Larry, how you are able to step up your game every year with your FDLB coverage is beyond me. So many of these shots are jaw-dropping!

@ASD Motorsports A few years ago they covered some CRA Sprinters. I think Larry needs to go to Perris Auto Speedway a few more times and check up on em :)

I've seen sprinters all my life and I feel the same way you do. FD teams can learn a ton from dirt drifters. IIRC, wasn't Tyler McQ running a sprint car motor in 2008-10? It sounded just GLORIOUS

@Twitch_6 I love you. D1 (if you can find coverage) is absolutely laughable yet these "true drift fans" slobber all over some image of 2003 that ain't EVER coming back, not even in Japan.

I like FD. I don't think it's perfect. But it's the best professional drifting series out there as well as the most available. The stream was the best move they could have ever done. If D1 had done this instead of hide their coverage and not translate their videos, they might possibly have stayed relevant.

@Robo_No1 totally agreed, with one caveat: do NOT make it like the TV production. That's more painful to watch than pulling teeth.

I think we really saw a major shift this year, and I can only congratulate FD on good planning. The shift was FD going global and truly being the top series in the world. It sounded cheesy at the beginning, but now that it is a reality, you can see how it got the attention of both the European and the Japanese drifting communities. There hasn't been this many D1 drivers in attendance since FD's first year. I do see this year's FD World Championship having its growing pains, as none of the teams really know what they will need to budget, how the logistics will play out, etc. But I can see in a couple years a series with events in the US, AUS, NZ, Japan, Gatebil, UK and either Poland or Russia, if for nothing else to add in the "hometown heroes" effect since those are the biggest drift hotspots around the world.

Either way, I think I'm cool with it. I also think I'll be the first one on here to say, CONGRATS AASBO!!!

@Smiggins Comments like yours show amazing depth of stupidity, why are you even trying? Yet here is FD, year after year, growing and getting more competitive and better. Meanwhile, you still suck, and get ignored, year after year.

Thank you Mike. While everyone else in the SH team is shooting for bigger and better, you bring us the little things that matter. It's not TAS, SEMA, Formula Drift, or Texas Mile show you the heart of the American car culture, it's in our back yards. Bringing it back to the most basic elements: competition and speed. Without crushing your wallet and soul. Just for the love.

@LouisYio @greenroadster WRC cars are not 900hp either. They are ultra-light racecars with insane budgets in R&D and many restrictions on engine power. Something tells me this was dropped in Papadakis's lap or because Tanner isn't going for a season (and thus a full competition run) therefore the easy choice of the V8.

@JakWhite @D1RGE EXE Word for word it does not say it prohibits customizing of the subframe, so I guess as long as you aren't actually hacking frame between the shocks, you can bolt up whatever subframe you can mount.

@Paddy McGrath @D1RGE EXE @JakWhite I was thinking the shell, which is race-prepped and stripped instead of having to strip a dealer car.

Does FD prohibit the use of factory-prepped race car versions of street cars? I think the budgets of some of these teams are getting to where that seems a legitimate question?

2 weeks, 3 days ago on Welcome Back Tanner: <br />How To Make A VW Passat Drift

@JakWhite Except instead of using a BTCC Passat RWD race car as a base, they took a sales unit to there is absolutely nothing shared from BTCC to Papadakis. I am intrigued by the build and understand pretty much all the reasons for everything (sponsorship for the car, LSX for the engine, etc) but really odd that FD is allowing this car. But hey, money talks and I'm willing to bet Rockstar is back to throw serious cash at FD (or FD is hurting over Falken and Monster both having much less budget this year and thus desperate and allowing this car).

As for the previous commenter with the V12 pipe dream from the Audi program.....yeah. I'd like to see the budget to create and make dependable an Audi V12 with 900+ hp and all it's spares for a season. If you remember Tyler McQ in that screamer of a Porsche (2008?), it only lasted a season because spare bumpers cost about the same as a spare block for an S14. Papadakis had 4 months to go from new unmodified platform to race-ready in 4 months, while maintainang and readying Aasbo's car. Damn straight he got an easy engine to throw in there. It's more than enough work just getting the car in shape much less a complete engine build with an unfamiliar block.

I personally never had much respect for Jay as a comedian, his jokes just....well....sucked. My opinion. However as a car guy, my respect for him gets higher and higher each year. He truly loves the automobile, the human fascination with it, the culture of it, the engineering, and most of all, the LOVE of it.

I feel this has been one of the best Speedhunters features ever. Keith, if there was any way you and His Rodness could finagle a quarterly visit to him with a small chat and a couple neat cars, that would be fantastic.

I do like Porsches, and I respect them a lot. However, I find this particular iteration to be....well......less than flattering. The back looks good but the flares look like exactly what they are....someone else's idea, stolen then adapted. The car has enough bubble shapes, this just looks like warts. But hey, cutting a factory fender and tacking on fugly plastic is a hell of a lot cheaper than creating an entire wide-body panel. I would personally prefer a smaller wheel/fatter tire combo on this but forgiving the fenders, its a pretty damn good looking car.
