He's not cheap thanks to his 35/18 game, but I can see Varejao putting up big numbers against Dallas.

I can't access the raw data, but if you consider California does roughly 5x the deals as NYC, then NYC does not really "top California for seed deals."

Curious as to the corporate/legal structure here but on the whole I think it's a good thing and will become more popular. Sounds a little like an informal decentralized light accelerator. (Capital, mentorship, connections, joining/generating a valuable network) And, I think that's good. More companies getting started is good for everybody, not just the firm behind the money. Let's also not forget VC's are investing other people's money too.

If the arrangements are informal, and no one is talking about it, there's probably a reason...

If VC's are prevented from being LPs in other funds then this doesn't work, but I don't know the terms of each VC's GP.

I guess I don't really see the problem. Some percentage of the population is going to cheat/steal and do unethical things, but I don't see the connection here. VC's already have plenty of opportunity as is to do bad stuff if they want. And I believe that 99% don't. I think starting more companies is a good thing, and this is upside for everyone, everywhere.

Hmm. Sounds interesting, but I favor transparency. If a VC wants to invest in a seed fund (ie Scout has a fund) and be an LP with the same rights as everyone else this may be OK, but the relationship should probably be disclosed. It's wrong for a VC to invest in a seed fund? What if the seed fund only does seed, and the VC only does later stage?
