If speed isn't a big deal, Simple Mobile is a T-Mobile MVNO with decent coverage and unlimited talk/text/web for $40/month. No contract and you can upgrade to 4G for $20 more.

@AdamBritten That's an intriguing possibility. I think it's interesting that they haven't strictly defined what a neighborhood is, leaving the possibility open that users will appropriate the site for apartment complexes, assisted living facilities, or what have you.
As far as the "mom test" goes: many mothers use Facebook. I imagine the barriers to jumping on a service like this are similar to the ones facing any startup social service.
@MikeDaly A villain who spent years building a web identity so that in the event that LinkedIn's passwords were stolen, he could pass the Google test and re-steal them? That guy probably deserves my password at this point.
