And another thing - if the B!G really thought they had a shot at any of those ACC schools I really doubt they would have wasted a spot on Rutgers. I think that is a pretty good indication that they couldn't do better and settled on a school that would boost their numbers a bit right before they go into TV negotiations.

The idea of those NC bluebloods joining the SEC is hilarious. There would be violence in the streets of Durham, or at least a few sharp quips of disapproval. As internet rumors go, this is worse than that WV dude guy. If UNC and Duke control their own destiny why wouldn't they go to the B!G? And the idea of 3 teams from NC?? This just doesn't ring true.
I had hoped this was more of a PR game early on in spite of conflicting information coming out of FSU, but by the time Barron was releasing that email I realized it just wasn't so. At least Brooks is no longer on the BoT and remembered to say he had heard it from others, that would make it harder to use the Sunshine Laws or make a case out of it. However, I doubt we will move anywhere now, this is just one more thing that's tripped that process up. Also, I really doubt that Barron is going to resign over a decision about the athletic conference, that's not what he's there for, his job is to run the actual university. Its more a matter of getting a real, in it for the long term AD. Spetman is just a temp, we need someone running this show.

Wetzel's article is most likely closest to the truth. It points out the inaccuracy in Haggard's statement, but clearly says there are problems with the ACC's TV deal. It does not make Haggard out to be a lone dissenter. I trust Wetzel's journalism more than everyone else chiming in combined. For the record Spetmen is more of a lame duck than Haggard. He was a temporary hire almost from the get go.
Either the people running FSU are completely incompetent or FSU already has a plan to leave. Your article reads as if you had no knowledge how the realignment game has been played these last few years. Your conference has rules saying you can't go out and negotiate with other conferences so you must be careful what you say. However, you need to put in an application to another conference and know you will be accepted plus your fans can't be blindsided by sudden change either. So, people with official positions make over the top statements about how committed you are to your present conference while your boosters run around lighting fires. Why start the whole thing about bball being favored even if its not true? To rile up FSU alum and fans. The correction will be an afterthought and even then people here already despise the wine and cheese crowd from back in Sam Cassell's days. Outsiders bashing Haggard as inaccurate will just strengthen the us vs them mentality that is needed to go through with the divorce. I haven't heard Jimbo Fisher running off at the mouth since he's been head coach, but more than that look at how similar the language is to Haggard's and how carefully he adds in he isn't aware of official discussions. This sounds like a company line to me. Would a football coach just running his mouth even think about adding that caveat in?
