I've only rarely EVER seen bits and pieces of these cars for sale, they are like crocodile's tears and are the one item Honda owners lust after more than JDM stuff.

@Dimitri A @D1RGE EXE  Tried the BMW steering. Felt OK, but you still feel the road better through rack & pinion. How many race cars have changed over to drive-by-wire? EXACTLY

Every time someone says "drive by wire" I want to die inside. I can live with flappy-paddle shifters but please god don't ever try to tell me that you will feel the road better with a steering wheel that's not even connected to the actual steering. I know its a free car for the weekend so you can't really talk about any shortcomings (or it'll be the last free ride you get), but c'mon Larry. Electric steering.

Amaze. SH finally bring the prodigal son back to the fold! Awesome to have you back Lin, your photography set the bar long ago for this site and has mature by leaps and bounds while you've been away. No insult to the other photogs on SH, but its great to have someone that will make Larry Chen step up even further!

@Paddy McGrath @apex_DNA I'm with Apex on this. How many major car manufacturers are from Japan? I'd say 3 now. Now count the features SH has done on Nissans (Countless), Toyotas (about half the Nissans) and Hondas (maybe 10 in SH history)

There's your double standard. You barely feature the absolute uber cream of the crop for Honda, yet damn near anything with a sparkly paint job and TE37SLs  from Nissan is like HOLD THE FRONT PAGE ZOMG!!! Look at the size of the scenes. Yet you overlook arguably the largest.

I know the VW kids are just as butthurt. Except for the last 2 years, they got plenty before the new crew joined and axed the dub meet coverage.

as much as I love the rarity of the supercars, the gorgeous old Ferraris and Jags, historic muscle etc......NOTHING compares to that Phantom. @tom Agree. But there are some people that feel the need to see who is the BEST. And thats where competition starts. And the escalation that is the professional focus and world.

I love watching FD and D1 and ADGP and D1NZ and the other pros. But there is also a reason I live at the base of the mountains :)

@Kevski Style @D1RGE EXE @robzor I download torrents of all the races the day after and sometimes can find them live streamed. Normally they only broadcast Monaco and the USGP.

I would assume that if they take out the play in the sidewall, there must be more allowed in the suspension to retain grip. As now, I know there is more in the sidewall than in the suspension travel. Take that away and how will the cars stay on the track? I guess what I am saying is, I doubt they would just throw 18s at the teams and say, "deal with it". But then again, these are the best engineers in the world....i have no problem seeing what the engineers could come up with to compensate for the more rigid tires.

@Kevski Style @robzor
So if there is less sidewall, wouldn't the engineers just change the SUSPENSION? I would hope they could think of that.....I mean, it is adjustable, right? Tell me if I got this wrong here.

Looked like a good start. It was great to actually watch the whole thing live, too! Its one of the areas I always felt D1 seriously messed up on. Instead, they stagnated while Formula D progressed year after year, adapting, changing, and now.....what a crushing blow. I sincerely hope more D1/D1SL drivers come out to play at the next FD. This one had a few good names but had nowhere near the depth of talent we would normally see.

Congrats to Masao Suenaga :) Even if he didn't know hahahahah!

@DrewRobertson @D1RGE EXE Muscle car blood runs deeply throughout all of America. Undisputable point. From Motor City and Chi-town to the South, Texas, the plains, its part of all of us. But you really cant compare whats on the west coast to anywhere else. SoCal has a simply stupid amount of vehicles, little deterioration, and a century of power/stars/collectors/money that has always attracted the cream of the automotive world's crop. C&C doesnt even scratch the surface of what's in the auto museums around much less the serious collector's garages.

I went to a little car show in Long Beach about 4 years ago. It was a nameless summer weekend, a small park, not really advertised or anything, mostly a meet where people just shined up what they had in the garage, and it was 95% muscle/kustom/classics, and kept in their families since the 70s and earlier. It was over a thousand cars deep, almost all could have graced a magazine cover (many had at one time or another). And a meet like that doesn't even get attention.

http://s234.photobucket.com/user/Housetian/library/Lakewood%20Car%20Show%2008-15-2010

That's what it's like. What classics are rare to see around the rest of the country, are still daily driven and common sight on our streets and in our garages.

Good coverage, nice to see the rest of the country has caught on (to another SoCal car trend). But this article reminded me of being in Florida....every single local had to find a way to point out how some little thing was better than in Calif, yet never once did I ever say something from Cali was better than Florida.

STOP IT.

There is more muscle cars, history and knowledge forgotten all over Long Beach, San Diego, Central Cal, San Jose, Oakland, San Berdoo, Riverside and many more places than Georgia will EVER get. Sure you got NASCAR and the like but homie you are deluding yourself. The whole damn muscle car culture basically came from SoCal.

That meet also looked like it encompassed about 1/8 of the size and variety and value of the original C&C in Irvine. There is more money and historic rolling steel in just LA than in the entire south put together. Good try, but nope, its still not better than SoCal.

For instance, how long do you think Cars & Coffee in Irvine would go on if it was Cars & Coronas?  And for every young hothead that wants the party, i can surmise there are 3 or 4 adults, some with kids, that enjoy car culture just fine without the drunken fools.
