And although we know about how bad the relief core was, but who were the big disappointments against St Louis?? Kershaw, Gonzalez and Puig. They are still here
4 months ago on Look How Different The Dodgers Roster Is Now
So how did this super flawed team win 94 games? Let's see if this new cohesive team ends up to be better or worse. ?
@InsideThePark Now if he can just pitch 8 shutout innings in the playoffs--that would be something.

@Mike Petriello old wives tale. good luck

@TheOcelot @davstein48 @ tomato How many teams have quality 4 starters? We got a few good months from Becket, and a few late good starts frm Haren
6 months ago on Andrew Friedman Is Going To Do Something That Infuriates You
@ tomato @TheOcelot @davstein48 OK, that team wins all those games that Kershaw starts
@Condorave @davstein48 Yes, if we win the WS then everyone happy. But the new regime has a tough act to follow
Or that Kershaw is 21-3, and Grienke can duplicate his year?
I think the new team might piss off a lot of people. Lets say there is a new GM AND manager. And players are moved, dumped, traded etc. Ok so what is the odds the new team wins more than 94 games? Or that Kenley Jansen stays healthy. Or the new outfield hits better than this one. Or the bench hits better than Turner and Van Slyke? Or Uribe ? etc etc
I know wins by relief pitchers don't mean anything, But if Wash wins in bottom of ninth Storen gets the win and he didn't get anyone out
6 months, 2 weeks ago on So, About Clayton Kershaw And Tipping Pitches…
RE: lefty to face RAMIREZ. If Hudson walks Ramirez and they bring in the lefty, The Dodgers can counter with Van Slyke. If the lefty walks Ramirez, and the Dodgers bring in Van Slyke, then they can remove him and bring in a right hander. So I think it was good move by Bochy
6 months, 3 weeks ago on Dodgers 9, Giants 1: NL West champions
@Purple Drank @davstein48 Ok so that's two statistics that don't give an accurate picture. If he starts an inning an gives up runs then he was ineffective that day. Or comes in with men on base and lets them score, likewise. If he's not striking out enough batters, then more balls are hit, and more bloops will be hits. That's not bad luck, its letting too many people hit the ball
7 months ago on Can Brian Wilson Really Dial Up His Velocity In The Playoffs?
@Purple Drank @davstein48 OK. Then I am lost. What do I care about BABIP if you say the small sample size skewers the results and luck comes into play. Can we count on him to get guys out and not give up runs?
@Purple Drank @davstein48 OK. then lets forget about BABIP. Is he getting the job done or not?
@Purple Drank @davstein48 So again, what is BABIP showing about how he is doing, or luck? The difference between .320 and .347 is about 2 hits over the season?
Mike, or anyone,
Why is his BABIP of .347 'partially due to bad luck'? If his control is worse, his speed is down and movement is less. Seems like bad pitching, not bad luck.
@PJ14 @Purple Drank @DBrim @davstein48 @ThtsaPaddlin I agree with that. and one month can be luck, but over a whole season I think give the guy credit. And yes he may never duplicate it again, but still not luck this year
7 months ago on Dodgers @ Cubs Sept. 20, 2014: More Morning Baseball, And Who Should Start Tomorrow?
@Disgruntled Goat @davstein48 @ThtsaPaddlin @DBrim I have not seen most of the games but are you saying that most of his hits are seeing eye singles and dribblers that no one can reach?
@ThtsaPaddlin @DBrim @davstein48 I'm not sayin he deserves a Coletti like 3yr 20 million contract, but for whatever reason he is having a great year and I don't think it is luck.
@ThtsaPaddlin @DBrim @davstein48 yes I agree. Let's just give the guy credit for what he has done
@DBrim @davstein48 I guess if it lasts the whole season, then we can say he will have his 'regression' next year
Can't we just say that Turner is having a great season and not worry about his BABIP luck?
@BlueMarvin no heart, Just like Billingsley

@TellMyWifeISaidHello I like to say that there are BETTER, but that does not make them useless
@TellMyWifeISaidHello yes saves. I still like wins a little (and RBIs). And the players like them
I thought RBIs was the most meaningless stat
i just came home. Did I miss anything?

7 months, 1 week ago on Dodgers @ Giants Sept. 13, 2014: This Is A Big Game
@Purple Drank @davstein48 No he'll have to do it for the whole month. And 6 homers
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Nationals @ Dodgers Sept. 2, 2014: Joc! Joc Pederson!
I Pederson hits .800 this month, maybe he makes the playoff roster. Otherwise its the 'experienced' guys who will be in.
I've been away all day and I know there have been 900+ comments so far...but back to the original topic--I know we 'stat nerds' love to dissect FIP and wRC+ etc. But isn't the goal of trades to win the World Series?? So so far I would say Boston got the better deal. They won it the next year while we are stuck with all these guys who will never be as good as they once were and will be clogging up the field for years to come. I think that should have been Mike's first sentence, not just an after thought at the end

I know we are not supposed to be political here, but isn't this tomahawk chop more offensive than 'Washington Redskins'
8 months, 1 week ago on Dodgers 6, Braves 4: So Long, Atlanta, and Your Awful Tomahawk Chop
@Disgruntled Goat @davstein48 NO way!!!. There is already some Oscar buzz about Shrknado II. Judd Hirsch, John Casavettes, Al Roker , Kelly and Strahan. This is an alstar cast, just like a Woodt Allen movie.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Dodger Catchers Continuing To Struggle
OK, and my other question. Did you catch Sharknado II or Sharktopus vs Ptericuda. At least that made for an interesting weekend?
I'm sorry if this was covered already, but talking about struggling.... Now that Ethier has struckout about 80 straight times. What's up with him?. I haven't seen those ABs. Is he just up there swinging like every pitch is going to be a fast ball and the hell with it if its not? Or what
@Hoze @davstein48 But I am feeling we really need a #4 AND #5 starter.

9 months ago on Second Half Issue: Dan Haren Wants That Vesting Option
My 2 cents. If Haren pitches well, and is a small factor in us making the playoffs........then who cares about 10 million next year. He'll probably be hurt then anyway
@Tony Fernandez (MSTY Most Informative Poster) @davstein48 @Dang88 Billingsley had grit, he wanted to play and not get some sissy operation.

@Purple Drank (2014 MSTY Poster of the Year) @Dang88 @davstein48 Sure now he'll want us to trade Moody Kemp for him
@Purple Drank (2014 MSTY Poster of the Year) @Dang88 @davstein48 OK that makes him good enough for me.
I just want to know if he has grit
