What a brutal game to watch. The Pens are an inferior team that has little depth and a depleted blue line, so there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't dominate every game. The 4-3 score makes it look like a lot closer game than it really was when a 4-1 score would have better illustrated how badly we played.
Arniel needs to watch video of Washington's power play. Damned if they don't move the puck quickly and set up blasts from Ovi. Other than the one PP we scored on last night, the rest were passing drills along the perimeter, rarely ever seeing time in the middle or getting on net. It's really sad and inexcusable when we can control the offensive zone 5on5 but can't do the same thing with the man advantage.

The Rangers need to bounce back like her boobs do.
I'm not positive but I don't think hers are fake.
Man, the guys are playing like a bunch of constipated senior citizens. Wtf.
The names are already on the board, why are they opening envelopes?

I know,I know. I figured that most people wouldn't know what EDT is. Erectile Dysfunction Terrible?
Stupid late start. My son is at a friend's bday party until 8 CDT, so I figured I would be able to catch the first 1, 1.5 periods before having to go get him, but noooo, it's gotta start late ago I'll be lucky to catch even the first 10 minutes.

Is the game at 7 or 8 EST? Neill's schedule says 7 but all the others I've seen say 8.
Tonight's objective....play all three periods like we played the first period of Game 1. The Pens can't hang with us (evidenced by their completely undisciplined play) unless we stop playing our game. Play our style of hockey, jump on them, and make this series 2-0!
We really haven't won a game 2 at home in 20 years?! How many home game 2s have there been during that stretch?

T-minus 2 hours and 55 minutes!! Just enough time to finish work, hit the gym, and park my ass on the couch.
Keys to the game:
McD and Girardi continuing to dominate the best opposing forwards. These guys have shut down Crosby, Malkin, Ovi, etc the entire season and theres no reason to think that is going to change tonight. With Crabby and Malkin stymied, the rest of the team doesn't have enough talent to fill in the gaps.
Nash needs to continue with his regular season performance and not fall apart like in years past. He's been playing great all season and he needs to keep that up.
All forwards and the PP lines....SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK!! Brass...you've got a great shot, use it more often!

I checked out the Pens blog last night and even their fans think the Rangers will easily win the series.
Hank needs the win today. If not, his record-setting streak of 30+ win seasons will come to an end.
Let's go Hank!

@Say my Name
SMN, I agree with you on the goalie situation. What are your thoughts about the playoffs if both guys are playing great...Do you have Hank play all 16-28 games? Or do you have Talbot play 1-2 per series so that Hank doesnt get physically wiped out by the Finals?

Based on the history of the medical staff, I would ask for a second opinion on the 2 arms diagnosis.

@dsclaw88 Hopefully it is just a nasty bruise and not a break. He couldn't even pick his stick up with his left hand.
@Say my Name @gravey94
Talbot had a bit of a rough stretch where he was letting in soft goals nearly every night (though we were still managing to win) but he has definitely upped his game and is back to, or even better than, his form from last season. His play and the performance of the team overall have easily surpassed what I was expecting when Hank got hurt. Talbot's performance last night showed that he has the ability to steal games.
That's because NO ONE SHOOTS THE DAMN PUCK! Especially on the freakin powerplay. If you want to watch a passing clinic, watch our PP. If you want to see an effective PP, watch the Caps.
Kreider and Klein can hold their own. The negatives of Glass far outweigh any benefit he provides.

@CantAffordAvatar Glass is a liability in every aspect of the game. He is not a deterrent to the other team (nor do I think other "enforcer" types are, either). Get him in the team suite and let the guys with talent suit up. As for paying retribution, guys like Kreider and Klein are willing to stand up for their teammates when necessary. And they can do it while being NHL-quality players.
@Hotfreak @G Should have packaged Glass as a freebie to go along with Stemp.

I don't know who McDavid is but nearly 3 points per game is ridiculous!
Who ISN'T taller than Zucc by the time they're 14?
Gravey...just want to say that I always enjoy your posts. Well thought out, even tempered, you are an excellent contributor to this site.
To be fair, Zucc signed two short-term contracts at very friendly $ because he wanted to stay in N.Y. He has demonstrated that he wants to stay with the team, now he's looking for the team to repay his generosity. It's not looking like that will happen, though.

@DP_Snotty Talbot scores his first of the season!
That was awesome. :)
GM: Sully, what is your advanced stats explanation for why you suck so bad at running the powerplay? And as a follow-up to you, John, what is your explanation for continuing to let Sully run the powerplay despite years of it being so ineffective? Why don't you staple him to the bench like you do all your young players?

I'm not saying it is good or remotely close to the level of Talbot, but it has definitely improved compared to prior seasons.

Hank has definitely improved his puckhandling this season. He used to be absolutely brutal and a liability and now he is closer to being competent. Progress in the right direction.
I agree with your point that both guys started the season very slowly and unimpressively. Part of that was their own doing but part was also a result of the lack of effort we saw with the entire team and being hung out to dry early in the season.
He has been awesome this year. Loving his newfound effort!

@rangermom When has that ever been called a goal? If the puck is under the goalie and you can't see it, then it's not a goal even if you believe 100% that the puck crossed the line. The situation last night was different and, IMO, should have been called a goal.
Two bad plays by Mac.

@genetics73 @pkh33 hadn't heard that. Thanks for the info!
@petergoode That's what Advil is for. ;)
Let's continue the excellent play from last night!
Is Talbot in to give Hank a little rest or is Hank's shoulder smarting from that high shot last night?
Fast: +/- 0 in 24 games
Glass: -12 in 29 games
Glass has a worse +/- than the next 5 worst players combined (all of the guys with a negative +/-)/.
@GiveGartneraCup I caught most of the 1st and 2nd, and you are spot-on in regards to the number of brutal through-the-middle breakout passes that were intercepted or tipped by the Ducks. IIRC, Staal made an awful backhand clearing attempt from behind the goal line that was cleanly intercepted inside the blue line. Other than that, the team played very well and definitely brought the game to Anaheim. Hopefully they can do the same tonight against LA.
@dylonergan @J_CKfor30 His name sounds like "ball sack."

@Say my Name
I thought tonight's game was the first of the season and that we've been on summer break. How many 4-7 day gaps can the NHL schedule? Ridiculous.
With Glass upstairs and Hank hopefully pulling his head from his ass, we should have a very good shot at another 2 points. LGR!

Nash is so on fire that he score 2 goals that he didn't even shoot. Lol.
Happy holidays everyone! May you all have a safe and happy time!

As a long time Nash detractor, I love how he has pulled his head out of his ass and started playing like the guy we thought we were trading for. It has been fun to watch him this season with how dominating he can be and his play at both ends of the ice has been very effective. He's like a new man. Good job, Rick, keep it up!

More like "took the night off."
Time for Hank to be given another night off. Why he started tonight is beyond me, considering his absolute shit play against Tampa Bay this season.
That's just awesome. /s

He has not been very good this year so far.
