coach. If he stays, Mizzou will give its fair share of black eyes in the family feud. Welcome from the University of Florida. Come on down to the Swamp and visit some time.
2 years, 1 month ago on Mizzou And A&M Get An Atlanta Welcome To The SEC
@JRsec I hope your analysis is not correct (probably is), but only because I just can't picture ND hanging around Texas and Oklahoma all season. The Irish should play in the snow 9 games a year and once a year in an ice storm. I can take them booking a holiday game or two in California, but that's as far as I can go......
Hmmmmm. Wonder if the SEC can make them a deal. Not as a conference member, but as a special guest for say Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas and Auburn once every year. They can play USC, Stanford or whoever else they want, but we get 'em for 5 or 6 games a year and they stay independent. Not going to happen, but a lot of southern ND lovers would buy subscriptions to the SEC network for that. Tongue and cheek obviously.
2 years, 1 month ago on Slive Weighs In On Expansion And Realignment
@buddha22 @Mr Well, I have not been outside of StL either, but I've read nothing but raves about the move to the SEC by Mizzou fans. You have a head coach who is in favor of the move, and he seems to be pretty competent at what he does. Mizzou moved into the top 5 for recruiting in the SEC less than 6 months after the announcement. So, lets see, fan base is raring to go, coach likes it and recruits are pumped. If that makes MU a poor cultural fit, then........ we should all look for the nearest bridge.
2 years, 1 month ago on FSU’s Outgoing Top Trustee Makes FSU’s AD, The ACC, Media Everywhere, And Yours Truly Look Bad
@Lupin @AllTideUp Not sure if I was A&M I'd want to play LSU on T-day and then line up against Alabama the next weekend. Mizzou might not like Arkansas and then Auburn the next week as a steady diet either. Nope, if I was either AD, I'd rather have at least two weeks between those matchups. And, as a practical TV scheduling thing, I'd rather not feature the same two teams in back to back matchups except in those years they were competing for a bowl slot. Since all this is about TV revenue these days, better to give the programmers a little more flexibility. 'Bama and LSU might not like the idea either. While everybody is looking at the two newbies as "having to have time to get used to the league," think three or four years into the this. Hmmmm. Not saying A&M or Mizzou are going to be a powerhouse, but if you are an AD, you gotta think 10 years down the road.
2 years, 1 month ago on Sherrill Says A&M-LSU Thanksgiving Game Is Already On The Table
@AllTideUp Just to pile on, with the number of advertising opportunities for the traditional "arse in chair" viewer diminishing, as AllTide pointed out, the effect is to make the advertising space where the arse is actually in the chair and willing to sit through the commercial, much more valuable. And, that means an expansion opportunity for networks that carry sporting events that folks watch. Interesting UF and UGA are listed as talking. They have a huge rivalry, and while Adams has long been a proponent of the network, Machen at UF has been heavily lobbying Loftin at A&M over the past year (and I think Machen was pimping Loftin ot move to the SEC while they attended academic meetings in 2010 together) on the Network as a major incentive for A&M to jump to the SEC. (That was kind of alluded to by Loftin back in Sep when he accepted the SEC invite. He made it a point to mention Machen's contribution to the A&M decision to jump).
2 years, 1 month ago on UGA And UF Presidents Talk Potential SEC Network
No way, with an 8 game SEC football schedule, you can keep, start or revamp every rivalry you'd like to have within the conference. That might take a ten game schedule, but we're not going to see that. Think I will just enjoy 2012 and let the rest work itself out before I cry in my beer about expansion.
We are going to like having Mizzou in the SEC. What took you so long?
