@ericbauer @speedhunters_dino but you wrote: "The exterior itself is mostly wrapped in carbon-look vinyl " and clearly i'm not the only one to have misunderstood what you meant based on the comments above & below... So what's real dry carbon? And what's fake wrapped imitation CF vinyl sticker?

Hey Dino

Are you sure about the back half of the car being just covered in imitation CF vinyl wrap as your article states?

I was lucky enough to be invited to a delicious steak dinner with Watanabe-san a couple weeks ago by the organizers of the NorCal "VintageAutoSalon" show, and I specifically asked him about this car and the carbon S30. He told me that the rear end of the car that isn't detachable fenders/doors/bonnet/trunk lid/etc is genuine dry carbon laid on top of the original sheetmetal...

Curious why the discrepancy... maybe I misunderstood ?

Hey Mike

1/5 and 1/4 scale are pretty standard for car design models. When we aren't working in full size that's what we go for.

It's cool that Toyota made so many of these for public display. Saves square footage in the museum I guess? lol ...

Is it because of the amount of wide angle in the camera lens, or does the impala actually not fit in the typical kiwi garage? (3rd pic down)

I am always amazed about the random French words that make their way into Japanese products... "egoiste" means selfish / egotistical... I get it, but still an odd name for a trim level...  @speedhunters_dino   Have you gotten any indication from Nissan as to the expected longevity for the carbon discs ?  I can imagine that changing them out will cost a small fortune, but then again it seems that more and more LeMans teams seem to get by the whole 24hr race on the same set of rotors, so in day to day driving they might actually last a LONG time... Curious ...

@yotafan  of course! ... but you're missing the point that i was after... as everyday joe's and would be collectors it's highly unlikely we have the actual skill to notice what makes a championship winning car vs an also ran... and if you compare the for sale prices of a top tier car vs an also ran the prices are staggeringly different when they come up for sale... that's what i was after! Sure an ex-Senna car would be mind bendingly awesome, but i bet you that for us common mortals we would be ecstatic to get behind the wheel of a Minardi, or an Arrows, or ... and financially that's much more realistic than a McLaren or a Ferrari or a RedBull

Everyone reading this needs to do themselves a favor and attend, in period clothing of course... This is the best chance you have of considering your significant other to tag along if only for the period fashions.... I've now been twice with a press pass for another online publication (2009 & 2011) and have enjoyed every minute of it, be it sunny and nice (2009) or a deluge of rain and thunder (2011).

Having attended Monterey Historics religiously 16years in a row, I took a year off in 2009 from that event to go to The Revival instead and I've never looked back... The cars you of course will see at all the main historic events all over the world - it is after all the same cars that get shipped back and forth, but the access to the drivers, the airplanes, the motorcycles & scooters, and all the period touches are unique to this place!

Go go go....!

@AlanT @brynmusselwhite  in the pics the rear dunlop slicks are 290/575-15, in the specs they are listed as 265/575-15. Is this merely a typo? Or are the narrower tires treaded rains perhaps? If so, are those narrower 265s still run on 11J rims, or narrower rims?

Actually one question for you Dino, I don't remember Hakone being "Toyo" sponsored... Is that a recent thing? Do they pay to maintain the road? Seems kind of like an invitation to drive it fast, but what is the actual speed limit? Is that a bit of a double standard that gets the local cops lots of extra revenue from speeding?

Would be kind of hilarious if Advan or Toyo or Hoosier sponsored Angeles Crest in Los Angeles...

Hey Dino

So I'm really digging your latest string of articles for SH... Kanpachi-dori, set-up day at JGTC, and now this... Rather than "just" covering a specific car, or an event, you're really digging down deeper into the culture, the day-to-day. You're doing an amazing job of capturing what it's like to be there which is a great insight for people who have never been to Japan - and maybe motivation for them to buy a plane ticket... It's also a great trip down memory lane for those of us who have been out there... It helps me forget it's been 6 years since I've been to Japan... need to get back out there for a visit sometime soon...

Keep up the great work!

And yeah there definitely is something odd about Honda developing a brand new car from scratch (HSV), when Toyota is still kicking around Soarers (SC)... Definitely odd that they didn't give the SGT treatment to an LFA... Strange strange rules at play here...
